My grand parents had a farm in Mo near Joplin. He had a 1944 MB that me, all 17 of his kids and half the neighborhood kids learned to drive with. He also had a 1927 Dodge, 4dr sedan. I wanted both of them. Never brought the subject up as I figured one of the kids would want them. He died in 1965 at 81. I started to contact Grandma about the Jeep and Dodge but didn't. She married some joker from town and they sold the farm. Within a week of moving in the new owners had sold every piece of metal on the place for scrap. There's a moral here someplace. Just not sure what it would be. :dunno:
D*mn Sam. I thought you talking about my old job. Then I reread it and caught the ME instead of EE. I loved it. The travel, the people, always something different and not the same old routine. Congratuiations and good luck.
All things considered, I believe the best, cheapest and most practical way to go would be to take a XJ hitch, fabricate the two end plates like the factory and drawtite and uhaul made and weld them to the XJ hitch. My 2 cents worth.
Cut the top off the ZJ. off. Cut the back half of the '97 ZJ and the MJ off. Weld , or pop rivet, the ZJ back half onto the MJ. Cuss yourself for not removing plastic TL lens before cutting and welding. Replace TL lens. Do careful work and you shouldn't need more than a 5 Gallon bucket of body mud to hide the seam and blend the body lines. :MJ 1:
My well water is so hard that I can repair leaking radiators and head gaskets just by filling the cooling system from the well and let it sit over nite.
Apparently I was wrong. The two hitches I thought was from a MJ was from a XJ. Somehow they got in my MJ pile and I never noticed. With only two mounting holes, one in each rail, there is no way to safely install a bottom mount only hitch on a MJ. I do have one receiver hitch that came off a MJ that used the two frame rail holes but it was also bolted up to the bumper.
You went thru and didn't stop by? What do you think I keep the coffee pot on for? Wasn't me. Haven't had the Red MJ out for maybe a month. There is a Red one running around town. Haven't been able to meet the owner yet.
Remind me in the morning. I've got a EZ hitch that I took off a MJ. Seems like it had both the bottom and side mount. To dark an cold to go look now. And I do have a couple hitches I removed from a MJ, only mounted on the bottom. Think they're Draw tite.
The only reason people put down the 2.8 V6 is because they can't count past 4. They make one trip to the auto parts store to get 4 plugs for the right bank and then have to go back and get 4 more for the other bank. Blaming an inanimate object, the 2.8 for their own lack of mathematical education.
