There were some private land owners in Crozet, VA that used to invite folks to wheel on there land on weekends for a small fee. You camped out in the pasture/front yard. I don't remember their names, but good people and we had fun on the trails.

Jeep Turbine 10-Spoke Rims Restoration

Were they painted, or just "as cast" aluminum? -
I may have a seat frame and foam cushions (no seat cover). I think just one though. If interested I could get a pic.

I have this. Rear center seat belt from an XJ. I don't know if they are the same as MJ. There is an edge where a mouse chewed on it. Looks great other than that. If it is of use to you, pay shipping.

When I heard that Craftsman ratchets were being made in china, I got on ebay and bought an American made 3/8 flex head ratchet with the angled handle, because I needed one. My old Snap-On finally broke and I didn't have time to locate a truck to exchange it. Got the ratchet, which was supposedly new (looked new), and after a couple uses the ratchet mechanism got flaky. Under load it would pop and reverse direction. Very disappointing. I bought a Gearwrench flex head ratchet and have been pleased with its performance. Believe it or not, I also have a Harbor Freight flex head 3/8 ratchet in my junkyard bag. I thought, if it breaks it is easy to replace. I've abused it for about 5 years and it's still going. I have the same style flex head ratchet in 1/4 drive, and it has held up very well also. This style: https://www.harborfreight.com/3-8-eighth-inch-quick-release-swivel-head-ratchet-96782.html I also tried this one, and broke it in two months. https://www.harborfreight.com/14-in-38-in-drive-long-reach-dual-flex-head-ratchet-67994.html When I went to exchange it, they didn't have any, which is when I got the style above instead.

Clutch master cylinder trouble
schardein replied to JeepDreamer26's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I experienced a M/C failure in a swap scenario where there was no positive stop for the clutch pedal other than the M/C itself. The pushrod popped out the back of the M/C. I was able to rig it in place to get home. Replaced it with the Rockauto unit and had no issues for 6 years. I currently have it apart so I am modifying the linkage to have a mechanical positive stop at pedal fully up. Jeepdreamer26, if I understand your post correctly, you still have the stock M/C. Does the Jeep pedal assembly have a positive stop for the pedal? I don't have any manual XJ/MJ so can't look myself. Besides being a low quality part as described by Jeepdriver, I wonder if the lack of a positive stop could contribute to the problem? -

Watching. I am wanting to do the same thing, polished the edges and paint the rest black. Can I make a suggestion? Cut that old valve stem off. When done painting, put a new one on. They aren't expensive and unless they've been recently replaced they might be 30 years old. Cheap insurance. -
My problem is finding a Snap-On truck. How does one exchange the tools if they don't work at a shop that the truck regularly visits?
-
You think Lowe's is bad, try exchanging Snap-On tools when you don't work in a shop their truck visits...

I peeled mine off an XJ visor in the junkyard about 10 years ago. No idea what year it was, but I will look for the original and get dimensions. EDIT: some quick google fu says 1997-2001 XJ, 94-96 ZJ, and 1997 & 2002 Plymouth Prowler (umm, no)(so take this knowledge with a grain of salt...)

Glad you are ok, get well! Part of our annual safety training back when I was on active duty included some paramedics who did a skit of what the immediate actions consisted of for someone seriously injured in a car accident from not wearing their seatbelt. They give a pretty graphic account- I've seen grown men faint during the presentation. One was inserting the suction tube into the lung through the armpit. They say it is one of the most painful things you can experience.

Man that sucks. I've returned tools twice to Lowe's, first time (local) went very smooth, 2nd (not local, I was on vacation and broke a tool) I got a lot of "uums" and "ahs" and raised eyebrows. I told the two ladies to go get the manager while I grab the replacement. Worked out in the end, but I nearly lost my temper since I was on vacation and they were drawing out a simple thing.

I see this question a lot on FB swap forums, many will say use the 4L60e for simplicity. I think it really boils down to which you prefer. Not an MJ, but here are the quick specs on my CJ7: 5.3 NV3550 Dana 300 4:1 Dana 44 front and rear, 4.56 35"s The NV3550 has held up after two years and multiple wheeling trips. I've never owned an AX15, and I've heard different things. Some say they are comparable to the 3550, others say it's not as strong. I've got a NV4500 and thought about running it. But the extra length, weight, and probable mods to the floor board, plus no problems with the 3550, keep me with the 3550. I think 4.10 gears will be a little high for 35s and 37s. 4.56 for 35s or 4.88s for 37s will give better performance off the line and make the overdrive more usable.

Clutch master cylinder trouble
schardein replied to JeepDreamer26's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I think the last pre-bled unit I bought was the cheapest one from Rockauto. Ran it for 5 or 6 years until I swapped engines and went with a different setup. $98.89 + shipping on Rockauto. https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/jeep,1996,cherokee,4.0l+l6,1180314,transmission-manual,clutch+master+and+slave+cylinder+assembly,10290 -
1985 white instrument cluster
schardein replied to schardein's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
There is no doubt that someone took very, very good care of it. You hit the nail on the head, how can the interior look that good at 164,000 miles? I do think though that the carpet had been touched up with paint or dye. Possibly some of the other parts as well, but very well done. That steering wheel... the plastic horn button looked NOS, like a mirror. Not a single smudge or scratch on it. -

Well darn. I didn't realize it was worth grabbing or I would have. It was 18 degrees and already late in the day when I stumbled across it. Had it been earlier in the day, I might have reached out on here to see what people needed/wanted. -

I've pulled an 86 cluster from an MJ, and it was blue. See pics. That cluster went to a CC member, but I do not remember who. -

Plugs aren't for sale separately, but the cluster is. I will post separately. I wanted to put this in tech to capture that pre-renix "white" clusters do exist. -

I know right? I don't have them. This Jeep is 4 hours from me, and I won't be heading that way until the weather gets better. And they are likely gone. -

I had a 78 Chevy Scottsdale and still have my 79 Blazer, both with the camel interior. My favorite interior color by far, although the maroon in my 91 MJ has grown on me. -

I have the grill, but it's not for sale. The lights were decent but I didn't grab them. If I remember right, the reflectors were rusted at the bottom. -

I'd heard of this, but never seen one. I pulled this instrument cluster from a super clean 1985 XJ Wagoneer (2.8 V6 and manual trans... yes manual... with cruise control). I have always thought all Renix clusters are blue and all HO clusters are white. This is the exception to the rule, although I guess technically this is a pre Renix cluster. I suspect it would still work on an 86 MJ though. The XJ was one of those super clean rigs that almost makes you sorry to start taking parts off it. Almost. .
