  1. Easiest Way? Check your title documents and registration. Use this VIN Decoder: Jeep VIN decoder It is in the DIY section. Your truck is an 89 4.0 One/TWO last things: Please put your location in you Profile. When you set up a signature, please list your truck's year, engine, etc so we all know what you have and what model you are speaking about. Thanks,
  2. I agree with the above. Better to buy a car/truck someone else has paid for a quality restoration than to pay for a quality restoration yourself. If you can find the car you would have ordered (or close) in original low miles condition. BUY IT, simply for your own satisfaction and because it is cheap in the long run. Restoring a car or truck is not cheap. Doing it properly is way, way more expensive than most think. As for those who think it is too much money or they would never have "blah, blah, blah". Simple, you are not in the market for this truck. So have a cup of coffee! BTW, I have at least 4 money pit cars/trucks. 2 are looking good, the other 2 are still sucking money.
  3. Would they fit with a 2 inch lift? I sure don't know. But, they are $60 for the pair. So IF "just in case" you go to a 2 inch lift - not much $$ to loose if you need to buy different shocks. You could also look at how the Monroe MA828 mounts. Uses "Loop Bushing& Sleeve Mount - 14M"\M Sleeve ID X 1.11/16" Sleeve OAL" mounting top and bottom compared to the MA820 which uses "Loop Bushing Mount - 5/8" Bushing ID X 1.5/16" Bushing OAL", top and bottom. The MA828 has an extra 1.5 inches of travel compared to the MA820. Got this info from the Monroe web site. No personal experience. If it were my choice, I would just buy the MA820 air shocks and call it good. If you need to put 2000+ pounds in the bed, put 150 psi in the shocks. My guess is you would be OK
  4. So what was the price you agreed to and he backed out of? One of the things to think about when buying an old car in great condition is: What would it cost now in today's dollars? I paid $20K for a 1969 Chevy Corvair Monza Convertible with 24,000 original miles on it. The car cost about $3050 when new in 1969. My first new house in 1973 cost 24K or 8 times the purchase price of the car. I simply could not buy that 1973 house for $212K today. The house cost would be over $400K. So when I think about the value of today's dollars - I understand that $20K is about half or less what the car would sell for if it was new today.
  5. How much weight capacity are you needing to add? Air shocks will let you add about 500 lbs of capacity when you need it and not kill your ride when you don't need it. Also do a good job of raising the back end of the truck when a trailer has pushed it way down. See post #10 in this thread for good information: http://comancheclub.com/topic/22263-looking-to-install-new-shockshelp/ Air Bags wil typically add a good 1000 lbs of capacity and cost a little bit more than shocks. They too are adjustable, so you don't give up a normal ride. Stronger leaf springs will - GENERALLY give you a harsher ride all the time. See this link: http://www.jcwhitney.com/timbren-ses-helper-springs/p3091516.jcwx?skuId=2338849&TID=gglpla&origin=pla&VSID=d50344y1992j1&92JeCoTimTBNJRC01&gclid=CPq_48zE1NACFUpNfgodulMPbQ
  6. Good news here is that nobody got hurt! Stuff happens. May this be the worst thing that happens to you!
  7. My truck used to belong to a drywaller. He had 2 additional overload springs installed on the factory BigTon/MetricTon package for a total of 7 leafs on each side. Plus he added air shocks on the back. I still have the 2 extra overloads on each side. I have put 3200 lbs in the bed and not bottomed out.
  8. Is it just my eyes? I count 4 leafs and 2 helper/overloads Total 6 leafs?
  9. All other things being equal, as the saying goes. A longer wheel base will give you a more comfortable ride. Also, if you are towing, the long wheelbase is safer (Guess why no factory MetricTon/BigTon package on the short bed). But as Pete said: Lots more things contribute to a smooth ride more than 6 more inches in the wheelbase. Especially with 25/30 year old trucks.
  10. "RC N2.0"? Must be more to the brand name than that?
