Wondering if the alternator isn't off a 4.0. Going to do some checking,,,tomorrow. Meantime just going to swap pumps and get the correct belt.
-
yesterday the fan belt in my '87 2.5 gave up. Today while trying to replace it from my used stock instead of buying a new one I discovered the power steering pump pulley is off set to the rear about 1/4 of an inch. With the narrow belt it seemed to work OK. The belt rode in the forward position on the PS pump and in the rear position on the rest of the pulleys. But with the wider belt it wouldn't work. Checking a couple other 2.5's Showed they all had the wide belt and the PS pulley was 1/4 inch farther out. Question is, was the narrow belt a common Jeep thing, Or did some backyard mechanic just put it together?

Not much to report. Between my rheumatoid arthritis making it impossible to hold anything smaller than a sledge hammer, and the weather haven't done much. Going to put the wife's boy to work on it. With my supervision and his brawn, may get something done.

Kind of got side tracked on that. Got the engine blocked in place and the mounts made up for. Got busy on other stuff. Was looking at it the other day and telling myself to get on it.

Hey,, Tnx for the inf. Fella is parting out a truck. I went out about 3 months ago and took a look at it. Bad tranny, Good running engine, I passed on it then. He called me this AM. Wanted to know if I still wanted it. Said he'd give it to me if I wanted it. He wants it out of his way. It's 120 miles from me Just wasn't sure how desirable it was.

Couldn't find any answers with search so I'll ask. Got a chance to pick up a 1998 Dodge 3.9 engine. Would this make a good swap into a MJ? :dunno:

Guy Appears at the Front Door, Wants to Buy my MJ
jimoshel replied to 1987Comanche's topic in The Pub
I would like to sell a couple of mine. Wife has made it very plain that when i kick off she's not messing with them. Just gonna call the crusher and have them clean the yard. Threats of nightly ghost visits don't scare her. -
Then there's always the Swiss They're nuetral.

Custom Comanche adjustable upshift light
jimoshel replied to Jacob Ochs's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Don't need no light to tell me when to shift. When the engine is screamin so loud I can't hear the stereo and the steering wheel is vibrating so bad I can't hold it,,,,It's time. -
NO! It's only done to embellish the story.

Ole was hunting geese up in the Minnesota woods. He leaned the old 16 gauge against the corner of the blind to take a leak. As luck would have it, his foolish dog Dawson knocked the gun over, it went off and Ole took most of an ounce of #4 in the groin Several hours later, lying in a Duluth hospital bed, he came to and there was his doctor, Sven. "Vell Ole, I got some good news and some bad news. Da good news is dat you are going to be OK. Da damage vas local to your groin, dere was very little internal damage, and I vas able to remove all of da buckshot. "What's the bad news?", asks Ole. "The bad news is dat dere vas some pretty extensive buckshot damage done to your pecker. I'm going to have to refer you to my sister, Lena ." "Well, I guess that isn't too bad," says Ole. "Is your sister a plastic surgeon?" "Not exactly," Sven says. "She's a flute player in da Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra. And because all you have is Obamacare, she's going to teach you vhere to put your fingers, so you don't pee in your eye.” Sorry Moderators. I couldn't resist. Jimbo

Minimum winch load rating
jimoshel replied to teamsmith's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I think they get those winch load ratings by throwing a dart at a wall full of numbers. I have a 30 year old 8,000lb rated Warn winch on the front of my J20. I have picked the entire truck up off the ground with it. I have a Tool City 2000 lb winch on a boom truck. I can't pick up a 500 lb engine, tranny with a snatch block with it. Generally, the heavier the winch, the better quality. -

Just ask a ridiculously high figure and state the price is negotiable. Don't ask to high or you will scare off any prospective buyer. Check the ads for comparable vehicles and see what they.re going for.

In the last couple years I've gone thru 5 ZJ's. I would buy non running ones from Craigs List, Get them running and flip them. Sell them, not roll 'em. I would drive them for a couple thou before selling.

When I wasn't driving a Jeep I was driving a Dodge. I liked them. The A were so light assed that they can be a bear to drive on slick roads. Always had a couple sand bags sitting on the rear fender wells.

Chop saw, or cutting torch, Buzz box. Can make anything fit. Maybe a little common sense thrown in.

Keep them dry, they'll keep for years.
