Well, OK, you can't get a classic tag if you don't have a classic truck, either. Yes, every year. Same with vanity tags as well as specialty tags.......TN has over 100 different specialty tags available. We had specialty tags when we first moved here, those were about $100 annually also.

On insurance and antique tags- You can, at least in FL and TN and I suspect most SE states, register an antique tag without insuring as an antique or classic, one really has nothing to do with the other. The reason you'll want to insure as a classic is value. I suspect if your truck is stolen or totaled most insurance companies will total you out under $2500, probably closer to $1600. For those who restore or resto-mod classics, you will easily invest 10s of thousands of dollars, that's why insurance companies will appraise your truck. If you think the antique tags are restrictive wait till you read your insurance policy, you will be told how and where you will store your truck, how and when you may use it, whether it can be driven or must be trailered, restrictions on mileage.....etc...you'll even have to get a writer for an 'unattended' truck at an event. My new wheels will be here tomorrow, I'll have more invested in wheels and tires than the truck is worth.......hell......I have more invested in my steering column than most of you payed for your entire truck. One of the things I'll have to look into is insuring my truck some other way, an umbrella policy under my homeowners insurance or.....? IDK, I'll have to look into it, just to insure the value of property in addition to auto insurance. I'm with Erie Insurance and they do write for antiques, I've called and asked but did not take it further, they wanted to order an appraisal......that would be embarrassing at this point, maybe when finished. As for personalized tags, I've had those in FL, AAMEMBR on my truck and ISOBER2 on my bike. I can be rather creative when I want to be and I have some ideas for my MJ.......we'll see when the time comes. Here my tags are $24 per year, personalized are just over $100 IIRC.......in FL it was about $250 for both tags, fun in the beginning but writing that check will wear the fun off quickly.

I'm another one who doesn't want the useless clutter consuming volume in my tank. I'll have one built when I transplant the V8. -
Turbine Rim Center Cap Restoration - Tips?
Jeep Driver replied to NEO auto's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I thought you already did this some time ago? My concern with compounds is getting it into the plastics........you'll never get it out. Someone mentioned Never Dull............this is one of the few times it might be worth using. -
Check around construction sites, you will find LVL drops. Couple of pieces say 16x16 stacked will gain you another 3+ inches. LVL material is more than acceptable for cribbing/dunnage/padding under a well made jack stand.

I grease my threads, always have. I don't use a torque wrench, never will.

Antique vehicles are appraised, not inspected. In TN for example,. antique tags are a single fee tag, that's why the restrictions. In TN the tag can be taken from you if you violate the restrictions in which case you reapply for a new standard tag.......not a big deal. You don't need to, but you can, use the year of manufacture tag or you can get a plain 'antique' tag. I thought about it......eh......ain't worth it. Rather pretentious anyway.

Since you asked for thoughts............ My cordless tools are for construction. My mechanic's tools are for automotive. I never mix the two. I cannot go into someone's home and install a kitchen with dirty tools. I have an electric impact, Matco, good but........eh........dust collector. I have two Craftsman impacts, one is worthless, the other I've had for more than 20 years, old school, has been my go-to, good impact, handles everything OK. Years ago I borrowed my late uncles IR impact, I've always wanted one but since I had a good one........why spend the $200? right? Three weeks ago I was in a TSC which was swapping out displays and had one on discount, I talked it down another $10. Last week I had a chance to use it to remove the bed and related parts from my truck. Unsure of just how much torque.....I ever so lightly throttled the trigger.........effortlessly busted every nut/bolt, like it was nothing. It's not just torque that matters. Yeah I know, tethered to a compressor, but if you want a real impact? IR.

I don't do social sites.....being that I'm anti-social and all......

I always find these questions rather curious. Maybe one of you can point to well thought out and properly executed LS swap for the MJ/XJ because I've seen one or two but not many. I have seen a lot of hackery though.

Did you get the shifter?
-
For the very same reason you have a cover over your steering wheel..........those parts gum up over time. I have no idea how you guys are dealing with that, especially if you are painting over the gum. I tried cleaning to no avail. Mine went the way of........well........they just went away.

Dana 44 axle off center
Jeep Driver replied to 808Manche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I had the same problem. Your springs and shackles are worn out, has nothing to do with the axle itself. I highly recommend the military wrap spring from General Spring, made in USA. Now you are going to find out just how worn out your front springs are too. -
Yeah, I wish I had my 15 seconds back. And you don't need to be a veteran to know better. But then, I'm an AK guy.

Shortbed MJ fuel tank swap?
Jeep Driver replied to idahoeagle's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yeah. I stayed out of this mess for a reason. -
I was going to post on that but..........good that you are aware. Yes, cordless saws, including the circular saws, eat batteries like no tomorrow. My DeWalt does well but I use it judiciously and I have plenty of batteries. Many of my DeWalt batteries are more than 3 years old and still running fine, for that reason alone I'm partial to DeWalt. Batteries are expensive, cost more than the tool in many cases. I'd buy the Hitachi before the Porter Cable.
-
This subject came up before- buying into a platform, you have, now you feel stuck there. Hitachi is now Metabo HPT, what that will mean for quality? IDK. Hitachi pneumatics are good, real good, I have a couple of guns and if I moved completely away from Bostitch I'd buy all Hitachi. I have a couple of other Hitachi pieces as well. I'd never buy into their cordless tools, but that's just me. I suspect their cordless reciprocating cordless saw is as good as any, you'll be fine.

Yeah, I watched that earlier, he does good reviews. Nope, ain't gonna grow on me. Loaded with gimmicks.

Yes it's nice. It's worth what someone is willing pay you for it. Non-AC truck............so, that hurts value. $8K.....?..........eh...........you'll be waiting a long time. $5200 to $5800........maybe. $4800 to sell.