  11. I was in Costco Monday, noticed a 4K Vizeo and a Samsung 60" for about $600 or so. Buy it at Costco - get a 2 year warranty, use your Costco Citi Bank Visa card to pay for it and you get an extra 2 years of protection from Citi Bank. Personally, I am fine with my 46 inch Panasonic and 47 inch Sony TVs. Not much worth watching anyway. Well there's not a Costco anywhere around me I don't think, and don't tell my woman that the 50" is good enough because that's what she's been saying all along top Sent from my SM-G930P using Tapatalk Check Sam'sClub for price. I am not a WalMart fan, but they do sell stuff cheap, problem is much of the time - they sell cheap stuff and cheap stuff is no bargain.
  12. Yes, Cherokee visor is different from the Comanche visor. Don has posted the part number for the correct Comanche visor.

  14. You are quite a glutten for punishment! 4 different projects! Best words of advice I can give you: Pick the easiest, quickest to complete project first. You will feel much better about tackeling the other 3 projects after you finish the first one. Bonus: The wife will be much more supportive on the second, third and fourth projects after you finish the first one!!
  15. Done! How does the first line look?
  16. The Cuda should look great with the new paint. Looking forward to seeing the finished paint job. Mind if I ask more about the paint job? What paint system/type are you using? Single stage/two stage with clear? Paint brand? And of course, How much $$ for the paint job and the prep? I have an older car I will be painting in the next year with something other than Macco. So trying to collect information. Thanks,
  17. You are talking about the GM "Atlas" engines:, Peter Lechtanski "Worlds Fastest Comanche" had a yahoo group about these engines in a Jeep. As I recall, the Atlas engines are a couple of inches taller than the 4.0 and the 5 cylinder, 3500 version should fit very well in the Comanche engine bay. The 4200 6 cylinders may also fit, this engine puts out about 270 hp with a very wide torque curve. Should also be considerably lighter than the 4.0 I would expect this engine conversion to cost a considerable amount of effort, but with the entire Trailblazer to start with, you have all the parts.
  18. Current bid $5600 with 2 days to go. Looks like 4 different bidders at or above $5K. Reserve still not met.
  19. Great feedback! I have used Discount Tire for many years. Earlier this year I dropped the Comanche off at Discount to have a slow leak in one of the tires repaired. When I went back to pick up the truck, I was told the tire had been damaged during the repair process. So Discount simply replaced the the tire with a new one at no cost. Never expected that and offered to pay for half the tire - my tire was half way thru its life. Ii looks like I will need a pair of tires soon, so I'll take a close look at these Cooper tires. BTW, I am a long time Michelin user also.
  20. Pete, I don't know anything about wood burning stoves. Here in Southern California a fireplace is just a decoration we use strictly for looks. Then they mostly are gas fired with fake wood logs or Presto type composite logs for a bit more reality. BUT if you want to heat a small sun room/sun porch - take a hard look at a quartz type electric heater. Sure, I know it is no fun. But it might make a whole bunch of economic sense - not to mention 10 times easier to install.
  21. I think even the major auto companies are sourcing a bunch of their older parts from China. Unfortunately, I don't think the quality assurance standards are the same as the parts that go into new production 2016 and 2017 cars. Replacement parts are just another profit center watched over by bean counters only. That means C.R.A.P. with OEM Mopar name tags. Good catch on Ebay! and a nice write up. Moving the coil away from the block was a smart idea. My 1969 Corvair had the coil positioned away from the engine block from the factory as the smog equipment increased engine operating temperatures from 1966 to 1968/9
  22. Take your radio out, then you might be able to see to get the latch unscrewed or pushed free. Might want to take a look at a Cherokee in the Pick a Part yard.
  23. I towed the Diesel MJ from Vancouver Island to Michigan with my 91 MJ just before I picked up the Wildernest from you. So I speak from experience. And my 91 Comanche has all the correct factory installed equipment to meet the 5000 max tow rating. Bottom line, you do not want to use an MJ as your tow rig, to tow another MJ on a car trailer. Be smart, get a properly equipped, half or 3/4 ton pickup. The Comanche brakes and cooling system are not up to the task, period. Sure you can get away with it for a while. But they are just no match for a half or 3/4 ton pickup.
  24. The seller of the 91 has done a much better job of presenting his Comanche than the seller of the 92 Comanche and it is reflected in the number of bids placed. IMHO, the 92 will not sell at all. Price is too high for both the truck and for the wheels. Very similar to the 92 in Canada asking $9700 U.S. Both fishermen looking for the big one with not real great presentation. The 91 likely will get close to $5K. Key factor here: I am not in the market.
