Alfa Romeo project progress
cruiser54 replied to cruiser54's topic in Member Projects: Other Cool Stuff
Got a piece of crud out of one of the idle circuits on Saturday. Idles great now. I've been bugged by the fact that it has such low gears. 4.56s with 14" tires. But, yesterday I took it out for a spin and at 110 MPH in 5th gear it was still pulling. I can live with that. -

Intake bolts...Any secret?

Removing the air cleaner is a big help. Ever use the "electrical tape in the socket" trick to hold the fastener while you use the tool to get things started? -

I decided to try Iridium spark plugs. I've had good success with them in my quads and my supercharged Miata. Only went on a 10 mile round trip, but I had to turn the idle down when I got home. Feels more responsive. The plugs I removed have less than 500 miles on them. NGKs also. -

In my opinion, good used is better than cheapo knock off parts from china. -

Just use the 746s. You'll be fine. Have the stock fuel pressure regulator? -

Renix ECU, right? Start with something for stock Renix. Volvo 746s are a nice choice. -
This^^^. Cheap and excellent results.

I would look at the rear shoes first.
-
It's not pricey if you get the parts from Big David on Cherokee Forum. You know, with those shoes, if you don't have the drums turned and the shoes arced to the drums, you won't see much of an improvement. Ever removed the drums, cleaned off the shoes with brake cleaner and adjusted them properly?
-
Couldn't hurt I guess. I used that kind of stuff back in the day. If you have a Dana 35 rear, why not do the zJ rear disc swap?
-
This is interesting. Later XJ..... https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f67/98-booster-90-xj-242443/

I'm gonna do a remake on the rear body at some point, so I decided to begin by removing the big, fat, ugly license lights. I have a new LED one ready to go on. It will be located below the plate and painted the same color so it blends in.
