Wrecked 92 Comanche - Yuma AZ
rokinn replied to damianriel's topic in Craigslist/eBay... i.e. Not Your Stuff
Never mind the truck. Someone is very seriously hurt if not dead from a T-bone like that. -
https://www.alcanspring.com/ I got a quote from these guys in Grand Junction, CO. It was a fast response and you can order custom specifications right on the website. I wouldn't say they are particularly cheap but they make them exactly the way you want. I didn't end up going that route however.

If someone actually wants to learn something about the Comanches read "Empire of the Summer Moon" by S.C. Gwynne. It was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize. Fascinating read! It should also be noted that the Comanche nation has its own constitution. BTW, America is actually a continent, two in fact, north and south. It could be construed that everyone living on them are American. Not just citizens of the United States (of America).

The line just breaks completely in two.

I recommend looking between the ball behind the front bumper and where it comes through the body up toward the battery. Common place for it to break.

Head gasket replaced, now no start..

I put a 91+ thermostat housing on mine. Before I installed the electric fan I just had a plug in the hole. Have a thermostat with a hole in it and the 91 housing with the plug removed when filling. When coolant starts coming out the housing hole put it back in and you're pretty much have the system bled. I now have a switch in that to turn on the efan I installed. I never overheat now whereas I had a lot of problems overheating before, especially when idling for long periods, going too slow or towing up a steep hill. If I need to fill the system now I just remove the switch. It's a great addition. -
Been there with the eyes swollen shut and itchy privates. Cortisone shot was the only answer. Another time sitting for two weeks in over stuffed chair with arms weeping onto towels. Now at the first sign I rub cortisone cream on affected areas and it seems to nip it in the bud. Never use hot water to wash. It will spread it very quickly. The lemon approach sounds like it could be effective as well. Hope I never have to find out. Another thing to try is covering the area with clear plastic sheeting for a couple of months. Bake it to death. I would also use eye protection and an effective respirator when removing it. I've heard of people dying from inhaled poison oak smoke so definitely not an answer.

If you are leaking coolant eventually you will overheat. You may have a pin hole leak in the radiator or some other place. When you shut off the engine and there is a leak somewhere you will suck air from that site and then your cooling system is compromised. You may also have a bad fan switch.

Do you happen to know the diameter of that bar? I picked up a ZJ V8 one from the JY some time ago but I think it's only 26mm if IIRC. Perhaps it didn't have the proper V8 in it.

No it's not. Maybe they would be open to shipping. I live about 40 minutes from them.

Notwithstanding the occasional denigrating characterization of individuals with a lower level threshold for managing their anxiety and perceived threat (real or not) doesn't mean their assessments are without merit. Riding in a vehicle that doesn't have head rests is a pay your money and take your chances kind of situation. Having been rear ended when I was in my 20's transformed my life for the worse for nearly a couple of decades experiencing severe neck pain, debilitating headaches, and post traumatic vision syndrome. The better my vision was corrected the worse the headaches became. I was barely employable for much of that time. Cervical spine arthritis and spinal stenosis being the current state of affairs in spite of the therapy I did to heal the injuries. I had headrests but the car was crushed up to the back window and the seats broke loose from the floor boards. I was making a left turn on a semi rural road at sunset and the car behind me didn't see me or slow down. In the late 90's someone ran a stop light in a snow storm T-boning me on the drivers side at the front wheel resulting in a brain injury that took a good 5 years to even begin to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Personality changes, depression, cognitive and memory losses and years of testing and therapy was the result of someone else's negligence. In many instances the drugs that were prescribed only worsened the symptoms. Business and income losses diving into debt that wasn't quickly or easily resolved. Luckily I have made a full recovery, in some ways I'm healthier than I was thanks to state of the art trauma therapy. Something I decided to get trained and certified in myself to add to my 30 year profession in structure integrative bodywork. The human kind! I'm not paranoid but I also drive very defensively. Took me awhile to get to that point having once been diagnosed with PTSD. I don't assume that others are following the rules of the road or even paying attention, what with the new danger, cell phones. Not tail gating is your best defense from being rear ended. You might have the reflexes to stop in time but that doesn't mean the guy behind you does. There are a great many reasons why people have different self regulation capabilities around anxiety (free form or not) and fight or flight responses to stimuli. Critical and denigrating attitudes toward them only reinforces the complex, jeopardizes the bond you may have with them resulting in a loss of trust and respect. Resourcing their notions of success and a positive experience and outcome in any situation, MJ's or not, is paramount to expanding a persons ability to confront challenging situations unique to them.

90+ degrees of play means something is seriously wrong and you shouldn't be driving it if you value living. I'd be looking at steering gear as first on the list given your description but could be other components as well. If you have to take it to a shop have it towed there. Otherwise start looking for what might be broken. I was inches from going in the river when the tie rod on my grandfather's old jeep pickup broke. A little too close for comfort as they say.

35 ft lbs. Go tighter from there to get the cotter pin in.

Make sure the castle nut is tightened to proper torque.

If I were you I would take it home and make sure everything is snugged up before taking what they say at face value. I recently took my Subaru in to Brakes Plus (whom I had used before on a couple of occasions to my satisfaction) for an alignment after having replaced my struts. I was told the the inner tie rod ends on both sided were worn and that they needed to be replaced and might as well do the outer ones as well as the labor would be the same. They showed me too that there was movement in the steering components. Estimate was $750. Heck with that I said and ordered new inner and outer's from Rock Auto. Got down to doing the work only to find that the castle nut on the RF outer TR was loose. Can't say definitively whether it was just wear or intentional loosening but it definitely wasn't what they were saying. I changed my outer TR's and took it somewhere else for an alignment. Be wary of a lot of these places. There's a lot of shadiness going on out there.

He says he is running it as an open system so that configuration would be correct. There's no reason not to go ahead and do the valve cover gasket first. Simple job. I've read that 3 core aluminum radiators are prone to leaking. I had a 3 core and it leaked pretty quickly. I went to a 2 core and have had no problems since (several years). It's all aluminum.

Understanding how systems work is 3/4 of the battle. You're going to have to spend a lot of time understanding an visualizing the animal you are dealing with. You tube videos will give you a visual. Others will give you a how to in terms of how to repair. I don't know where you are on the curve of all of this and your talents but drive ability is the first thing if you want any sense of payback and pleasure for all of your efforts. All the other is just (don't she look good). Focus on learning how understand the issues and how to deal with them in your vision and the time line expectations. Time and experience go a long way. The alternative is to sell it if it is too overwhelming. Something like this a little later in life may well be a different story. Challenges are great is you can handle them, overwhelm not so much. It ain't t the be all end and end all by any stretch. Comanche addicts may likely disagree. Unfortunately I have the addiction as well, but it ain't the first addiction I've had to deal with in life. Good luck!
