I have a 229 to attempt to install. Honestly the 2.8L had the same transmissions to choose from and I figured why not give it a shot. I wanted to go 242 as I know it would be easier but it wouldn’t fit with the restoration/upgrades I am going with on my 84. We shall see what happens.

Actually if that XJ is 84, it is going to have the NP207 t-case which predates the NP231. But if it’s got an NP228/9 that predates the NP242.

When you say 241, are you meaning the NP242? I don't know if anyone has mated a 242 to a 2.5L and if anyone has I guess I haven’t seen or heard such. But you’d need to change the tail shaft without a doubt to accept the t-case.

Give the O2 a shot. It could be dead if it hasnt ever been touched or replaced.

The only thing the O2 gets voltage is to the heater circuit. It sends its readings back to the ECU. If I recall I did a bench test of an O2 and I got readings from it heated up on the bench. So if the heater circuit is messed up and reads the mixture as not hot enough, it will richen the mixture to heat up the O2 until it is where it needs to be.

Pin 35 is O2 sensor input. You will not have any voltage there at all. Pin 1,2 are ground, Pin 10 is system ground.

Let me go find the 2.5L manual and see what it says for the O2->ECU

Yikes. I don't know how good you are with circuit boards but you could always open it up and take a look. This is could possibly the second ECU failure I’ve seen this month.

Perhaps the O2 heater relay? AMC was pretty adamant about the ECU being the absolute last thing to replace.

Whats bad is I have been snagging NOS but not taking pics or anything. Alot of it isnt neat stuff, like I did get a NOS AMC seatbelt but its blue and lacks the logo. I got a NOS fog/defrost panel lens, NOS MAP sensor, NOS AC compressor if anyone remembers my 2 day get AC back operation, NOS fender support brackets, NOS cargo cover piece, NOS MJ- ebrake pedal pad, NOS Reclining chair handle, NOS license plate lamp delete for the XJ, NOS rear XJ door latch and lastly a NOS door handle bezel lock and unlock plate. Damn, thats alot I havent been taking pics off. Shame on me.
