What Do You Say to "You should Sell the Jeeps"
speeding_infraction replied to Drahcir495's topic in The Pub
Another example of new cars ≠ reliability... Couple months ago my dad calls me and says his jeep won't start. It's a 2023 grand Cherokee with the 5.7. dead battery. It had about 15k miles on it at that point. Course, we had to take it to the dealer to replace the battery because you can't even see the battery when you open the hood. When I got there to jump it the car was so dead that the power locks didn't even work. Otoh, in my ~4 years of driving various vehicles that range from 1989 to 2004, I've only been left at the side of the road twice - once because I ran out of gas and once because the fuel pump died on my jeep. Both easy fixes that I could do. Different story on the new stuff. -
Is that taken from East of Seattle? Assuming that's mt Rainier?

Couple of questions: 1. did you choose the DBW set up or were you forced into it because of engine/ECU choice? 2. Would you rather a DBW or DBC throttle set up? 3. Why not mount the oil cooler on the frame, closer to the oil pan?

That thing sounds wonderful. Assuming you have a build thread for it somewhere? -

Let's see a picture of the whole thing please -
This is the one we use. I keep the 5 quart bottles that I buy and when I have an empty one I use a big funnel and pour slowly. Also, the lid can come all the way off and it makes it a lot easier to empty that drain pan without that lid on it. https://www.autozone.com/shop-and-garage-tools/oil-drain-pan/p/flotool-drain-pan-16-quart/700706_0_0 Never had any issues with it breaking.

The last picture of it I'll take. Sold my truck today. Bittersweet, but I will buy another Comanche someday. It was also my first vehicle. I am sure I will miss it, but as I said, I will 100% buy another one at some point. I also told the new owner to join the forums

I have used a hammer and a big flathead screwdriver with light taps. Just be careful and take it slow

That truck is featured on the https://www.hazardbuildz.com/ website. Not sure of any details sadly

Trans in neutral when you try and turn the engine over?

First thing I would do is drain the oil and check the filter and see what's in it. I'm assuming you changed the oil filter as well? And be careful of the harmonic balancer bolt/threads if you try and get it spinning.

Harmonic balancer replacement
speeding_infraction replied to Car Enthusiast's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Got it installed and the ticking is gone that's been bothering me for a while. Now i just have to find a vacuum leak that I've been chasing on and off for about a year. -

What size bolts do I need to thread into the balancer to pull it? Nothing I have seems to fit. -

Yep. I am not planning on driving it, just testing an idea I had. -

yep that's what I was wondering. If the timing cover was held in place and centered by the harmonic balancer or if it had its own bolts to secure it to the block. Which it does, so you answered my question thanks -

So there is separate hardware for the timing cover? -

Would it be okay to run the engine for a couple minutes with no belt to test the balancer? Or would it need to have belt tension on it. -

What would a bad harmonic balancer sound like? I just replaced a pulley with a bad bearing because the front of my truck was ticking quite loudly, but that didn't fix it. Would this be the balancer ticking? The sound increases with speed, and I've never replaced the balancer. -
I like to imagine that he is in a place where every RENIX jeep is grounded properly and has no vacuum leaks. RIP.

@Pete Mcould we get a magnet or sticker made of his profile picture? For RENIX owners only
