  1. That was a little before my time. Not to change the subject to books, but I've read all the original Ian Fleming/James Bond novels, and thought they were really good. After reading Dr. No, I watched the movie. I'd seen parts of it, but not all.
  2. Good to know. I'm getting a Borla header for a 4.0 and 4 CJ steel wheels done now. Depending on how they turn out, I may do the Turbines.
  3. That is interesting. If used in an interior other than gray, like maroon, they would need painted. Would lose the on/off symbols. I think most everyone is familiar with the S10 Blazer lights, which is another option. It does require some trimming of the panel to fit the lights. Another option I have been wondering about. This is a Jeep Commander light that is right above the front driver and pass window. Push the lens to turn it on. I don't know if they would actually fit, probably require more trimming than the S10 lights. And they use a smaller bulb (#194), so potentially less light. But to me it would be cool because it's a Jeep part. Commander light left, S10 right.
  4. What is a fair price for powder coating? Local place wants $75 per wheel for one color. Owner says to mask the non-polished areas and do a different color is to labor intensive and triples the price with the intent that no one will ask him to do it. I have two sets of these and want to run them on my MJ and XJ. But they are pretty rough looking. Anymore pics of powdercoated wheels? Prefer a silver for these type of wheels, black is not my cup of tea.
  5. 15 hours for me. I would love to come though. Make it a 3 day drive and stop at junkyards on the way. Six Jeeps, but would probably drive my Chevy for his kind of trip.

  7. I like the crop in the first post.
  8. If you go with a 242, the shift bezel is different, it has the additional "full time" setting. This part is obvious, what is not obvious is that the metal shift gate below the bezel, bolted to the floor, is different from a 231 to a 242. From what I have researched, the shift handle and shift linkage below the body is the same, but that gate is definitely different. I have a D44 rear and 242 case that will be going into mine as I convert it to 4wd. Hope to start the work this summer. First pic is a 242 gate and bezel, second pic is a 231 gate.
  9. I was 10 years old and my little brother and I were spending the summer with my Dad in Topeka, KS. My Dad would drop us off at the movie theater on Saturday afternoon with enough money to watch two movies. It was a different world back then. I didn't get it at the time, but he would go spend time with his girlfriend, then pick us up. I remember watching Star Wars the first time, and the shock when Darth Vader killed Ben Kenobi. The next Saturday, my brother and I saw it again, twice. When Dad picked us up, and asked us what we saw, we yelled "Star Wars!". And what else? "Star Wars!". He was like, you saw it twice?? The next week, he went with us, and loved it as much as us. It almost seems like a cliche now, but I still think it's the best movie ever. My Dad never had a lot of money, but we always had enough for a few comic books every week. I grew up reading The Avengers, I feel very lucky to be seeing all the Marvel superheroes being brought to the big screen, and my Dad would have loved those too.
  10. Nice job Pete. Funds sent.
  11. I would be interested in some of these. Can I make a recommendation for a paint scheme?
  12. My condolences to the family and all his friends, including those here at Comanche Club. I had several personal interactions with Don during my time here at Comanche Club. Since hearing the news of his hospitalization, I'd been looking forward to his recovery and first post saying he was back. I'm deeply saddened by this loss to our shared community. My thoughts are with the family during this difficult time. Rest in Peace, Chief.
  13. THAT^ I've got two of the clusters with gauges but no tach. Large fuel gauge where tach goes. But they would be closer to a direct plug in. The cluster housing you are looking for will have a blue housing. The 1991 and later have a white housing and use an electronic speedometer.
  14. There is a reason aluminum wheels are considered an upgrade over steel wheels, and it's not (only) the appearance. Aluminum wheels are much lighter than steel wheels. This reduces unsprung weight and can give better handling, braking, and acceleration. Plus, they are much easier to handle when rotating your tires! I rotated the tires on my XJ (factory aluminum) and MJ (factory steel) the same day and was surprised at how much heavier the steel rims are. Aluminum also doesn't rust and is less likely to bend (although they can crack instead). I've bent steel wheels on two occasions (hint: don't get airborne or ram snow banks). Some will say a heavy steel wheel can help off road by "pulling" the suspension down during extreme articulation so it can contact the ground and get traction. I think that is really reaching for a "benefit" of steel wheels.
