Were Can I Get A Center Console?
87MJTIM replied to Comanchecatcher's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
What colour? I was pulling parts off a 90 XJ that has a light blue/gray interior. However, it did have the hand brake, not pedal. The top portion was cracked, in front of the stick, though. -
:hijack: Is a speedo cable the same between an '87 MJ and a '90 XJ - both with NP231 tcase? My speedo makes grinding noises and will jump up to 50 mph in 2nd gear, especially when its cold outside.

I married into mine. I graduated college in 86. The following summer (87) I was looking for a new vehicle (my Datsun B210 lost the exhaust system). At that time I really liked two vehicles: Mustangs and CJs. That was the year Jeep changed to the YJ. I really didn't like the look of it. (As a matter of fact, compared with the CJ, YJ, TJ and JK, it ranks only slightly higher the the JK). So, I got the Mustang 5.0 GT. That car could pass everything on the road...except a gas station. My (then) girlfriend bought an 87 Laredo, fully loaded a month after I got the 'stang. Three years after marriage, we sold the Mustang and bought a 91 XJ with the 4.0 HO. She got the XJ and I took over the MJ. The MJ was my DD until 98 when I bought a new TJ. The MJ was religated to a weekend and hardward store trip vehicle. The XJ was traded for a '00 Dodge Durango (not my favorate), then a Chevy Silverado (my least favorate), then on to an '03 Suburban 8 liter (somewhere in between the Durango and Silverado). We use them for towing a 34' travel trailer. When our daughter came along in '00, the wife said the TJ was not "child friendly." So, the TJ was traded in for a used Subaru Outback (a really nice car). When the Subaru blew the head gasket, we bought an '05 Honda CRV (another nice car). With her driving the CRV, I was driving the Durango/Chevy/Chevy and hated it. I then started driving the MJ more often and remembered how much I LOVE that truck. In the approximate 10 yrs it was not driven much, it started to show its age. Some years, I only filled the gas tank twice! In '09, I made in DD once again. I decided that I will show the MJ the love it deserves. It is getting restored to its original condition. I expect it to last an additional 25 years. PS - I am looking on ebay and craigslist for a CJ7.

Yes, the BA10 is the Peugeot. AMC put this in the 87, 88 and part of 89 with the 4.0 engines. There were complaints about the trans and not liked by Jeep owners. Halfway throught 89, Jeep (now Chrysler) switched the the AX15 for the 4.0. This trans, by many Jeep owners, is considered better and more desirable. I currently plan on keeping my BA10 and have the AX15 as a spare if I ever need to replace the BA10.
-
I have the BA 10 and it has been reliable (so far) with 261,000. I like to have spare parts just in case. ...of course, everything ha$ a price...
-
I guess when I go back I will get the sending units. I was trying to pull the fuse block, but had to focus on the trans/transfer because of time.
-
I currently have a full gauge. So, I don't need to get the two senders. I just thought having another gauge was a good for a spare. I will go back and get more parts soon.
-
I finally was able to get the AX15 and transfer case from a 90 XJ I've eyeing for some time. I pulled the cross member and other misc parts - including a full gauge cluster. After reading other threads in the Tech section, I may need to go back and pull the trans case shift linkage.

Cranks But won't Turn Over
87MJTIM replied to redwolf624's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Crank Position Sensor. It mount on to the top of the trans bell housing. It scans the flywheel for the position of the engine crank. It tells the engine lots of important info, like when to send a spark to the plugs. I ve had to replace two through the years. Looks like http://www.ebay.com/itm/SMP-STANDARD-PC87T-Crankshaft-Position-Sensor-Distributor-Pick-Up-Assy-/271236282803?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Year%3A1987%7CMake%3AJeep%7CModel%3ACherokee&hash=item3f26f139b3&vxp=mtr#ht_1136wt_930 -

I did not know they came with a v6. I remember the v6 was an '86 option only . Was the engine changed? -

From what I have read, the shorty was intro'd in '87. See http://www.comanchemj.1hwy.com/photo6.html about 1/2 way down page

I thought the '86 were only the long beds. The short beds were not introduced until '87. The OP says he has an '86.
