  1. Never seen a pic of this one before. Wished I had. Absolutely stunning.
  2. Yep, if having the shifting done for you is your thing. 95% of 2.5 MJs/XJs came with AX4-AX5 manuals. The AW4 is probably more reliable than any of the manuals that were ever offered for any of the engines, particularly the AX-4 (early 2.5 manual) and BA-10/5 (early 4.0 manual) and if a 4.0 can't hurt an AW4, a 2.5 definitely can't.

Factory sun roofs are rare on MJs and I don't know of any aftermarket sunroof companies so I'd be willing to bet yours is factory. Back then Jeep let you pick whatever options you wanted without any restrictions. That's why you sometimes see weird option soups like your otherwise base model with a sun roof. Welcome to the family! The only stupid question is the one you don't ask. Helping eachother is why we're here. Oh, and feel free to post as many pics of your truck as you dare. Pics are always appreciated. Does the sticker happen to say SporTruck on it? If so, it's a pretty common cosmetic package for 87-90 and you're right, the Sport option was a late 91 through 92 thing. Reading this might be valuable to you if you haven't already: http://comancheclub.com/topic/13447-what-is-the-most-important-tip-youd-share-with-mj-owners/  I keep thinking of stuff to add.
  4. Yeah, the AW4 is fantastic. Earlier 4cyl autos got the TorqueFlite 3-speed which made it even more of a dog. Don't let it get too hot and it'll last dang near forever. And a 2.5/AW4 truck, especially with your options, represents maybe 1/100th of a percent of all the MJs out there.
  5. Great suggestions guys. One thing I'd like to point out is that this seems completely temp. related. I.e. it doesn't do it at all in the morning and takes a bit of driving in the afternoon for it to start.
  6. Recently, my truck has been making a weird sound from the very front, by the belt drive. It runs fine and the sound isn't noticeable when the engine is cold, but gets louder and louder as the engine warms up. When it first starts making this noise it almost sounds like a lifter tick but it turns into a sort of chattering or scraping noise. I'm 90% sure that this isn't coming from the bottom end or the valvetrain - I hear the normal sound of the engine through a screwdriver on the valve cover or head. I'm leaning towards the water pump, but I don't want to just throw parts and money at it. Shaky phone video of the noise: Since that video was taken, the serpentine belt and idler pulley have been replaced, with no real difference notable in the noise. Thanks for looking, and hopefully someone knows what this is. . :MJ 1: .
  7. This weekend among yardwork and other stuff I changed the serpentine belt and idler pulley, changed out the presumably 22 year old diff fluid (ack) painted the diff cover and discovered I have an LSD rear end. A noise that I think is the water pump persists but there's always next weekend.
  8. My mother's car is a 2004 Cadillac Seville. The amount of electrical stuff in that thing is beyond me even though I'm of the 'technological generation. I can't hear the engine unless I really give it some gas, the steering is too easy and feels disconnected, and everything is flimsy plastic, apparently including the window regulators. I feel like I could rip the bumper off with a good pull and don't even get me started on transverse motors. The power passenger side window and lock is pretty nice, though, and if I crashed I would probably appreciate the air bags.. Even though it packs 300 horsepower, driving it isn't really exciting like driving my truck is. Basically what I'm getting at is that some creature comforts are nice but new cars definitely take it too far IMO. Everything is so simple and reasonable in my MJ - that's why I like it. I feel like I could tear my mom's $50,000 when new car apart (don't get me started on the ridiculous depreciation either) with my bare hands but everything is solid and well made on my truck.
  9. Basically what I gather from this is that the XJ as we know it is impossible to recreate considering the way the industry works now. And 4200 pounds and 10% bigger than an XJ would make it more similar to a ZJ than an XJ anyway IMO. As much as I would like to see an XJ, part two, I don't really think it's possible. Shame. 2013 Jeep could learn a lot from 1986 Jeep methinks. I don't care about automatic parking or some other gizmo, Jeep means 'tough vehicle that looks like a box' to me.
  10. Steve, I sent you the email addy to send the invoice to several days ago and I haven't gotten it yet. Are you still running this?
  11. Try not to mess it up too bad, okay? :P Beautiful. More pics?
  12. Topped up the tranny with some fresh fluid. Shifts much smoother now!
  13. Once you get some of that crud out, you can't go wrong with running seafoam through it. I've never put it in my oil but it cleans through the cylinders and valves pretty well. I imagine the internals aren't very clean either.
  14. Also look for common misspellings like Commanche and Camanche (that's how it's spelled on my title :thwak: ). Some folks don't have an easy time with spelling. Anyway, if you can find one, about $3k will get you into a pretty good probably stock example. Good luck!
  15. Hey Steve, quick question. Will the price for visor recovering also stay the same on the waiting list?
  16. That's some nice work there Dirteatr.
  17. Yeah. If they ever make a pickup again it better not look anything like this. If they do and name it Comanche.... let's just say it won't be pretty.
  18. Hahahahaha. What the hell. Welcome to the club!
  19. But that's so stylish and the 'modern crowd' will love it!
  20. Yeah, it's surprising how much of a bond can be forged with a vehicle that you 'hate'. At least it's better than being Cash for Clunkered. I'm still mad about that. Still, it seems like the little truck lived its useful life even if it only was at 70k.
  21. Hey, I'm still interested in a headliner and visor recovering but won't be able to afford it this month. If you will honor the deal for the waiting list through March, count me in for a medium gray headliner and visors. I'll give you more info when I can. Thanks!
  22. I would keep looking at grounds if I were in your position. If one is bad, it's pretty likely that others are like that also. If your Comanche is a 90 model or earlier, the grounding isn't up to the same standard as the later models and it's a big liability. I would go through my wiring with a fine toothed comb and trace the wiring from the ignition like the others said.
  23. If nothing happens when you turn the key to the start position, the ignition switch is the logical answer. Check for wiring problems and make sure a ground isn't messed up before you start digging though.
  24. I've gotten numerous offers to sell my 'pristine Cherokee with a bed welded on'. I will not let my truck go for any less than $30,000 and on the condition that I would immediately buy it back for what it is actually worth. I haven't sold it yet for some reason. It's also pretty fun to count the number of people driving past that stare in awe at my truck.

Short answer, yes. You don't have to do anything except for the paperwork and background check, handguns or long guns. Carry permits are also pretty easy to get here if that's your thing (they're shall-issue). You can transport guns in vehicles as long as they're cased and in view unless you have a carry permit, in which case you can put them anywhere. Cities might have special ordinances, but that's how it is down here. There isn't any restrictions on magazine size or anything like that. Hopefully that's it.
