  1. Looks like a quality piece! I paid way more than that for a mint condition OEM one.
  2. UPDATE: Nearly 6 months later and my buddy sold me his Niva. I am now the proud owner of a broken 97 Niva. It's a beaut Clark. It was parked for over 10 years so needs everything that goes along with that... I need a clutch reservoir cap for it. Will probably need more things soon too. I have the alternator, axle, bumper end caps, and some other bits. I'm having a hard time finding an oil filter, RockAuto isn't very useful for these things. Do you want to sell me one of your homemade hand cranks? I know already I need to crank it over by hand and see if the engine still turns before using the starter motor.
  3. I searched to try and figure it out myself. It appears to be this skyjacker 4.5" lift - https://skyjacker.com/shop/jeep/dual-rate-long-travel-xj-mj/jc455kblt-4-5-in-front-dual-rate-long-travel-coil-suspension-kit-with-rear-add-a-leafs-and-black-max-shocks/#kor_gamma_woocommerce_tabs|0 It also has oversized tires which helps lift things a bit too.
  4. FYI I bought this truck from Streetside Classics out of Florida and had it shipped to me up here in Canada. Beautiful truck, it needed some work - leaking fuel injector, non-working park brake, leaking wiper washer fluid hose, missing bed bolts, intermittent wipers didn't work, replaced shifter base and all 3 boots, flushed heater core, replaced thermostat, replaced the electric fan, flushed entire cooling system later. Plus extra work to pass inspection - park brake cables, upper ball joints, DRLs added, rear mud flaps, removed front door tint. The paint isn't the best up close (lots of nibs) but it sure is shiny. I added the hood struts, blower motor ground wire, put in correctly sized fuses, oil change, tail gate rubbers, replaced alternator, positive battery cable, and some more things I'm sure I'm forgetting. Not low mileage and not cheap but I have been dreaming about a short box red rust free 4.0 manual MJ and this was the closest to my dream truck, I plan on removing the lift kit and am debating about putting on the newer Eliminator decals since I like them better.
  5. I see about 2-3 per year, not including the 2 that I own and the 1 my son owns.

    MJ shackles

    I only need one pair.
  8. Does anyone have some mint shape grey carpet floor mats? Prefer OEM with the Jeep logo, would consider other options.

    MJ shackles

Does anyone have MJ shackles? The nicer condition the better? Don't want the shorter XJ ones.
  13. I went this week and got the left rear axle. The brake drums were seized on there so I unbolted the hub and knocked it out that way. It's a shame that is in the junkyard it's in overall fantastic basically rust free shape. The decal on the hatch shows it was sold by Matrix Lada in Regina and now it's met its demise. It has been a local vehicle it's entire life, I'd bet.
  14. It turns out my buddy needs a left rear axle shaft and he's not sure what else off-hand, it's been sitting a few years He sent me a few photos, they are such cool rigs. Of course I then went to YouTube to see Nivas and found a guy that is fixing his up currently, username PLUKI 4X4 I have lost so much motivation to work on car projects this year I'm hoping any future vehicle is nearly done, like 95%+ done not needed much work at all.
  15. Thanks for the info.
  16. So.... it sounds like I can just cut down the existing factory bump stops??
  17. A buddy of mine has a Lada Niva, I haven't seen it yet. He said he was offloading it, got it stuck, and then broke a driveshaft when trying to get it out. I'm not sure how many years ago that was but it's been sitting for years now. I've been bugging him to fix it and sell it to me LOL. Do you have any Niva parts? Do you want to sell your Niva to me? I'm ready for a challenge LOL. I can't even remember the last time I saw a Lada on the road, I'd say it was in the 90's....! My understanding is that as Canadians we can import cars that are 15 years old. Do you know if there is some place I can buy a 15 year old Lada in Canada that's already been imported?
  18. Do you happen to have a part number for the bump stops? I know, older thread. But I'm looking to lower my 2WD MJ and am researching parts now.
  19. They want $750 for the trans. Wow they really put a damper on this. $2,100 for the used junkyard parts to switch to 4WD with no labour. Ouch.
  20. I found a parts XJ but the junkyard thinks it's gold IMHO. $150 front driveshaft, $450 transfer case, $750 for front axle. I still need trans too. It's adding up too fast. I'm not sure I can do all the work DIY so I might wind up paying $150/hr to the mechanic for some parts? Not sure yet but it's getting expensive for me, I will probably piece all this together and shop around to find better deals. We pulled the trans from my son's 87 MJ (manual trans 2WD) I've done it before but I prefer smaller jobs that aren't so heavy LOL - I bought a trans jack from Harbor Freight just for this job (much cheaper than P-Auto version of the same thing).
  21. I removed the driver one on my 89 and now I have a lot more wind noise. My door shuts badly so I took it off to see if it was causing the door closing issue, it was not. If I was you I'd grab one from the junkyard because it will be very cheap and if it's in good shape it's reusable. You could put some 2-sided tape on the back and use plastic rivets in the holes to put it back on if you want to be like the factory. Well that's how it was attached on mine.
  22. Hmm so it's not as easy as swapping the tail housing, that sucks because it just adds more cost and complexity. I will think about that as I start to buy parts...
  23. Now that there are 3 MJ's in the household I am considering more seriously to convert my 91 to 4WD. It's currently 4.0L Auto (AW4) RWD short box.... I have found a 1991 parts XJ and I was thinking I just need the transfer case (plus extras like driveshaft/diff) but after looking at my trans I *think* I may need to replace the transmission to convert to 4WD. Do I need to get a 4WD AW4 in order to convert to 4WD or can I bolt the transfer case to my existing 2WD trans? More unrelated questions to follow I'm sure but for now I'm assembling the parts list. I want to stick with auto since my mint condition 89 is a manual. I plan on going with the 242 transfer case in my 91 so I can just leave it in 4WD auto all winter long. One other quick question, are my stock rear gears 3.55:1 ratio? The parts XJ has 3.55 gears up front.
  24. There are sensors in the A/C system so I think if the A/C compressor isn't running then there's no need for the e-fan to run... I can't say 100% because my A/C works.
  25. The e-fan needs to come on with the A/C, that fan is for A/C operation (condenser) it's not for engine cooling at that point. Does it still come on with the A/C now that you made the change?
