Comanche Country - preach on, brother! There's always the slight possibility one of them may saved by hearing the truth! And, as Flint54 said, sorry 'bout the thread jack, never happen again (lie), mea culpa, putting on sackcloth and ashes, etc.

I found the top clamp/brace at P&P, the rods were still in my MJ when I bought it. I have sandblasted the clamp to remove what was left of the old rubber covering and plan to dip it in the liquid rubber stuff they sell to coat tool handles. If you can find one you'll probably have to do the same as they all corrode under the rubber. The threaded rods are almost always on the trucks at the JY, but since they remove the batteries the top parts are usually missing. You can also get the rods from Advance Auto, Autozone, O'Reillys, etc. Same stores also sell universal battery hold down kits.

Did you use the whole BA-10 shifter or just the upper part? It looks like they all have the same square shank on the lower part.

It doesn't just pull off. You can't get a standard socket on the adapter bolt. I used a combination box end/open end wrench (5/8" IIRC) with the box end on the bolt and another box end hooked into the open end as a cheater. Get as long a cheater as you can get under the truck and push and pull with all you got. It might come loose without foul language, but I doubt it. Should be a fairly recent thread on this as I just did mine about a month ago. If I can find it I'll post a link to it. The other problem is finding all three of the o-rings. There are two under the adapter and one on the bolt. That's addressed in the same thread.

I wish I had known about the motor mount/oil filter adapter issue before I changed the o-rings. Could have checked the mounts and done them at the same time.

Contact fiatslug on this forum. He has some of these periodically. I picked one up at the local P&P. As Hornbrod's photo shows, it's tucked up behind the lower dash, may have one screw holding it (can't remember - may be Velcro'd or taped in place). I'll connect mine when I get the &@#€ truck back together and have all of the electrical demons slain.

External Fuel Pump Install
Keyav8r replied to Disturbed's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Well said, Garvin! That last sentence says it all. It's Disturbed's truck and he can put a jet turbine in it, paint it purple with green polka dots and it's his business and none of mine. I might personally prefer yellow polka dots, but it ain't my truck. -
Mine was originally "The Ugly Wife" because that's what my bride called it. I've since re-named it "Blood, Sweat and Tears". Blood because of all the skinned knuckles and cuts. Sweat - well that's obvious if you own a Comanche. And Tears for the times you just want to cry out of frustration when you've fixed that darned widget five times and it still doesn't work right. We all must be masochists!

Put a hex wrench in the plastic plug in the bung on my radiator and it came out smoothly. Unscrewed the fan switch from the fitting that had been spliced into the lower radiator hose and it screwed right into bung. Don't know why the PO didn't do that. Now I can put it back together the way Jeep intended (after I change the heater core). I took photos of the heater hose arrangement so I may actually be able to put it back together right.

Will the bell housing, etc work with my BA-10? I'll probably go back for those parts and the crossmember on the chance I may find an AX-15 somewhere down the road. Jim - I totally agree with your description of these JY rats. By the way, did you return the bus or just leave it on the side of the road after wiping off you fingerprints?
-
Thanks to all. Will be asking for a set in my letter to Santa.

If the only thing you moved was the injector harness, go back and check all the electrical connections to the injectors. Our trucks are old and the wiring can become brittle where it's exposed to heat, oil and fuel. I'd re-check all of the vacuum hoses, too. Black smoke -too much fuel?

Yes -we know we should be in the Pub, but it is Bama stuff!

Nick's headed there to talk to her parents. Not sure she can sign a letter of intent yet.

Gotta vent. Went by P&P today to check on new arrivals. XJ with AX-15 - some moron pulled the trans just to take the shifter. Looks like he did it with a hammer and chisel, left the crossmember hanging by one bent bolt. Even tore up the shifter boot instead of taking it off. I really could have used the whole thing - external slave!

Thanks for the feedback. Do they stay in place pretty well? The Weathertechs in my Silverado tend to slide around. Noticed the shuttle in your avatar. Do you or did you work at the Cape? We repaired a freeze protection pump for them just before the shutdown.

Junkyard Bench Seat Replacement
Keyav8r replied to redjeepracer's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Where are you located? I have the bench I took out of my '88 MJ and you are welcome to it if you're close enough to make it worthwhile. The brackets are missing, but you can use the ones on your existing bench. One of the admins will probably recommend that you edit your profile to show your location under your avatar photo (or lack thereof, as I haven't posted an avatar either) and to add info on your vehicle(s) in your signature. With that information included in your posts you won' have to answer questions like "Where are you located". -
Is anyone using the Quadratec '84 through '01 Cherokee front floor liners in their MJ? How do they fit over carpet? Weather tech doesn't show liners for Cherokees (or MJs). Husky shows them for Cherokee front floors. Anyone using the Huskys and how do they fit?

Took about an hour. For some reason the I to O line was about seventeen times longer than the rest and also moved slower. Jim - unfortunately J.D. is dead or I would have written him in. Don - I ain't very smart, but I think I'm smart enough to figure that one out. Sir Sam - you need to copyright that sign before everybody else copies it. I already have. Relyt120 - you may be right. I've heard that its impolite to talk about politicians or prostitutes - darn, I'm being redundant again.

Thank you, sir. You are indeed a scholar and a gentleman!

I just took mine off to replace the boot, too. Put the lower part in the vise and used a short piece of 1" x 1" pine trim and a ball peen hammer. Surprised the heck out of me how easily it came off. I expected to have beat the crap out of it. Now to get it back together after I get the boot on the lower part.

Pulled My Carpet Out Today
Keyav8r replied to Southpaw26's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Your floors look almost production line perfect compared to what mine used to look like. I haven't used Por-15 but guys I know who have say you can just about lay newspaper over the holes and coat it to seal the floor. Newspaper may be an exaggeration, but I would think fiberglass cloth would work. You'll probably get several recommendations from forum members who swear by it. -
