Looks like a cable lock for a CAD Dana 30 to me.
-
They did make long bed eliminators, but I believe it was only the HO years. I remember a member several years ago having one. As to the OP, it will definitely have a Dana 30 front and either a Dana 35 or 44 rear. Check the floors for rust as well as the rear wheel wells as these areas are very prone to rust, but I've had a few that have seem to have rusted just about everywhere.

Could also do ZJ brakes. A little more common in the yards. Basically bolt on.

Start of my build needs advise
dunnc1991 replied to Angry_bucktooth's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
A YJ axle is leaf sprung, so you'll need all the control arm mounts welded on as well as coil buckets. I'd imagine you'd need to move the shock mounts as well. ZJ and TJ axles should swap in, but as stated they are low pinion. I'd swap 4.10s into an XJ axle and be done. How is it harder to swap the drivetrain from an XJ than an MJ? -
A few years ago I was in the same boat. Commuting in a F-350 wasn't ideal with diesel being almost $5 a gallon. Started looking for a beater. Ended up buying an 01 neon with 240k + miles on it. Was used as a commuter it's whole life an was hoping it would make it a year at most. Paid the man $1000 and drug it home. Its been almost 3 yrs and I still can't kill it. It's almost to 300k miles now with minimal maintenance and only a few repairs. I think basically anytging that's simple with a 4 cylinder engine is a good bet. Japanese is probably better as most of them are extremely reliable, but I've been surprised by my little neon.

Engine and axle swap questions?
dunnc1991 replied to 86manche207's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Just lock the CAD manually and not worry about it. Save that money for something more useful -
Could also buy it, and swap the 2wd stuff back in and sell the XJ off.

I moved from NJ to VA about 4 years ago for similar reasons. I was only 20, but was in a small town with limited career options within a reasonable distance. Decided to move south where cost of living was less, and jobs were a lot more plentiful. Just bought my 2nd house down here, and haven't looked back. Sometimes the risk is worth the reward.

Wade, 89eliminator on here just put one in his truck. Look up his build.

I'd imagine a police package equipped XJ would have a column shift? Not sure if this is true, but couldbe something to look at.

^ That's a good point. Would work quite well for that.

I don't see how that's any different than running a ball on the bumper....

Looking forward to this one

Axle swap and gearing question.
dunnc1991 replied to Knucklehead97's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
8.25 swap is just relocating the leaf spring perches to the bottom of the axle. If I remember right, the 8.25 is 1" longer then a d35 so I wouldn't think the drive shaft would really be an issue lengthwise. -
I sold doors from a 93 2 door, one for $75 and the other for $50. Clean and rust free

1992 MJ 4.0HO, 2WD 5 speed, ATL $2500

Definitely fixable. Couldn't justify the price though. -
which valve cover gasket?
dunnc1991 replied to shelbyluvv's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yes, make sure to get one for your motor year. Make sure to buy the more expensive rubber gasket. Only go with the cork if you want to do it again. -
Aftermarket taillights on a Comanche?
dunnc1991 replied to DirtyJeepGuy's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
That's the one. Showed up on here a few times several years ago. No cab vents kills it, but the body work seemsto be good working those tails in. I'd like to see it in person though. -
How well do rear XJ fender flares fit the MJ?

Aftermarket taillights on a Comanche?
dunnc1991 replied to DirtyJeepGuy's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
There was a Comanche for sale a few years back that they had grafted the 97+ XJ tails into the bed. Looked good imo, another option depending on your fab skills.
