Only thing I would recommend is switching out the optima for something else. Never had good luck out of them.

^ that's pretty slick, never seen one of those before. Definitely sounds like it'd be handy in a cold weather area.

Used to use a timer for my Powerstroke in the winter. Would come on about 2 hours before I'd leave. Never gave me any issues.

This man is the one to ask when it comes to renix engines. With age/mileage I'm sure a majority of those tips will be helpful. http://comancheclub.com/topic/48463-cruisers-mostly-renix-tips/

20's are actually standard on a lot of 3/4 and 1 ton trucks anymore. Most of the bigger lifted rigs are running on 20's or 24's

This one too

Still haven't told us if you're lifted or at stock height....

Don't consider myself a kid anymore, but I am moderately involved in the diesel truck world as well. There are all sorts of trends anymore when it comes to trucks. Squatted @$$ end, stretched tires, light bars, color changing led's, and so many more. It's all the kids who drove all the ricer cars, now it's cool to have a truck and do all the same bs to them. My Sierra is mostly stock, and lives with my trailer behind it. A truck getting used as a truck...

4wd swap on an 88 comanche need help
dunnc1991 replied to groffman056's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
What are the specs of your Comanche? That would be the first thing. Have you done any searches at all? There's a lot of info out there for you to read up on. -
Yes you can, lots of threads on this as well to read up on.
-
As stated, XJ's don't have frames. You can swap to 4wd fairly easily using a 4x4 front axle, trans, and t-case from an XJ/MJ. There is a lot of threads and write ups on here to read through.

Definitely interested in your opinion of these.
-
^ those came out better then I thought. Awesome work

Option 1 would be cool, if you painted the raised area black, or matched the paint on the truck. I think a clear tail light would look good on a black truck.

I'll play along. 4th of July 2013 we were heading up I78 in my 08 F-250 with her horse trailer in tow. It was about 10 pm as I rolled into the throttle to pass a slow camper up a hill. Suddenly there was a pop and clouds of white smoke were pouring from the exhuast. EGT'S were through the roof. Got it to a pull off and shut it down. Tried reloading the tune with no luck. Got underneath to find a stream of fuel running down the side of the block. Luckily we were one exit from a hotel, and knowing the truck was hurt bad, I nursed it up the shoulder and got a room for the night. Got it towed back the 125 miles to home. Dropped the truck off, hopped in hers and headed back north to grab the trailer and continue finish the trip. Truck ended up cracking the #8 piston and took the block with it. Bill to replace would have been around $12k and I didn't really have a desire to repair and keep driving it, so I sold it in the state it was in. It was definitely an adventure.

I feel like doing a complete motor change due to a poorly running motor is not a great idea. Even if it turned out to be something catastrophic or just a tired out motor, swap in or rebuild your 4.0 and keep trucking. Be a whole lot easier and cheaper.

May have to renew my Costco membership after all.

Any specific bulbs or suppliers?

We moved into our new house a few months ago. Now that the weather is changing and my outside projects are coming to an end, I'm finally starting to work on the garage...my "shop". First thing I need is some new lights. It has 2 fixtures with regular incandescent bulbs in them and that's it. The fixtures have 2 regu km are outlets in them as well. The po had 4 approx. 36" dual fluorescent lights on the ceiling. They were plugged into the light fixtures mentioned before. I'd like to go this route, but have been looking into LED lighting. Just looking to see if anyone has any opinions or suggestions. Budget isn't too tight. Willing to spend some for good lighting. Thanks

Are you planning to off road it, or just drive it? If you plan to wheel it a decent amount I would look strongly into larger axles unless you don't mind breaking and replacing components a lot. -
We just moved to a new, larger house with a decent sized attached garage. It's basically a blank canvas and still a mess from when we moved. Started getting it organized today a little. Will be keeping an eye on this thread for ideas. Plan to eventually build a larger detached shop somewhere on the property. I have plenty of space.

Only a 3 and a half year old thread

One of those cabins was going to be my suggestion. We stayed in the same thing when we went to OBX this summer. Had enough room for our 3 dogs and us, and the cabin itself was actually really nice
