  1. On the '86 thru '90 ( I think, maybe '91) there is a resistor in the circuit. This resistor has to be changed to calibrate the tach for 4 or 6 cylinder engines. In 1990 they went to a variable resister and it can be adjusted between 4 and 6 (and V8)engines.
  2. In 1953 gas was 19.9 cents a gallon. Cliff Brice started another one of his price wars and it dropped down to .05.9 cents a gallon for a couple days.
  3. I just sent you 2 bits last year. What did you do with it?
  4. Does it have to be running?
  5. In 1951 I helped my uncle swap a Ford flat head into a 1944 MB. Been swapping engines into Jeeps ever since. At first he was going to use Chevy 6 but couldn't make up his mind whether to cut a hole in the firewall or in the grill for the extra foot of engine to hang out so he went with the Ford. I am not a Ford man but have always preferred small block Fords because of their size, weight as compared to a Chevy. In my personnel opinion, the best combination Jeep ever came out with was when they used the Buick engines, 225 V6, 350 and 401 V8'S. In 1970 I crammed a Lycoming 360A1 into a '55 CJ. It was NOT a roadworthy machine, meant strictly for the drag strip. No matter what engine you decide to go with, the key to a successful swap is careful planning. and a little common sense.
  6. That's like asking what kind of a woman makes the best wife. Too many variables and unknowns to fairly answer it. Is it rust free? Does it run? Out of a dozen MJ's Ive bought I only paid $300 for a 1988, rust free, 2.5, 4speed 2WD.4 years ago. It's been my DD ever since. The only thing I've done to it was add a stereo. and swap the bench seat for a set of buckets. There is such a wide disparagy between personal tastes across the country that something you can't give away in Boston will bring top dollar in LA. How bad do you want it and how much are you willing to pay? Around here a truck like you described is worth $1200-1500.
  7. ^^^^^Yep, what he said.
  8. Tell me about it.
  9. There are 3 different speedo cables for the '86-'9? speedometers. The transmission end is the same for all 3. The end going into the speedo is different. Not sure but I believe the '86 back is one type. The '87-'88 is another and the '91 up is different.not sure where the '90 fits in. You can either swap the speedo head, using the original that came out of the dash. Or get the correct cable.on e that matches the speedo head.

    Rusted Out MJ

A little duct tape, some body mud, a Earl Scwaab paint job. Be good as new and ready for another hundred thousand.
  11. For an '88, the the 8th letter designates the trim.
  12. If you're lucky, you just have dirty switch contacts on the AM,FM,Tape selector switch. Spray it with a shot of contact cleaner. If that doesn't do it then you're going to have to dig into the unit looking for a faulty part.
  13. I'm not.
  14. Sure appreciate the fact that I don't have to drive 500 miles to see the beauty in my back yard. Nice pics.
  15. If you set it on its side it would fit, or place a couple 2X4's across the bed rails for it to set on. Have Matt measure how tall the sides are? See if it will fit.
  16. So how hard wold it be to just try it and see?
  17. I promised Matt that I wanted the utility bed and would be up and get it. Unfortunately I'm unable to make it. It seems the ol bod after 79 years of use, misuse, and abuse 'ain't taking it no more' and has crapped out on me.. I'm just not functioning. Anyway would somebody please save this bed? I already called Matt and told him I wouldn't be up for it so it's available. This is to rare of a part to go for scrap. Jimbo
  18. Both the S10 and Ranger caps will fit the MJ. Dimension wise the S10 is almost exact while the Ranger is just a hair off but close enough to work. The cab sides are more vertical on the MJ than the other's so there is a noticeable slant on the side. Also there is a slight difference in the front, some being vertical and some slopes forward. And once again I can't post pics
  19. You don't need the 2.8 ssending unit. The 2.5 and the 4.0 will work.
  20. Keep the MJ base and swap the upper frame and cushions.
  21. I used a carb from a '87 S10., works OK.
  22. Remove as much rust as possible with wire brush, sand paper. Soak the area with a good rust penetrating fluid. Let set overnight. With wheel jacked up so it can spin start engine and put in gear. get tire rotating, then jam on brakes. Leave the lug nuts on but backed off a couple turns. May have to do this several times. If you have positrac then have both rear wheels off ground. There is a potential for damage here so keep the area clear, no kids, etc.Spin wheel both ways, forward and back.
  23. Done a couple of them. Just a matter of removing the old and installing the new. On a couple I removed everything from the donor, instrument panel and all sending a units. On a couple I just swapped the panel and purchased new senders.
  24. Call 473-2211. Ask for Linda. $50 for half an hour or $250 for all night. By the way. 'sight' refers to vision. 'Site refers to a location.
  25. Sounds right but wanted to confirm. Thanks,
