The one JeepDriver has pictured is for 94-96 XJ's. It is still available new but chances are you're not going to want to pay the price of the kit.

Probably because of the process being cheaper for AMC

84-86 XJ's and 86 MJ's had external. 87-92? or somewhere around there had internal then Chrysler switched them back to external. You should be fine to use either bell house. This is all assuming you have a 2.5L and AX5

To a degree that is correct. Some Cali trucks got delivered here via train and were then shipped off to Cali or NM. But that is nice to know. Older trucks have no idea where they were sent to unless they have the original AMC build sheet.

I took mine out recently. I had a pic of the bottom removed and it looked like some sort of cloth/fiber like material. That was as far as I could take it apart. I think the vacuum from the engine pulls in the vapors from the tank to help ensure no fume is wasted and the cannister helps sort out the water from the fuel mixture if there is any water vapors in the tank.

Maybe it was one of those limited number run special?

Something is funny about this VIN. The last eight come up as an XJ built around the same time as his MJ.

If they are still around and if I can get them I’m sure they could be reproduced but the Olympic pioneer model is a one year only thing so doing the decals would be a one off special request run deal. Unless the XJ shared the same decal.

Chances are you probably had the nameplate with the Olympic decals. Decals are hard to come by. I know there’s a couple pieces still floating around as NOS

Oh yeah that's right. I forgot the ignition key is a 6 code. Then something is funky with the PO's key cylinders.

That's kinda why I hesitated to do build sheets for the early years. Didn't want to disappoint anyone with the lack of info. But having the build date is quite nice.

I think there's two sets.

You can easily rekey the lock cylinders to match your ignition. Not wise or practical but easier.
