Regear Or Bigger Tires?
nitroxsteve replied to onlyinajeep726's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I have an 88 4.0 5speed with 3.55 ratio and 235/75R15 tires and get 19mpg and some time a little better. I would not regear to try picking up a couple mpg. If you need new tires and wanted to go up a size I would probably do that but I wouldn't throw away any good tires to try it. -
Crank Turning Price
nitroxsteve replied to TheDirtyJeep401's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
probably because thats the engine in the vehicle they are needing to repair. -
I just use grease on the oring to help everything slide in place no additional sealant is needed. I would try a new lock and oring and check the area where the oring seats to the tank to see if it has any damage. It could be rust pitting, a crack, or bent.

Crank Turning Price
nitroxsteve replied to TheDirtyJeep401's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I can't remember how much the last one was that I had turned, but the shop should give you a price up front and they usually provide the oversized bearings to go with it. You can also call your parts store and price a reconditioned crank. -
Comanche Rear Sway Bar, Short Box
nitroxsteve replied to Jeep Driver's topic in MJ Tech: DIY Projects and Write-Ups
Are you carrying a lot of weight in your truck? -
I have been using a Samsung galaxy tab 10.1 for about a year now and I like it a lot. I picked it up at staples to use while I was working in South America last year. I think you will like it once you get it going.
-
I did this on my 2013 grand Cherokee and it does take a long time. It also says you can shut it off and it will resume when you restart the engine but that never worked. It sucked because in my neighborhood I would never let my car run in the driveway so I had to sit in the car thd whole time. And if yours is like my jeep it has push button start no key to leave on and it will keep shutting off and stopping the update.

Odd Backup Light Issue
nitroxsteve replied to jpdriver1's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
So with the headlights on you can turn the backup lights on and off with the gear shift? And with the headlights off you can't? -
this will only help if his water temp is low like with a stuck open or too low thermostat.
-
What temp is your engine running? If the engine is running the correct temperature but still no heat you probably need to back flush the heater core. It's a fairly common problem.
-
nope, but gravy is good.

A good lager and squirrels.

I have the rustys 3" AAL kit on my truck and have had no problems. Its a basic kit with coils, AAL, 4 shocks, and drop bracket for the rear brake hose. You will need to drill a new hole for the track bar to bring the front axle back to center. I installed a skyjacker track bar bracket instead of drilling a new hole. The only issue is that the hole for the center bolt in the AAL is too small for the MJ and needs to be drilled out, but it is correct for the XJ. You will hear some bad things about rustys but my experience has been positive.

Shackle Relocation Brackets For A Mj?
nitroxsteve replied to Zebvance's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
It looks like you have room to drill new holes in front of the existing holes. This would give you more angle and if it does not help, you could move it back to the original location. But please don't drill holes in your frame on my advise alone. You need to measure and decide if the extra holes will weaken the mount or cause any interference problems with the shackles. If this works for you could always add a plate on each side to add strength. I am no expert on shackle angle yours looks okay to me but a little more angle will not hurt anything and may help some. I think our trucks are too light in the back to ride smoothly over bumps. And it looks like yours is missing some weight in the rear. -
Shackle Relocation Brackets For A Mj?
nitroxsteve replied to Zebvance's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I don't see anything wrong. The long shackle is causing the angle to change a little but I still think its good. Why are you worried about it are you having some problem? -
Any vacuum leak between the reservoir "ball" and the dash will cause it to only blow on defrost. You just need a small piece of hose to repair the crack and you can also try a piece of tape for a temporary fix. The blower resistor is mounted on the passenger side under the dash. There is usually a plastic cover over it. I would start here if you only have high speed for the fan.

Shackle Relocation Brackets For A Mj?

The link you posted shows some examples of flat springs. -
It will not matter if it has the vaccum switch on the tcase or not if you have a non cad axle just leave the switch unhooked. If it is the same transmission it will be a direct swap except for the rear drive shaft as mentioned above. don't forget to get all of the shift linkage for the tcase including the part bolted to the floor.

Has Anyone Lifted A 2Wd Comanche?
nitroxsteve replied to benjy_26's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
VERY bad idea. I was thinking the same thing. Why ditch the swaybar on a 2wd daily driver? -
You can usually fit 31" tires stock.

Going To Look At An 88
nitroxsteve replied to 91Pioneer's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
You say the bed is "tweaked" a little, how does the bed get tweaked without getting dented? It may just be that the taikgate is not latched on one side but if it is tweaked you should look the frame over very well to besure it was not damaged in the collision. I know these trucks are not worth alot to insurance company's but is it not strange to total one in this good of shape for a fender? -
Best Factory Replacement Tires
nitroxsteve replied to big66440's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I put the Goodyear wrangler 235/75/15 on my dads ranger last year. Picked them up for $81.00 each and they are working great. -
Does your truck have the axle disconnect in the front axle? If it does that could be malfunctioning and causing you to not have 4wd.
