There's a '89 MJ at the local P&P that still has them. They run $25 each. $50 for the pair.I can go pull 'em if you want.

At the local P&P $250. On the open market, $75-$500.

I was going to rebuild the engine. Felt it would be easier and quicker than the other two options. Also I enjoy doing it. However Eagle and Ben made very good points and I decided to go that route. Gonna start pulling (carefully, and taking notes and pics) tomorrow morn. Thanks for the input guys. And I am quite happy with the 2.5. Thought I would never say that being the old school cubic inches = horsepower believer that I am. Just going to swap the whole drive train, engine, transmission, transfer case and both axles. Heck. After all that, I may just paint it and get new upholstery.

I've got everything you would need. I think it would be easier to swap the whole column. Changing out the stem, wiring etc can be a b*tch. It would be a lot cheaper, shipping wise, to just get the parts you need than shipping the whole column. What year is the MJ? Surely you can find something closer.

Find a XJ with cruise. Swap everything over.

I have a 1986 MJ. 2.5, AX5, 4wd, Runs good, Nice body, No rust. No dents. Engine's just wore out. Don't know why It's only got 325K on it. Highest compression reading is 90lbs. Burns a qt of oil in 200 miles. No knocks, No rattles. Got a 96 XJ been wrecked. 2.5. 5speed, 4wd, 115k. Engine runs good. 1. Should I swap engines, convert the '96 to 86 specs by swapping all sensors etc. 2. Leave it '96 specs and swap all wiring, ECU etc.making the '86 a '96. 3. Sell the '96 engine and use the funds to overhaul the '86 engine. Think I already know what I'm going to do. Just curious as to what fellow CC members would do. :dunno:

Neat. Wonder what it would take to do that with a wheelbarrow.

Width= 55 11/16" Height= 18 9/16 " Thick= 2 9/16 these measurements were taken on a light colored TG. For a dark colored one you might want to add .0001 of an inch to make up for the thicker paint.

OK. It's showing now. But it wasn't when I originally posted' It showed .55. I went edit and added the 3. It didn't show' Tried again. Edit post. Still no 3. I don't know. Suffering a severe case of frustration. :???:

Well heck. I knew that. Mind just wasn't working. Thanks anyway. And no. I haven't been drinking, altho sometimes I feel like starting.

Is there something wrong with my keyboard? or what? Can't get the three to show in three:fifty five.
-
So why can't I edit the previous post to show the correction? 3.55

Any body know off hand if the axles for '93-'97 XJ-ZJ- are interchangeable? I could crawl under them and find out but that grounds cold an wet. Got a '95 ZJ with a bad rear differential 3:73. Got a '96 XJ with good assemblies but 3.55. :dunno:

Same here. :hmm: Would have to be in Morocco or some other foreign country. Not legal anyplace in the states, at least not without a 'wide load' permit.

I was going the MB route when I first got the bug I wanted a diesel MJ. Had a '83 240d lined up. The owner couldn't make up his mind whether to sh*t or get off the pot so I started looking for something else.

Well that was a wasted trip. 65 miles to see a pile of crap on a pallet. Wasn't nothing like he described on the phone. I thought he was kind of pushy when he kept insisting I send him some money to hold it. which I didn't do. I offered him scrap price for it which pissed him off so that made two of us PO'D. Anyway I didn't hit him. Oh well. Still looking.

I tried that. My hams,,er,,hands are just to dern big to get back there and do anything.

The sad and bad part is that some of those cars are going to wind up in the sales lot of unscrupulous and unsuspecting used car dealers.

Looks like ND isn't going up against any competition. Looks like another easy win for them. :fs1: :laughin:

Every 86-'90 speedo cable I've seen the plastic clip was broke. Old and brittle plastic. I locate the cable into the speedo head as usual, and then being careful it doesn't come back out i replace the instrument panel back in the dash. Then working under the hood I push the cable firmly towards the speedo, making sure it's still seated. I then secure the cable so it won't come back out. Usually it will stay by it's self but sometimes the grommet in the firewall is loose enough it lost it's gripping power. A wedge along side the cable pushed into the hole or a clamp around the cable housing attached to the firewall will hold it.

That is a AX15. The thick divider plate and no down the middle separation.
