  1. This was a 2019 Jeep, a rental, I think it had about 4000 miles on it...but it will not happen again because I am going to keep on driving my 1989 Comanche that has never experienced the Death Wobble The last time I remember experiencing this was in a 31 Chev coupe, we called it a shimmy and it would happen every time we crossed a set of railroad tracks
  2. The wife and I flew out to Tacoma to visit Granddaughters. Every time we make the trip we try to see different parts of the country. This time we decided to fly into Reno and drive over to Lake Tahoe. So, I rented, you guessed it, a Jeep JK. Beautiful county, we really enjoyed the drive but leaving Reno going down the freeway at about 65 mph all at once we got the dreaded Death Wobble. My wife was driving and it scared the crap out of her. She slowed down and it stopped. Finally we got to a place that we could pull over. I checked the front tires, everything looked good. Then she said the adjustment handle for the steering wheel was not locked down tight. That must have been it because it never happened again. She was ready to take the Jeep back to the rental facility but I talked her out of that. I don't know why the steering wheel adjustment handle not being tight would cause that but I can think of no other reason.

    Tool Talk

Impressive looking socket sets. But I am a retired professional aircraft mechanic and have been turning wrenches for over fifty years. You may use tools made in Taiwan or Japan which I have found to be inferior but, I would never purchase them for my own use.

    Florida bound

I don't envy you making that long drive. I use to do that when I was a lot younger, can't sit that long and straighten up. We go down to St. Simons Island about once a year, wife use to live there. In fact we are going down in a couple of weeks. Exit #38 over to US 17 then left onto the causeway. Southern Soul BBQ in the middle of the island, the best BBQ you will find anywhere , also The Crab Shack just above the village, good shrimp, fish and of course deviled crab. There is a Holiday Inn Express on the island good place to stay, free breakfast. Going off the island take US 17 south across the big bridge to I95. You will enjoy the stop over.

  13. Welcome! You are correct the comanche's are very rare., even in the USA. I rarely see one on the road where I live. But, I have owned mine for 30 years and drive it almost every day. You will enjoy your too. You bought yours in the USA, what state in the USA?

  16. So, is this a local find?
  17. Wow, those seats look great, it costs me $700 to get mine looking that good. You have really found a jewel.
  18. I like it. What part of the country is the truck from?
  19. I have the same problem, occasionally I turn the switch and nothing. I figure the switch has a worn spot on it after thousands of cycles. So, I put at remote starter button under the hood thinking I would replace the switch when I had a chance. That was a couple of years ago. I'm procrastinating because it is not easy to get to and at 76 years old , I don't enjoy standing on my head.
  20. My MJ does the exact thing. Started a couple of years ago. I just put a remote start button under the hood wired directly to the starter solenoid. I think either the switch or the mech. at the bottom of the column is worn out. After thousands of off/on uses there has to be a lot of wear. I just keep putting off fixing it.
  21. The seal comes attached to the windshield from the mfg. They installed to windshield with the seal attached. They laid down a good size bead of sealant around the frame then laid the windshield in place. The sealant drys very quickly. Does not leak and water doesn't get behind the seal. The mirror mount comes with the windshield and does not fit the 89 mirror. My old metal trim was starting to rust and water was getting behind it. This solved that problem. I had a 99 XJ at that time and I was looking at it's windshield and thought why not, same size.
  22. This is what it looks like installed. This is a 99 XJ windshield w/rubber seal attached. I had it installed several years ago and it was less than $200.
  23. I have a 89 MJ automatic w/floor shifter no PRNDL display in the cluster.
