Breakaway clips? Like the mirror is supposed to break off if it hits something? A deer directly hit my driver's side mirror on my old XJ and the mirror didn't break, it instead bent the sheet metal behind the mirror. No damage to the 20+ year old plastic, much damage to the metal.... How!?
-
You'll have to use Tapatalk to upload from the phone. Photo hosting by CC still doesn't work for me. As for the mirrors, you can put the XJ mirrors on but like said above, they are the exact same mirror with the exception of the 97+ like Minuit said. I don't mind the rounded style of the newer ones but think the boxy ones look better.

Really?!?! He must be joking!

This is a WORKING BA10. It is "RARE"!! lol -
They are the same mirrors on both. Sounds like you may have the older generic frame style mirrors that get bolted to the door of older pickups? Post up a Pic.

Maybe he realized his mistake of spending money "upgrading" and wants his money back.. -
Like Pete said. Check out the build threads and diy project sections for 97+ swaps. Everything you're asking is doable, it's just a matter of finding the info in the threads.

Definitely will be following this build. I'm wondering though, where can a front air dam be found? As far as I know, they only came on the street Comanches and the SCCA race trucks. On my future turbo autocross MJ build I will want an air dam like this.

Yeah these show up on Craigslist all the time around here. Never knew they existed until I was looking for an MJ.

If you just need blanks, what about an angle grinder with a cutoff wheel? Draw what you want on the steel and use it to cut it out. Then just drill your holes. Cutoff wheels are way cheaper than having them machined.

More progress has been made. I got a new battery to use instead of the cracked one. Got everything wired up and installed. It took all day but finally everything works how I want it to. I also made some battery hold down straps out of some flat steel, these things don't budge with the exception of flex in the plastic trays. The third switch is held in solely with zip ties. There is no bracket behind the blank plate on these so after cutting it out, the only ways to attach a switch I could think of was glue or zip ties. I wanted to be able to remove the switch so zip ties is the best option. It doesn't move at all so it should never fall out. I went ahead and changed the oil last night as it was coming up due for it. While underneath pulling the drain plug I noticed the entire bottom side of the front pumpkin was covering in oil... The trail led right up to the pinion. I knew it had a small leak but it apparently turned into a little more than that. I pulled the plug to see how much oil was in it and couldn't feel any. 1.5 bottles of gear oil later it was filled. I'm hoping I didn't do any damage driving with no gear oil for who knows how long. It isn't making any weird sounds so I think it's okay.

Sorry for the loss. This is very sad to hear. We lost a kid a few years older than me in a rollover crash, back when I was a freshman in high school. He wasn't wearing his seat belt and was ejected as well. It definitely is eery having a young life lost so unexpectedly. It's not supposed to happen that way. I hope the other 3 make it out okay and have learned a valuable lesson.

The 100$ Ram Charger, plus ferrets
Dzimm replied to Wiggilez's topic in Member Projects: Other Cool Stuff
Lol do many people ask what they are or think they are squirrels? To me ferrets seem like one of those pets that is common but just uncommon enough for some people to have no idea what they are. I never would of thought that people walk their ferrets but I guess it would be good exercise for them. They are definitely cute all snuggled together like that. Sorry for getting side tracked on the ferrets. Back to the RAM CHARGER!!! -
That would have been fun! Wish MOAB wasn't so far away. When I first saw the picture of the blown tire, my brain instantly thought holy crap you put tracks on it.. Ha. Love the picture on the edge of the cliff. Super cool!

Just out of curiosity, how many people look at you like you are crazy when they see you walking ferrets down the street? It's definitely something I've never seen. -
Wow I can't believe they only want $750. If that was closer I'd go look at it. If it was done well enough I'd like to finish something like that.

Looking at your pictures I notice your PCM is flat against the fender (I'm guessing you didn't use the small black standoff bracket on the rear bolts?) as well as it sitting at least a few inches away from the hood spring where I mounted mine further forward. Also I think that your rad is narrower than mine, my rad filler is as far outtward as it possibly can go and yours looks to be further inward. This all forces me to put my tray further back where the inner fender well is taller, thus setting the whole thing higher. You can see in the pictures that if I push the tray further forward, it would go under the PCM plugs and rad filler neck. That would allow the battery to sit lower but also make it rest against the filler and PCM plugs, which is no bueno. Sent from my HTC U11 using Tapatalk

Well I finally got around to doing the dual battery setup. Unfortunately both my Optimas were dropped in shipping but Amazon refunded the whole purchase price and let me keep them. One is cracked and one has a small dent. I'm going to use the dented one and get a new one to replace the cracked one. As for mounting in the truck.. It took some time and back and forth marking and cutting the tray until it fit. The battery has about 1/2" of room between the power steering fluid res, the rad cap, and the plugs on the PCM. It sits slightly higher than I want but it clears the hood so I'm fine with it. Making it sit lower would require some major modification of the inner fender or moving some components around but I don't want to do that. This weekend I will be getting the replacement battery, wiring it up, and making hold-down brackets to keep both batteries in place. Thanks to DigitalBman and everyone else for the input on the dual battery setup over on the DIY dual battery thread. The info was instrumental in making my setup work how I wanted. I finally got around to making this happen. Thanks to the help from you guys, especially DigitalBman since we have basically the same setup. It took some work since I seem to have tighter quarters to work with but I made it work. I found that just marking and cutting was the easiest route. It sits a little higher than I wanted but I can't get it any lower without major modification. The battery tray mounting holes had to be moved as well and I've got about 1/2" of room between everything around the battery. Once I get the replacement battery for the cracked one, I'll get it wired and mounted down properly.

No worries about any kind of overvolting, fire, or any arcing with it?
-
They won't do a return because they are considered hazardous. They refunded me everything I payed so I didn't pay anything and I get to keep them. They did offer to send replacements but with the crappy packaging, I don't want to risk going through this again. Plus I am showing the truck at the All Breeds Iowa Jeep Show next weekend so I really don't have time to deal with back and forth replacements. I am going to Autozone after work tomorrow to buy 1 at $250 but I'm not sure whether I want to run the dented battery or buy 2 at Autozone for $100 more than I would have payed Amazon.
-
Yes. They both read 12.9v. More than likely there is only damage to the case but I don't want to take the chance with the cracked one. The dented one I'm leaning towards using.

Well I ordered a pair of Optima D34M Bluetop batteries from Amazon the other day. They showed up but are damaged because the packaging is a joke. One is completely not usable as the case is cracked, the other only has a small dent on the top corner. I already got a full refund sent so no worries there but what I want to know is, do you think it is OK to run the dented one or should I fork over the extra money and buy a new one? On Amazon they are $200 each but I don't want to chance this again so I want to buy locally. Everywhere around here charges $250 each. I already cringe at the cost from Amazon so I'd like to try and not have to spend anymore.. Sent from my HTC U11 using Tapatalk

I'd say if it has most if not all the parts you need, grab it. By the time you spend the time to find all the parts you need, and spend the money to buy the parts individually, you'd be ahead buying this parts jeep. I've noticed a huge decline in jy XJs recently and the prices of them going up. Yeah you'll have to deal with the nagging wife but strip what you need and can sell quickly, then send it to the jy.
