  1. Good info and I agree with the design concepts being discussed here. I don't think you can overcool an auto trans, and relieving some of the cooling burden from the radiator sounds like a good plan. Tru-Cool makes some good oil coolers. I am adding an engine oil cooler to my CJ7 and did a bunch of research. Tru-Cool oil coolers are stamped "Long" on the mounting brackets, and the same cooler is sold under several brand names. Tru-Cool seems to be the least expensive. I eventually made my purchase on Amazon. This link is an engine oil cooler, but they make trans coolers also and in different sizes. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003TPUL2K/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
  2. Is there a pun in here? LOL I would like to have tilt one day.
  3. I have been searching for Roadtrek class b RV vans lately, and have seen the same phenomenon several times. Multiple listings of the same vehicle, across the country, with one pic, slightly different but certainly the same vehicle.
  4. Good to know.
  5. This is interesting reading. My thoughts are not exactly about total cost however. When I lived in Virginia, if I wanted to cancel insurance on a vehicle, I had to turn in the plates to the DMV. The point being, I guess, is I can't be trusted to NOT drive my non-insured car. Now, I own several vehicles and can't drive more than one at the same time, right? So I get very angry when "big brother" has these BS rules. I guess I get it, so many people out there aren't responsible, and drive without insurance. But that's not me, so I resent the BS rules. I got around them because I am active duty military. I just registered my vehicles in my home of record, which does not have the "turn in your plates if you cancel insurance" rule. And it is totally legal. Now I live in MO, they don't play that game here, which is nice. It does seem like many times the rules don't benefit the guys like me that own multiple, older vehicles. I don't like paying registration (TAXES) multiple times (right now, I have 4 registered vehicles). As I said, I can only drive one at a time. Why do I have to pay taxes to maintain the roads multiple times when the total wear and tear I put on the road doesn't change... it is just divided between several cars. I don't know if my thought process will make sense to anyone...
  6. I was working on my CJ7 with swapped in 5.3 the other day... doing multiple things at once... disconnected the #1 spark plug wire... did some other things... and then started it. Wouldn't rev, thought I had left the throttle control module disconnected (I had been messing with it too)(it has the electronic throttle pedal). Push the gas pedal, nothing. Then realized I had left the spark plug wire off. Plugged back in and all was well. Trouble codes indicated the electronic throttle module though... weird.
  7. Yep, my last ratchet purchase was a gearwrench.
  8. If that was a little (ok, lot) closer...
  9. I have a D30 out of an early XJ with the V6 engine that has factory 3.73 gears. It is a high pinion non-CAD axle. Pulled it for future use when I convert the MJ to 4wd. Sourced a factory MJ D44 for the rear with 3.07s. Will be swapping in 3.73s and a Truetrac.
  10. Hahaha... so now you have me wondering if statistics on this exist! Is offing your significant other on a long road trip a thing?!
  11. Isn't there an entry fee at the crater? Seems like I detoured off to see that, only to find a substantial entry fee. I was a little disgusted there was no warning in any brochures I had, and didn't go in. That was waaaayyy before internet and cell phones LOL. Ditto advice for long trips. Drink plenty of water, which will then require frequent rest stops. Stop, relieve, walk around a little, stretch, hit the road. Drink water. Repeat. Ditto for a few hours of sleep in a rest stop or Wal-mart parking lot. I follow the rule of its better to have it and not need it, but I've never had a problem (2nd Amendment).
  12. This is from a 5 second internet search.
  13. Yes, and the emissions sticker under the hood has the year of manufacture on it. Some vehicles, that info is also on a sticker inside the driver side door jamb. Depending on the junkyard, they may be able to print you a list of all the vehicles of a specific model/year range in their yard for you, if you ask. Some will have the location in the yard. Other places will have a sticker on every car in the yard, generally on the windshield and/or rear fender indicating the year and sometimes the date it was set in the yard. I am generally talking pull your own part type places.
  14. I don't think this is going to help, but... I am 50 years old and still own the K5 Blazer I drove in college. The axles and transmission are out of the 78 K20 I drove in high school. So you might gather I am also a little sentimental. My vehicles are like a part of the family. I sold an 89 XJ Wagoneer- regret it. Sold a 2000 XJ- regret it. Sold an 80 Toyota Pickup after owning it for 6 years, and a month later the new owner sold it to a local junkyard. I hated seeing it there, but it was still the right decision. The fact you are asking the question means you are giving it careful thought, which many young people fail to do. In the end you will have to make your own decision, for your own reasons, and live with it. That's not a bad thing, that's life.
  15. I've got a bunch of pics of this 88 Laredo. Don't remember where/when I downloaded them from the net...
  16. Here is a close up of one of the bolts. They are under "flaps" of the carpet. I have the vinyl floor in my MJ, and it also has the "flaps". Notice the foam padding on the driver side in the previous pic. That is for the jack stowage. If the truck didn't have the carpet panel, the foam pad was stuck directly on the rear wall. You will have to pull it off to make room for the foam pad attached to the carpet panel. The hole in the center is where a small bracket on the rear wall protrudes, and there is a clip that the jack handle clips into.
  17. The carpet panel attaches on the side with metal clips, 2 on each side. It also has two "feet" that bolt to the floor. One is more or less center, and the other is on the pass side. No bolts on the driver side. When removing, I remove the two bolts, and then carefully bow it out in the center until the clips on one side slip free. You are fighting the feet on the floor, the center bracket poking through, and the two brackets poking through on the driver side that are for the jack, so go slow and be patient.
  18. Great work. Now I want a drone.
  19. I've got some pics of how the panel mounts I can post later. On the belt tensioner, if you have an HO and can swap to the late style manifold, which requires a different P/S pump mount, the belt adjustment is MUCH easier. I'd say almost worth doing the swap alone, besides the better manifold.
  20. That is interesting. I kind of like it. I would have done it a little differently. I would leave off the "MJ" on the tailgate, leave off the lower body stripe, put "Comanche" in place of "Eliminator", leave the roof white, leave off the center pin striping on the hood, and blacked out the w/s wiper area. Looks well executed from what can be seen from the pics.
  21. I'm a fan of the tan interior on the late XJs.
