  1. Some of these JY guys think every junker they have is a gold mine and every part is a big nugget. There's one in No. AL that has several MJs. I went there looking for a tailgate and the guy wanted $100 for a beat up gate not much better than mine and $175 for one w/o rust but with several dents. Picked up a straight, rust-free gate from another CC member for $80, and a pair of XJ buckets w/sliders for about $50 and a console under $20 from local P&P. Look for a P&P in your area. You'll have to pull the parts yourself, but that gives you control over what parts you get and assures they won't be damaged in the removal process (and you can get all the nuts and bolts).
  2. This is the last straw as far as being on Facebook is concerned for me. I only got on the thing at the insistence of my daughters and grandkids. Hmmm, I believe I'll make my final post on FB a concise edition of this policy and then delete everything i can find that is related to me. Never used Instagram but if FB will do it there they'll do it on FB also.
  3. There was another post on CL for this truck at $4500 looking for trade. Had one less photo. I'll take another look for it.
  4. There''s a good looking one on CL Birmingham (Leeds, AL) for about $4500. I could almost see myself paying $4500 for that one if all my money wasn't invested in stuff like food and shelter.
  5. Edit previous post - Alexia is building a beast MJ - not Alexis. Sorry about that, Alexia.
  6. I've seen 3 in the Birmingham area, plus mine. Hornbrod has a beauty in No. AL. Sounds like Alexis is building a beast, also No. AL. RockinMJ has at least one. There is a really good looking one in Leeds, AL on CL for $4500 , looks like it might be worth it. Probably have seen another 6 to 8 on CL in the past year.
  7. Nice truck doesn't start to describe it. Unfortunately, you missed all the "fun" in building it your self - LOL. Welcome to the club!
  8. Skiddo_j - thanks for posting the link. I've been wondering about back spacing and that also answers some questions I didn't know I had!
  9. And, as Skidoo_j said, maybe the turn stops need adjustment since it seems to be worse in one direction than the other.
  10. May just be the steering geometry. I think there should be a slight difference in the angle of the inside and outside wheels to the thrust centerline in a turn, due to the greater turn radius of the outside wheel. The difference would be gmore noticeable as the turn radius decreased (as the whells are turned further toward the stops) and it's probably difficult to get the geometry perfect, specially so with a solid axles. I've noticed a slight tendency for this in my '05 Silverado and seem to remember it being more noticeable on the two Cherokees I've had. I usually hear a little tire squeal or scrubbing from the outside tire when I'm making a tight turn in an enclosed area (like a parking deck or garage) and sometimes a small hop. It could be made worse by misalignment
  11. I got on it solely at the urging of my two adult daughters. I check it religiously, roughly once every three months or so. Should just delete it. Maybe it's a form of paranoia, but Google is really starting to creep me out, too. Remember, you're not paranoid if they really are out to get you!
  12. Cletus - if I have to go that far, it will be to Vegas. Your avatar would be one of the reasons. Us ole southern boys and snow don't go together very well LOL. But, thanks for the offer!
  13. Congratulations and thank you for 19 years of service to our country. The Few, The Proud, The Marines!
  14. "Ambulance chasing maggots" - I think I've found my long lost brother!
  15. Thanks for the info on Complete Auto. I may just take a ride up that way soon. I don't use an E-reader (yet). Probably should because I enjoy reading. I'm curious about the title selections available and I need to go on Amazon and B&N sites and see what's out there. Granddaughter specifically asked for the Nook so I didn't do any research on E-readers
  16. Don, Consumer Reports 2013 Buying Guide rates Nook Simple Touch with with Glowlight No.1, followed by Nook Simple Touch, Kindle Keyboard 3G, Kindle Keyboard 3G with Special Offers (ads?), Nook Color, and then more Kindles of various types. We bought our granddaughter the Nook Glowlight. She reads a lot and enjoys it. Had not heard about B&N divesting Nook. BTW - RTR! You wouldn't happen to know anyone around AL with a decent, reasonably priced tailgate for sale, would you?
  17. And, rust free is a good thing!
  18. Regardless of the condition, by the time a freight line got it here from Vegas it would be totally trashed. We get shipments in with 4x4 skids torn apart, holes punched by fork lift forks, etc. Thanks for the info. You know, if I came to Vegas and could fit one into a suitcase, hmmmm.
  19. Need a tail gate in good condition. Color unimportant. Located in central Alabama, willing to drive a reasonable distance for a good one. 12/17/12 - FOUND A GOOD ONE, No longer in the market!
  20. If you haven't found a manifold yet try Jackson & Sons Jeep in Talladega, AL. NOS OEM parts. Paid about $125 for a new manifold. Try to Google him and if you can't find it I'll try to find his card and send you his number. PM me if you need it.
  21. I got the OEM inner shift boot from the local Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep dealer for around $36. I'll check the receipt for the part no. If you need it.
  22. Looks like whoever got the headliner took the clips for the visors. I would grab the B pillar lights for sure.
  23. Here's what i think he is saying, with my assumptions noted in parentheses: He just finished replacing a water pump on a MJ with a 4.0L engine. The water pump was not noisy or leaking but the engine was overheating. "The apparent problem is wear on the impeller blades. On the inner side of the impeller blades (the blade edge that faces the housing of the water pump), the outer 1/3 of the blade length is worn so that the clearance in that area is approximately four times the clearance between the inner 2/3 of the blades and the water pump housing." This wear will reduce the pumps ability to circulate water and increase the potential for overheating. Watch out for this problem if you are experiencing overheating.
  24. Speedo cable - Jackson & Sons Jeep Parts -Talladega, AL - lots of NOS, reasonable pricing.
  25. I got the OEM boot for the 88 MJ for about $35. Same dealer, just ordered it through our company service department. Haven't installed it yet, had to pull the dash to change the heater core - found antifreeze on my newly sealed and primered passenger side floor. I've come to the realization that if it ain't broke, just wait and it will. Jeep Empty Every Pocket!
