The simple way to think of it is 4H is for driving at speed on loose/slippery/offroad type surfaces. 4L is for low speed, high torque type applications such as climbing a rock or getting unstuck. You can shift into 4H "on the fly" without taking your foot off the gas or shifting the transmission. I usually take my foot off the gas at least just to make sure everything shifts into gear smoothly. I recall that Jeep said they can be shifted into 4H at speeds up to 60mph or so. Although I doubt you'd have a need for it at that speed. To shift into 4L you need to come to a complete stop, shift the trans into neutral, then into 4L, then shift the trans back into gear. Like stated above you can do some wizardry and shift into 4L while moving but I can't imagine that's good for it and is only for experienced off-roaders.

86 X, 2WD, 33K miles, Asbury Park, NJ - $11.9K
Dzimm replied to NHMJXJ's topic in Craigslist/eBay... i.e. Not Your Stuff
Very nice looking truck but I doubt I'd trust anyone (especially a dealer) who claims 33k miles on an MJ unless it's the original owner with some paperwork to give some proof. -
That's pretty cool but limits the turbo size. There isn't much room down there and I wouldn't want that much heat next to literally all the brake lines in the Jeep. Hopefully this helps create more of a market for turbo stuff for the 4.0 but I hope the $400 price tag doesn't catch on.

Can this mechanical fan be salvaged?
Dzimm replied to Drahcir495's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I had a fan with 2 blades bent like that and didn't know it so no idea how long it was that way. When I found it I bent them back and didn't notice any difference in the sound or anything coming from the fan. I suppose it could cause added wear on the water pump over time if not perfectly balanced. Like stated above, get a replacement if you are worried about it. They can be had cheap. -

Jacksonville, FL - Wrecked 89 Comanche Auction

Wonder if the bag on the center console had anything to do with this wreck.. bummer. -
There are a lot of different ways you can go about it, quite a few people have cut that portion of firewall from the XJ and welded it in like you describe and it could be considered the "factory" way of doing it. For mine I just cut the new holes where they needed to be and patched over the old ones.

I wave to most all Jeeps, maybe they will take a hint but have almost never gotten one back besides XJ owners, and even those only come from lifted/modified ones.

I can't speak for the Renix manifolds but I've used the cheapest ones I can find (found on Amazon) on 2 of my HO's and they are still holding up. For extra piece of mind add an exhaust flex section in just after the manifold to allow everything to flex without cracking.

This would be good for a write-up! Give it a few years and I think more people are going to need this info.

Injection. We've got 14 of them, 55 ton up to 400 ton.

Happy New year everyone, be safe out there tonight! Working right on into the new year, makes it easy to stay awake for the ball drop.

Sounds like a decent rig for the price, id probably buy it if it were close. I could live with the logo on the door or maybe the hood but as it sits, it's quite a bit over the top for me.

If you can find the owner you may be able to snag it for a really good price.

That property looks pretty abandoned. Any houses nearby you could ask about it?

Why do I want this so bad.. not gonna happen but man is that cool. -
Try bypassing the fuel pump ballast resistor on the fender of the driver's side. It's the white thing with a wire plugged in on each end.

I've heard that apparently that engine was common in RVs and you can get parts for it from most RV places. Not sure how true this is but that's what I've heard.

You have to take the seats out and pull up the carpet and you'll see where it goes. While it's pulled up check for rust on the floorboards and get it repaired before it gets worse.

An age old itch, that will finally be scratched!

Cut the corner out, find a round object that's the same circumference as the tub corner and use it to bend new sheetmetal and weld it in. -

My 92 MJ does not have the lockout. -

Cool truck. It's about 2hrs North of me. Looks like an MJ in the background of picture 18. -
These part numbers are for my application so ymmv if installing on a stock truck. For instance I bought the isolators based on the XJ leaves, I can't be positive at this point that they mount the same way on the MJ but I'd imagine they do. Amazon: Isolators (Dorman): 924-070 Center pins (Rancho): RS8128 Napa: XJ Shackle kit (Napa): 650-4157 each kit comes with bolts, one shackle with preinstalled bushing, and the bushing for the small end of the leaf spring (I'm assuming the bushing is the same as on the MJ). RockAuto: Large leaf spring bushing (Moog): MOG SB371 (this is specified as fitting the MJ, probably fits the XJ as well)

Which parts?
