I like how crown makes a cap for a 3 model year only bottle but won’t make a cap for a bottle that was used in two models for 4 model years. Lots of logic there.

I remember jeepdriver long ago had a hack where you take one of those torx bits like what you put in a screw or a drill and a 1/4” wrench and put the box end on the bit and you’ll have a good tool that’ll squeeze in there well without complex work arounds.

Only answer I can give is merely speculation. AMC made that connector(probably to make separation of the main harness from the ECU easier and easier to trace faults) to make the harness easier to work on and as far as why there’s X here and X there is unknown to us other than it’s just whatever the harness used. I’m sure the 2.5L might have less or more prongs on its harness than say the 4.0L does. They all do something, it’s just a matter if they are used or not which they probably all are. You could probably take one engine sensor and tone one wire out to one of those prongs.

Did you check your radio just to make sure the mouse didn’t get up there and make a mess? The speaker wiring should go from the radio and down into the doors and rear speakers.

Not much new again. Been busy with life and work. I did start something the wife and I spoke about in the winter. We wanted to start a garden and I suggested the front walkway. So here we are. Brick from my grandparents before the moved to separate the impurities and gravel and an hour of moving gravel to uncover the dirt and get it all prepped and ready. Now we just need to buy some soil and plants to plant there. We are thinking some flowers and food producing plants.

Not much new but I got the drivers side door power harness installed and will be working on getting other bits installed. For now, only power mirrors and locks will be installed until the manual regulators completely fail or until I grow a pair and swap them out before wrapping everything up haha. That being said, I was cleaning up my cabinet and I was putting all the Jeep wiring harnesses in a different container and stumbled upon a NOS passenger side door harness with an AMC logo on the plug Hard to see it but I of course installed it! The harness I had didnt have the power mirror plug and the speaker plug was damaged so it was an obvious upgrade. Still bouncing around a few different ideas for upgrades and what not but will update as I get them done.

Entirely possible. EGR is se to open up upon the opening of throttle so we can move to replace the EGR. I’ll see if there is a testing procedure on the EGR solenoid.

Ok, so we are still having high RPM issues.

Does the ISA operate? Is the throttle all the way closed? My thoughts on crap idle is the ISA not being adjusted right. As for the whole issues, I am glad it was just the CPS.

That will probably do it as well. I’m still amazed it is starting and running. Must be barely picking up the tone ring.

Try looking up info about Saginaw columns. GMs of the same era used them as well so those Chevy guys ought to have a detailed walk through on rebuilding these columns.

Hmmmmmmmm kinda weird. If the flywheel is that badly rusted, it wouldn’t hurt to give it a good cleaning.

AC is the right way and you’re getting nothin on AC? And it’s still running? Damn that’s impressive.

Are you reading AC or DC voltage for the CPS?

You know, I never thought of that but the CPS is more of a magnet than an electrical contact. Course I don't see any harm in removing the rust as I, and don't quote me on this, but I don't think rust has a lot of magnetic properties so it could be causing an issue.

Well we can check the injector and make sure it’s resistance is correct. Since it’s an 86 it’s gonna have a wide open throttle WOT switch, make sure that’s not stuck, EGR solenoid and TPS to start. You said the CPS is outputting correct voltage so we will leave it alone for now.

How do the connections on the starter relay look? We can always do a run down of the sensors to make sure they are supposed to be at their proper values.

All terminals and contacts related to the spark system has been cleaned and shiny right? Could also be having an intermittent injector issue.

Mind posting a pic of the engine bay? Maybe I can see if something is out place. I also recommend a TPS adjustment just to rule it out as if it’s reading the position to dump more fuel in than what the engine can keep up with for the air ratio, it can throw things out of wack, and verify the fuel system is working properly like with pressure, no bad injector gaskets and fuel pump. I had the filter come off in the tank once and it made driving rough for me with loss of power. Has the fuel filter been replaced recently?

Did this upgrade. It’s better than the XJ box we got from the factory and performs a little better. I had it rebuild just in case. But I like it and can say it’s tighter than the old box.
