Blew my head gasket...again...
Jeep88Comanche replied to Jeep88Comanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Back again.... Sorry for the delay. So I had it sitting for. A couple days and then went out today and it fired up. Its a rough start. But progress. I think it just needed it's own "me" time lol. I'll be checking all specs and wiring and then I'll be right as rain. I'll look into getting a new head as well. Smh. Thanks again folks! -

Yes I can rotate manually, so that's out the window. I'm gonna pull the injectors and test them. I cleaned them when I had to take it apart. Maybe I missed something. -

I've also check fuel pump ballast resistor. At TDC. I'm just baffled. Base 1988 4.0 I6 4wd standard Thank you in advance folks!

Lagging or sputtering when accelerating
Jeep88Comanche replied to Jeep88Comanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
*UPDATE* I took the distributor out and cleaned it up until I can purchase a new one. I had ordered some new tranny to engine mounting bolts as well as a new CPS just in case. Worse case I could return it. As I was putting them on I took off the CPS and it looked like the thing got ripped up. So I put the new one on and bolted everything back together and bam started up drove just fine. Thank you everyone. Looks like in still not completely done as I need to save up for the distributor. But thank you everyone! -

I'm gonna be checking it out later this evening and all day tomorrow. I did take off my distributor cap and found a small pool of oil inside. So we will see what it holds. Update incoming soon. -

No, separate encounters.. I was driving to work one morning and there was some heavy rain. No issues while I was driving. When I got off work I started noticing the screeching on my way home. I'd say my stuttering started a couple days after. I'm fine. Shifting into first and second gears, but when I give it gas. I start stuttering and feel like I'm about to get kicked out. Or I'm at a heavy rock concert. Headbanging. I did come across some reading material about low tranny fluid. What about low transfer case fluid?? also maybe cps? thoughts? Thank you Pete. -
Good evening, I have been browsing out near everywhere and all forums but haven't been able to find anything. So here we go... I started to have lovely screeching when I press the clutch in and goes away when depressed. 😔(Which is how I'm feeling about this) then I started to have trouble accelerating in 1st and 2nd gear. Feels like I'm riding a bull 🐂 everytime I try to accelerate in 1st or 2nd gear. I replaced the Pressure Plate (Cover), Clutch Disc, Concentric Slave Clyinder with Release Bearing put everything back together and now the screeching is gone but I still feel like I'm about to get bucked out my Comanche. 4.0 i6 4x4 Standard Ended up naming it Negan from TWD. Thought it was fitting.

Head gasket replaced, now no start..

No problem 🤣 it's been a blast driving. Grabbing some new tires soon and get to take it off roading. But I love the look of it. And I don't have to worry about scratching it 🤣 I get the worst mileage but it's a con I approve of! -

So... Here's the breakdown... I went and tested all spark plugs. Each one had spark.. Prior to me doing the spark test I did wire brush the tips to rid of any build up. Which there was.. placed back in. Next I removed the distributor and placed the timing at zero as well as TDC. I carefully placed the distributor with it aligning the rotor to spark #1. I did have a picture of the cap and wires prior and copied what it was before. I bolted everything back together and fired it up and it started. I assume it could have been some build up on the spark plugs. And distributor alignment. It sounded a bit rough at first but I think it may be my timing. I will be working on that now. I just wanted to thank everyone here who has helped me through this ordeal. This has been a very informative work I have done. And it was not possible without you all. Once I have it all cleaned up. I'll post up a photo of my Frankenstein Comanche.. the guy who had it prior had a lot going on with it. And did not take care of it. I reap the reward of fixing it when I can. Which I love doing. The interior definitely needs redoing. But again thank you! -

Thank you all for the input! And the cruisers tips is going to fun to read. I like the thought, time and effort into that! The cylinder is TDC and then I made sure the distributor was placed carefully back into position roughly 11 o'clock. Along with rotor in 1st position. Spark plug wires all inspected and placed according to the book. But now you say some may not be this way. So I'm hoping this works.. Tomorrow morning I'll be starting it back up. And I'll be checking the wiring again. I went based of the book I have. Chilton's. I have another massive book I was able to aquire. From my understanding it is a shops mechanic book. I think I'll dig it out. Update more once I'm able! Thank you all again. -

Sorry, but what do you mean 180 out? And I have a feeling I need to take out the valve cover and check and see if the first cylinder is up. I didn't mess with anything other than the push rods. But I'm just flat out stumped. I'm going to try and do the spark test in a bit. My battery is dead and I can't get enough juice to start it.. -

I'll be checking first thing in the AM. I think I fired my brain in the sun. So I'll give an update asap. I'm pretty sure I did but pretty sure isn't a 100%. So I'll check again. Thank you.