  15. This makes a lot of sense to me.
  16. Here is a pic of the under dash courtesy lights with the pre 90 type connectors, a headlight delay relay, and the ashtray light. The mounting screw is accessed through the ashtray opening, on the upper driver side. Right next to it is the slightly larger opening for the light itself. Some of the XJ cigar lighters are illuminated. Bulb might be burnt out, it's common.
  17. The consoles from an XJ up to 96 will work as previously posts say. A factory console for an MJ will have a closed piece in place of the open slot in the XJ console where the parking brake lever sticks through. The console attaches at a bracket at the back and middle, and the shifter assembly at the front. Something might have to be added at the front to bolt to if one has an automatic since the shifter is on the column. Some XJ consoles will have a switch for electric side mirror adjustment switch. This will leave an unsightly hole since it won't be used on the Comanche (unless you add electric adjust mirrors!) Later XJ consoles, and I forget exactly what year this started (93-94ish?) will have slots on the passenger side to add a factory cup holder. There is also an aftermarket cup holder designed to bolt over the parking brake handle (on XJ setups). Either version has limited usefulness, but might be better than nothing.
  18. As the previous post show, the clocks changed almost yearly. It annoys the heck out of me when I see one on ebay for sale, and listed as "fits all XJs and Comanches". Absolutely not true, at least without re-wiring. Also, I have a 93 XJ parts rig, and went searching for the clock connector. Not there. I always thought XJs were wired for the factory clock up to the last year for 1st gen, 1996. But now I am not sure. I pull every clock I come across. I currently have an example of each version. Had planned to do a complete write-up in the future. I have noticed a small percentage that I have pulled don't work. The most common problem is the little push switches to adjust the time get jammed up. They are the kind that you insert a pen into to adjust. Probably damaged from people being ham-fisted when setting the time. Sometimes this can be corrected, sometimes not. Something to consider if buying one used. I would demand that it be tested and pics provided of it working. If buying from a junkyard, I would test it before buying.
  19. There are a couple options for replacement B pillar lights. Comanches are wired for courtesy lights under the dash. There are two different connector versions 86-89, and 90-92 (up to 96 for XJs). There is factory wiring to add a light for the ashtray. They can be sourced from higher trim level XJs. There is a light in the glove box, if it doesn't work it could be a bad bulb or sticky switch in the latch mechanism. I usually have some courtesy lights, S10 Blazer B pillar light replacements and ashtray lights. All I have right now are ashtray lights. The older stuff is getting harder to find. It would help to know exactly what you are asking about.
  20. WELL DONE! I liked to look at the old map from time to time. Glad to see we beat the system again.
  21. Here is a picture of a pair without the ridge around the rocker switch.
  22. To everyone- I've replied to three people who are interested. Here is some further info I am sharing with everyone: These come in 82-94 (1st gen) S10 Blazers and Oldsmobile Bravadas. They only come in black. Part number 20370830. There is one per truck in the rear cargo area. I've seen two types, they are exactly the same except one has a prominent ridge around the rocker switch and the other does not. I prefer the ridge, so that is the only type I pull. I've painted them maroon with SEM paint, and it is a near perfect match to the MJ interior. I've got two shades of gray, a lighter and a darker, and both are a so-so match- I have a 1991 Cherokee to compare it to. My 91 MJ has a maroon interior. Painting takes some time on my part, and the paint is expensive. But they turn out really nice. The stock opening must be enlarged about 1/8" longer and 1/16" taller. This is easiest done with a dremel but can also be done with a hand file. I had to remove the B pillar to do mine. Wiring: Cut off the stock plug and splice on the Chevy plug. Black- Ground Orange- B+ White- Ground from door switch They will come on when the door is opened, and can be operated independently by the rocker switch, or through the headlight switch in the normal fashion.
  23. I just replied to you
