What's a World Serious? I'm surprised the title of this thread hasn't been fixed yet LOL
-
I've done a little more to my project. I installed the Euramtec interior courtesy lights I got from eBay. A little pricey but wow they look good. I expected them to be brighter. I also changed the spark plugs, it definitely runs a bit smoother now. I looked at the cap & rotor and I should really replace those too, so that's on my to-do list. I also took out the box liner and the box is in surprisingly quite good condition underneath. The paint is rubbed through from friction but there are no real noticeable dents and scratches, so clearly the liner was installed when the truck was pretty new. A pic from two days ago. It was overcast so you can see the paint under more normal-ish light.

Who has over 200,000 on a daily driver?
91Pioneer replied to 88AMComanche's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I keep vehicles on average 3-4 years so there's no way I'll put 200K miles on any vehicle I ever own. I only had my 88 MJ 6 months . :MJ 1: . -
Well I figured I should start a new project thread for my second MJ. I sold my '88 recently and bought this '91. First, my favorite photo of it: It's a 91 short box Pioneer 2WD. It has about 254,000 km (~158K miles) and seems to run strong. I kind of know the two previous owners of the truck, the guy I bought it from owned it the last 8-9 years and the guy before that owned it for maybe 10+ years. The truck is pretty beat down, worn out in some ways. Really, it was neglected like crazy by this last owner. The oil was blacker than tar and he couldn't remember when he changed the oil last (years ago). The transmission line had a leak so the fluid was being pissed out and the transmission was slipping. The cab corners and rockers are pretty much shot. There are dents on every single body panel, and rust on most panels. But what it is, is a good project truck. This isn't my daily driver and I like "tinkering" on vehicles so I bought this to enjoy it (not leave town with it), and slowly fix it up. I fixed the transmission line leak using one of those brass barbed fittings, topped it up and the transmission runs great now. Luckily he hadn't driven it more than about 15-20 miles since it started leaking. The air filter looked like it was original, it was nasty. So far I've put in a new air filter, changed the oil, topped up the coolant, replaced the rad cap, and removed the awful seat cover he had on the seat. Oh yeah and the tires were shot so I put on some new P215/70R15 tires I had sitting around that I wasn't using. So obviously the speedo is out a bit now too. I put them on some Cherokee 10-hole aluminum wheels I picked up earlier this year because I always liked them on the Eliminator. I've got some new spark plugs and a fuel filter to put in soon. Not sure what my plans are other than to do the normal maintenance stuff. Long term I'll work on the body a bit, knocking out dents and maybe try to replace the rockers/corners myself. The floor boards are rusty but there are no holes, so that'll be my winter project, to tackle them. The truck isn't actually this "bright red", I took these photos when the sun was setting and really bright. Normally the red seems darker.

I don't know what TL/DR means but hey you took the time to write a book so I read it. I wouldn't get too hung up with keeping the original block, after all it served you well for nearly 500K which is fantastic. Swapping in a known-good used engine is probably going to be the cheapest route if you're on a budget. If you're still in school, I'd recommend saving the stroker dream for when you're out making cash not spending it on school, you have plenty of life left to do it up the way you want. Yeah that's a lot of thoughts LOL. I hope for an actual progress update soon ha ha. Gas tank sounds like a priority, bite the bullet and fix that before you have a really bad day. Do the priorities first, engine, gas tank, stabilizer bar end link, spring(s), brakes, etc. Don't worry about the trans, rear diff, bumpers, etc. if they're doing OK. I highly recommend you literally write out a list on paper and number them based on priority and start at the top. If you plan on staying in Saskatoon after school, you should work on those things that need to be fixed to pass an SGI inspection. With that said, sometimes you have to step back and take a look if your vehicle is really worth sinking that much money into. Or maybe you should just save money until the right other MJ comes along which will need less work. That's your call. Too bad you weren't in the market a few weeks ago, I sold my 88 which recently passed a full provincial inspection and I had done a bunch of work to, it ran like a champ.

I sent you a few bucks too. I think this is the first time I've donated to a forum, most other sites run lots of ads and don't need donations. Keep it up, Peter. . :MJ 1: .

The sticker on the door does not tell you the model year, it tells you the date of manufacture. Just like right now, you can buy 2015 model year vehicles in 2014. So your truck is actually a 1990 model that was build in 1989.

I ordered an owners manual from eBay.

Not Wrecked Eliminator - Red Lion, Pennsylvania

I saw that, boy is it minty! -
Kkilmer87, do you have the full meal deal like shown in the pic?

Why are the photos so microscopic? Is your cell phone from 2004? $500 is a really fair price for that truck, 92 Elim in green, one of the best combos IMHO. I'm surprised he didn't take $500. Yeah if it was 4x4 it would be worth more. Coolant dripping, not a super uncommon problem and not a real expensive fix either. Valve cover drenched with oil, they all are that way. Engine bay not clean since new, extremely common. No headliner, not uncommon for it to be gone, drooping, or "pinned" up kind of in place. Many of those issues are common or easy fixes. The rust less-so. Hopefully someone saves this and drives it, I'd hate to see a 92 green Elim be used for parts.

There was a discussion on this exact topic last week, those are both crappy in terms of fitment, do not buy C2C.

This is the only thread that comes to mind for me, fabbed and looks OEM. http://comancheclub.com/topic/41835-built-a-new-stock-bumper/

Ultimately this is what I'm hoping to get, something like this (full rocker & corner):

OK, time to bump this thread back up. Looking for rust free cab corners and rockers.

grille swap maybe and painting it
91Pioneer replied to redwolf624's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
You shoulda grabbed that rare upside-down grille . :MJ 1: . -
My vote is middle angle. But, to be on the safe side, do the longest cut (bottom one) first. Then if you don't like it you could cut a bit more to do the middle one, then upper one. I would not consider the upper cut, it would look funny IMHO. Did putting the boards in the seat help a lot or does it feel "hard" when you're sitting? I'm thinking of doing something similar.

Hit up a junkyard

Price is between you and him, every time price comes up here people tell you how every truck is overpriced. I've had an 88 with oil leaks, they're all fixable. The valve cover is the first one, get the PermaDry gasket: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000C2APC4/

Tap n talk, LOL. It's Tapatalk. I run a few auto forums, and the first thing I do is disable that banner that pushes the app on you. I suggest we do the same here, as the mobile version of this forum is actually really nice anyway.
