Mnkyboys 89 Comanche project
89 MJ replied to mnkyboy's topic in MJ Hardcore Tech: Epic Journeys to Greatness
Multiple questions Were you happy with this lift for driving on the road? Also, do you remember if this lift kept the stock load capacity (or increased it)? Do you know if they still make this kit? Thanks Any updates with the head gasket?- 798 replies

My MJ currently has the engine out, so the front end was up a little bit from that, but when we removed my front shocks, we noticed that they were maxed out height wise. I have about 3 inches of lift in my truck on all 4 corners. Are there any vehicles that the shocks will fit from or do I need to order shocks for a lift? Also, I have longer LCAs (from a 5 inch lift for an XJ) that are already on my truck, but I want to add more lift. Does anyone have any recommendations for leaf springs and longer front springs? I am thinking around 4.5 inches of lift.

I'm just going to give this a little bump quick to see if anyone that currently has a rollbar out or can easily get to one can get the measurements.

If I were you, I would pick it up and if something goes wrong with the trans, swap in an AX-15 like Fernando said.
-
It is funny how they seem to have good plans.
-
This is what I am thinking. Before my engine swap, I had about 9-10 grand in my truck-and my truck has had a lot of money spent on paint and primer.

Very scientific. LOL Thanks for the tip. I don’t know if we will be driving at 2am. LOL

New(er) daily driver recommendations (Liberty vs Grand Cherokee)
89 MJ replied to Knucklehead97's topic in The Pub
My parents love their 3.6 Pentastar in their 2017 JKU. I am not very impressed by it because it does not seem to have a ton of low end torque. -
What are you thinking for gearing? I’m genuinely curious.
-
I will do that this week.

When you had your truck for sale though, the price was similar (if I remember correctly). I see your truck as one of the nicest MJs worth BIG money. I would also venture to guess that you have way more invested in your truck. To me, the bedliner paint makes it worth maybe half of a good painted truck. So, maybe $10,000 would be OK for this truck.
-
I do not think so.
-
A 3.73 would be really fun in it.

The ride just seemed-and even still seems-soft, even with an AAL.
-
Sounds good. I’ll add you to the list. I still need measurements if possible. If not, I will try to go to some local junkyards to see if I can buy one if any have them.

I wish people included pics of the odometer. I was thinking the same with our MJ originality specialist.

If I counted this correctly, I think we have 23 street MJ threads started here. Not bad considering this subforum isn't a year old yet.

Wait a minute, you mean to tell me that the cheap and easy temporary fix isn't a good long term solution? Who would have thought that? Crazy

I assume he is talking about suspension front to back. That's the new in thing to have your truck sitting level, so when you haul something, it is instantly squatting.
-
I think this has been repainted. Something just seems off with the paint and it has no decals. It does have a tilt column and would probably make a great driver for someone.

I suppose. I think of low mileage at ~100,000 or less, but you're not wrong, that is low annual mileage.

https://fortwayne.craigslist.org/cto/d/fort-wayne-jeep-comanche-reliable-rusty/7227164613.html $1000 Firm Old Reliable Rusty Red. or as my wife fondly refers to it as Jurassic Park. This truck is a vintage 31 year old bundle of rusty joy. It comes with a working vintage ice scraper brush. I have had this truck for 10 1/2 years and I have had very few problems with it. It starts and and drives every time. It was my daily driver until the last few years since I now drive a company truck. My wife drove it to her part time job until we recently got another car. I've driven this truck all over the midwest, so I can vouch that handles alright. I haven't used the 4 wheel drive in probably 6 years so i don't know if it still works, last time I used it it was working fine. I recently replaced the Battery, Radiator, and fixed the wiring harness. What it probably will need. -new tires (the ones on it are starting to dry rot, though the tread is still good and they hold air) -rear brake line repaired above gas tank. (I don't know if this is a must, I have driven it without rear brakes for the last 3 years and haven't had an issue stopping, but that is up to you.) -found a small spot on the frame that may need repaired, but its still holding solid right now. the bed is 7ft long. the inside of the truck bed is rust free since the cap has rarely come off. The outer bed panels are another story, though I have looked online and seen you can buy replacement panels if you're looking to make it look great again. If you're looking for a fixer upper off roading Jeep or just want a reliable old beater this truck is for you. Text me at 260-six8seven-0seven8four This looks like it would be a great parts truck or a decent truck to fix. No VIN listed

Doesn't seem like a horrible price at $1500. 1989 Jeep Comanche base model 2.5L in-line 4 4 speed manual rear wheel drive only - NOT 4 WHEEL DRIVE. short box Runs-ish. Engine sputters and surges while driving and idle when tank gets below half. Feels low on power. Low compression in cylinder 1, top end looks gunky. Sounds clunky when running. Engine probably needs a rebuild or to be swapped out. Key cylinder spun in steering column, so that’s fun. Been using it for home improvement projects and picking up lumber, but haven’t had the time to work on it. Since I’ve had it, put a new clutch master cylinder in, entirely new exhaust from header to tailpipe, bitchin’ Wally World seat covers, header panel with rad LED headlights, repaired a power steering pump leak, etc. Had plans to convert to 4.0L engine and 4 wheel drive, buuuuuut here we are. Have a timing chain kit and a bunch of gaskets for it that come with. I also have the build sheet from Jeep if you want to decode that nightmare. Give a call or shoot a text if you’re interested.
