  1. Live on a hill top South of town. Perfect view of all the fireworks.
  2. I've found that if you take a half dozen, or more, studs and screw them in the block it will help align the pan and gasket. After getting everything started, remove one stud at a time and replace it with the proper bolt. In some cases I have just left the stud in and added a washer and nut.
  3. After market oil pressure gauges can be purchased for less than $10 bucks in any hardware, auto parts store. In my opinion a wise investment.
  4. Do you have a oil pressure gauge or idiot light? If you're getting 30 PSI you're good. 20PSI for a non working engine. Non working engine=No trailer, No rev over 2,000 RPM. My wife's grandad had a well drilling outfit, Four working rigs, Over dozen support vehicles from a half ton pick up to a 5 ton flat bed. plus welders, generators, portable pumps, etc, etc plus a shiny new Kaiser every year. He ran nothing but Havoline 10W, all the time year round. No problems. But he faithfully changed oil and filter every 1,000 miles. Actually he didn't change chet. That's what the hired help, me, was for.
  5. I'm just being a smarty pants haha. No sweat. I thought it was funny. :rotf:
  6. Absolutely do not run a GL5 gear oil in the AX5/15 that is not 'safe for yellow metal'. I personally run 10-30 synthetic in my AX5 since GL3/4 oil is not available locally. It shifts like butter at 110 degrees and at -15 degrees. Redline MT90 would be my go to gear oil if I could remember to order it. I stand corrected. Mark it up to a brain fart due to too much sun today.
  7. I remove all rust and visually inspect the old ones for cracks. If I have any doubt I magnaflux them. Generally I always reuse the old ones.
  8. For what it costs to shorten a drive shaft, why not just go to a used auto parts emporium (junkyard) and get one from a donor?
  9. Best and cheap should not be used together. When it comes to lubrication, always get the best. For the AX5, SAE-75W-90API GL-5
  10. Nobody could hit and hold a high C like Slim could.
  11. Nobody mentioned Hank Williams, Hank Thompson, Lefty Frizel, Jimmy Dickens or even Gene Autry. Hey he was a country singer.I would just as soon listen to the Boston or Phiiadelphia Philharmonic as some of the noise being passed off for music today. .To each their own
  12. Didn't realize there were any winners, or losers. Just participants.
  13. Come down a little?? Jim, what would you pay for it? Me - I would not waste my time even talking to him. I'll go $500 on any RUST FREE, complete MJ that starts and runs and has a title.
  14. Started counting ALL the Jeeps I have owned in my life, MB, MA, CJ 2,3 and 5, Station wagons, Panels and pickups 40's, 50's, 60's, '70's, and 80's thru current crop of MJ, XJ, Got to "over 50" and gave up. Have 15 MJ, XJ, ZJ in the yard now and four junkers.
  15. Doesn't hurt to try but if he REALLY wants to sell it he better be prepared to negotiate, and come down a little
  16. Not sure what all years will fit but I swapped the raggedly, torn dash from my '77 J20 with one from a 79 Waggoneer. Perfect fit.
  17. boys? Well I call 'em girls so why not?
  18. Been awhile but if I remember correctly the only difference between the '85 and '86 was the carb. I switched the ihe intake manifold so I could keep the '86 carb. Will have to go out tomorrow and check. refresh the memory.
  19. The 350 Buick is always my first choice for a swap. Lightweight compact and reliable. "everyone else does a SBC so might as well join the crowd" Sorry. What everyone else is doing will NOT affect MY thinking.
  20. Can't find it in any of the manuals but if I remember correctly, doubtful, The '86 year was the only one with an adjustable pot for the tach. '84-'86 for XJ's. All others were fixed Had to replace a resistor to change the range.
  21. Never could understand the "Chevy into a Jeep" thing. I have done a "couple" and they turned out OK. Personally I prefer a small block Ford, and I'm not a Ford man. Primary reason is because they're 200lbs lighter, 2 inches narrower, the dizzy is in front of the engine and usually a couple bucks cheaper than a Chevy. To each his own.
  22. 1.Did the Jeep have a current airworthiness certificate? 2.Did the pilot,,er,,driver have a current airmans' certificate? If the answer to both questions is yes, then I see no problem  .
  23. Give anybody an idea for a new amusement park ride?

    Tourists. Zoo

A group of tourists were going thru the monkey house at the local zoo. There was not a monkey in sight. All the cages were empty. One lady approached the attendant and asked him why no monkeys? He replied that it was the mating season and they were all inside their cages breeding. She then asked him if they would come out for a peanut? The guy looks at her and replies, "gee, I don't know lady. Would you?" :rotf:
