I wonder if there would be interest in this bracket, which is part of the factory front tow hook setup:

Can anyone tell what year this cluster is from?
schardein replied to Dando's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Original poster-- there might be another path to consider. Trucks with cruise have a short speedo cable that connects to the speedo on one end, and on the other end is a speed sensor with a wiring pigtail. This sensor sends a signal to the cruise system. Also, the trucks speedo cable from the transmission (or transfer if 4x4) attaches to the end of this speed sensor. If the cruise control application cable was cheaper or a better fit, there is no reason you couldn't use it with the correct short cable and speed sensor. Someone probably has one laying around. The sensor would only serve to connect the two cables in this case. -
door weatherstrip

Another option for a w/s with worn sections-- I've noticed that the rear door weatherstrips on my XJ seem to wear out where peoples feet rub across it getting in. I've seen similar on my MJ, holes worn in the w/s in certain areas. I pulled a w/s off a 96 XJ and then cut one foot sections out of it and basically made "patches" for the worn sections of my w/s. I slip an appropriate size vacuum or fuel hose inside the "bulb" of the w/s at the butted joints of the patch. -
I have a feeling the interior video gets clicked on a lot.

I've often wondered why U-bolts can't be reused, but wheel lug studs generally last the life of the vehicle and will certainly be re-torqued multiple times.

HVAC mode actuator location

HAHAHA I had the same issue with my $400 XJ. It seemed he went out of his way to do poor repairs. Just one example, he cut one of the support rods for the wiper transmission assembly, I suspect because he couldn't figure out how to get it out. Then he taped it back together with electrical tape (yes, yes he did). Me, wondering why the wipers are out of sync....hmm, never seen this before. And I had a leak at the vacuum ball... defrost only. -
Very cool! I remember driving my 78 Chevy to college on a curvy country road on fall mornings. Some of the shadows cast by the rising sun were epic!

I smoked off and on in different stages of my life. The on stages lasted years. I always quit cold turkey. At one point, I had been off for nearly 5 years. Was at a Marine Corps Birthday Ball celebration and was offered a cigar. What could it hurt? Plus I didn't want to seem ungrateful to be offered an expensive cigar, right? I was smoking again two days later and it lasted for 10 years. I quit again in 2012. Now I guard it. I am addicted to cigarettes like alcoholics are addicted to alcohol. When someone offers me a cigar, I flatly refuse and tell them why. Usually they are very supportive, which of course is a welcome surprise. I still occasionally have an urge, but as someone stated before, it quickly passes. It doesn't bother me to be around it, although some who quit are bothered to be around it. If you are, don't be afraid to speak up or remove yourself from the situation. Congratulations on your achievement! You are past the hard part. PS, I'm also addicted to Jeeps, but that's ok.

I have a jack crank handle from an 88 MJ. I don't know if these were used with other model Jeeps. I compared this to my 91 XJ and while it would still work, the XJ one is shorter. $20 plus shipping OBO I'm in Missouri.

Found this one in a junkyard in Illinois. 2wd, auto, 4.0, D35, burgundy interior, Sport truck, not many options. Wrecked on driver side. Missing tailgate, tail lights, rear flares when I found it.

1975 Brutally Simple Daily Driver
schardein replied to neohic's topic in Member Projects: Other Cool Stuff
Love your Jeep! This 67 was my daily driver in Hawaii for 5 years. I still have it but the motor is blown and rust has gotten it. Maybe someday it will be resurrected. -
I don't have one, but I could get one on my next trip to a junkyard. No idea when that might be. I usually go once a month, just went this past weekend.

Some good replies... Being semi-ok with Lectrical, I'd second making sure all the grounds were good, perhaps adding a few even. Blinker and running lights issues always seem to be ground related.

I've only done a little bit with paint. Waaaayyy back when I was 17, I had a local paint ship mix up some paint to match the camel color in my K5 Blazer, which I then used to paint my "Highliner". Some of you olden guys might remember them, they mounted your stereo overhead and had 4 speakers in them, and replaced your headliner. I see he is working in the sun, I suppose so he can get a perfect match. Cool.

Pricing help on black interior parts?
schardein replied to junkdealz's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I've seen dash clocks go for $30-$50. -
I've had very good results repainting metal and vinyl interior parts with SEM paint for plastics. As for painting carpet, no. Just no.

Don, my MJ doesn't have a factory light, and I haven't added one. This truck in the pictures was in a junkyard in Stafford, Virginia around 2011-2013. I don't recall the exact year of the truck and not sure if I have notes on it, but I think it was an 88-89-90. It was a renix, 4.0, 5 speed and I pulled the Dana 44 from it (with 3.07 gears). I've heard that early MJs are all wired for the cargo light, up until 89 or 90 (not sure which). I've checked and my truck is not wired for it.

That's a good question based off these pictures. No. They use a self drilling phillips head screw with a built in cone washer, from the outside. On this particular truck, they were so rusted there was nothing left for the screwdriver to grab, so I drilled the heads off to get the light. Then took the pics.

Ebay is a great place to find vintage and used auto parts... but buyer beware. I've seen a lot of mis-advertised items recently. I searched for an XJ 242 shift bezel, and found no less than 3 231 bezels advertised as 242. I contacted all three, two responded with thanks for the correction.

Maybe I missed it, what size tire are you planning to run? I use a NV3550 (4:1 1st), Dana 300 (w/ 4:1), and 4.56 gears. About 73:1 low/low and run 35" tires. This is in my CJ7. I off road quite a bit and have yet to be in a situation where I wanted lower gearing.

If your truck is a renix, you can adjust the mileage. Just need an electric drill. It can also be done for HO, but is a little more involved.

Well shoot. Yes it says good until the end of the year.
