  1. Wasn't too difficult. You need a steering wheel puller. I used one through PepBoys. You have to get under the dash and move some things off the column.
  2. Mythoughts originally...but all the wires run through that switch. Remember, when you activate your turn signal, it overides the brake light.
  3. Similar thing happened to me. I changed the turn signal switch in the steering column. That fixed it.
  4. See the attached link. http://comancheclub.com/topic/12083-electrical-manual/ It's the electric diagram for an 88. I have it download on my computer. What yr and engine is your MJ?
  5. You say you have a 91. That's a Chrysler HO. Mine is an 87 Renix. Will the sending unit wiring match?
  6. :hijack: I need a new fuel pump etal. I am replacing the tank on my 87 Larado. The guy at the body shop tells me that NAPA has pump in stock. However, from the other members here, most of these over-the-counter pumps won't fit the 23 gal tank. Is the body shop guy correct? Will these pumps fit? I checked on-line with Advances Auto and read the prod reviews. They all said the same thing: pump did not fit. (Airtex Elect. #E7006, Bosch #69302, Denso #950-3024). Advise?
  7. Not all of the wiring in the linked file is the same for the 87. The wire connectors changed from 87 to 88. Not all but some behind the dash.
  8. Here's what mine looked like. The cable runs on the left side of the picture - top to bottom - through the floor reinforcement. The truck is at a body shop to fix the floor and a paint job.
  9. Not too hard. It just takes some musle to pull out the old and fish throught new.
  10. Then you should start in the cab. Remove the driver's seat and pull up the carpet. Inspect the cable for crimps or breaks. I replace my main cable last year. Got it NAPA. It was in stock in the store!
  11. Was the parking brake pushed on or was it released? While you are down looking at the cables, have someone pushing the pedal in and release it several time. Examine how the cables move. That will help identify where to start your search.
  12. Ok, here ya go. For the wire harnesses, the first is C178 - Headlight Display Module (optional) The second is the C253 - cruise control module The last is the C355 - Emission maintenance timer. http://comancheclub.com/topic/12083-electrical-manual/ If you have not already downloaded this, I recommend you download and save it.
  13. My MJ is currently in the body shop getting restored. The tech told me the tank is leaking. After discussing options, I am looking at replacing it with a new (23.5 gal). Rockauto list two brands - Dorman and Spectra. Besides a $20 price dif, does anyone have knowledge/experience with either brand? Do you know if one is better than the other? I am not interested in getting a used tank, since any used tank is also 20 + yrs old. Additionally, the tech recommended tank straps. A Jeep parts cataloge list different straps for tanks w/ and w/o skid plates. My MJ has a skid plate. The Dorman and Spectra strap part numbers seem to match the parts "w/o skid plates." Will the "w/o straps" fit on my tank with the skid plate? Can the straps be modified to fit? (The old straps have not come off yet to determine their condition.)
  14. My 87 has it on the left. It rolled on the line in May 87, though.
  15. Been there, done that, they never gave me credit for the returned part. I pick up one from the local Jeep dealer. The part is from a TJ. It was a perfect fit. This was on ebay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/OEM-Jeep-Wrangler-TJ-Manual-Transmission-Inner-Shift-Boot-97-04-Shifter-tear-/221198231609?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Make%3AJeep%7CModel%3AWrangler&hash=item3380712839&vxp=mtr
  16. As my name indicates, I work in one of life's certanties. No, I am not a mortician. I'm a self (un)employed CPA. I have been practicing for 25 yrs. (maybe one day I will get it right.) ;)
  17. Clogged cat convert?
  18. Light switch! All those, and then some, run through it.
  19. Is this a great forum or what. We have members that speak French and..and...and what language is this? :???: ;)
  20. That's a beautiful truck. You should buy it. Check under the carpets. Can you post the VIN?
  21. If you put that number in excel and convert to a date, you get June 16, 2196. I don't think that was it. :shake:
  22. Imperial gallons vs. US gallons?
  23. Some people on CC have said to check the valve cover for the leaks.
  24. My 87 has a different harness from the '88. Can't speak about '86. I have the electical service manuals for both '87 and '88 and the radio wirings is different.
