New Here And Need Some Help

BINGO! -
Referring to that Black tar, paint they had around the doors, fenders, rockers etc. Supposed to keep the vehicles from rusting out so fast. Get just a little bit on you or your clothes and it never cones out. Remember all the vehicles were White with Black trim? They all arrived White and the Black was added at the motor pool. Or anyway they did in '72-74. Maybe they quit by the time you got there.

As a purist, I would also say keep it Jeep. As a practical person I say swap.

New Here And Need Some Help

MJ brackets FEY bracket You will notice in these pics the Fey brackets are bent, To allow the same bumper to be used with MJ, S10, Ranger, etc. I also have a Fey from a MJ where the brackets are straight. No pics due to weeds an mud. You will notice the fey brackets are flat stock. The MJ are flat and angles, welded together. -
It's no secret that I would like to add a diesel powered MJ to my fleet. My neighbor just revealed to me that he has a 1983 MB 240D in his garage he has no use for. He suggested a possible trade for one of my MJ'S. Anybody here familiar with anyone doing the sawap? Or know of it having been done? I'm not to hot on giving up a MJ but maybe I can interest him in a XJ.

You disappointed me Don. I thought you'd make a comment about the 'Black Goop Treatment'. I've still got some clothes with that crap ground into them.

As long as it's already apart, i would weld and gusset it , just for the heck of it. And as for the metal chips, dis assemble everything and inspect. Metal chips got to come from someplace. They don't just materialize.

New Here And Need Some Help

I have several trucks with the Fey bumper. The mounting bracket does look like the one shown. The biggest difference between Fey and MJ original brackets is the original mounts on both the side of the frame, 4 holes, and under the frame, 1 hole. I think I'd just get a couple pieces of angle iron and fire up the cutting torch and welder. -
So why didn't you drive it back to Kwajalein? After giving it 'The black goop' treatment first of course. :rotf:

You asked your GF if you could drive her Jeep?

2 wheel car trailer= Tow Dolly $100

Same here. They have a printed price list every week in the Thrifty Nickel. Their prices are about half what regular JY charges.

As slow as I work any more, I figure by next year I'm gonna have 4 4WD MJ'S and1 XJ on it's way to the crusher, minus front axle, drive shaft, transfer case.

Makes good reading, if ya got nuttin better to do. Ain't telling how old I am but i remember telling the Chief when I first saw those 3 sails appear over the horizon, uhoh, trouble.

I love those multiple tool sets. Great for when space is limited. Unfortunately it seems the more multiple they are the less reliable they are. I would love to find a good one to carry under the seat.
-
Started to do something today and noticed something never thought about before. Out of 12 MJ'S only 3 are 4WD. 14 XJ'S only 2 are 2WD. 7 ZJ- WJ all are 4WD. Is this consistent with production figures or is it odd ball? I think the reason for the 2WD MJ is they popular with business's as delivery vehicles. No need for 4WD. Just curious.

Every one have a good one and take care. And if you love someone. Let them know it.

Back in the forties when gas was cheap , .15cents a gal, A guy walks into a Cadillac dealership looking for a new car. After the demo ride and all the sales talk the guy asks the salesman, what kind of mileage did it get. The salesman looks at him and repiles, If you have to ask then you can't afford it.
-
Listen to these guys, They know what they're talking about. Sometimes you get your mind set on a project and you lose sight of reality. I recently received a 1999 7.3 diesel and I had big plans for dropping it into a '88 MJ, until I had them side by side and got a good look at it. Reality set in. No problem. Got a '77 J20 with a tired 360. Now that's a little more realistic. :thwak: :wrench:

Check the old seal when you remove it. Usually there's too much of a mess to really tell anything but occasionally you get lucky and there's a clue as to why it's leaking. Is it leaking between the shaft and seal? between the seal ends, or the seal and crank cap.? Was it damaged during installation? Only suggestion I can make is be sure you have the correct seal. Don't just go by the box label. Make sure it's the right seal in the box. Make sure all surfaces are clean, don't damage the seal when installing. Sacrifice your first born to the Auto Seal Gods.
