Underbody coating for rust protection
91Pioneer replied to indreland's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Is it pretty rusty now? If not really, then POR15 is the wrong product. Use Fluid Film or something like that. An oil based rust proofing treatment is my #1 choice if it's not bad. Even light surface rust is fine for FF. If it's slightly rusty, POR15 is a good idea. Hint, the POR stands for Paint Over Rust. If it's extremely rusty (holes), fix the holes first, than POR15 :) -
Brake Upgrade - junkyard or buy new?

I do. Long story but I actually have a spare spacer too :) -
Brake Upgrade - junkyard or buy new?
91Pioneer replied to RochesterMJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
The booster on my 91 has failed. Brake pedal is harder to push but totally works. Obvious the booster had a fluid leak at some point in it's life (or the master leaking onto the booster, technically), the paint is gone and rusty. I have a 96 XJ one sitting there waiting for me to get off my lazy butt and swap in there. -
Manual trans flush
91Pioneer replied to ftpiercecracker1's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I did a drain and refill with my BA10 with horrible nasty (possibly original) fluid in it, I didn't bother flushing it. It felt a lot smoother after it was done. Flushing it probably is not necessary but if you are going to do it, if I was you, I'd just refill with cheap stuff, drive it for a week, then drain it and put the good stuff in there. -
Temporary Exhaust Repair/Patch
91Pioneer replied to 88mjblue's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I bought and used this on my 88 to temp patch the crack in the exhaust manifold. It will work, but only temporarily. And follow the instructions to a "T". http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0084AA2LK/ -
I really like Eagles, my grandma had two when I was young and impressionable. I rode in the back seat of them for many years on various trips/outings. This almost gives me a stiffy:

I saw one of those on eBay recently.

BEAUTIFUL red Eliminator on Ebay
91Pioneer replied to relyt120's topic in Craigslist/eBay... i.e. Not Your Stuff
I got bit by that. I found it difficult to determine the total fees for selling something at the time, and I recently sold an item and then got a big surprise when the final fee was $37! I lost money on that item 'cause the shipping also costed more than I charged. I hardly sell on eBay anymore because of the fees (and shipping charges have gone way, way up in the last year or two - in Canada). -
BEAUTIFUL red Eliminator on Ebay

Unless you bought it, you are making that up. When I look at the auciton it says: "This listing was ended by the seller because the item is no longer available.". I didn't pick the truck apart at all, it's a sweet truck and worth that. -

Very nice, auction was ended though, must have sold locally or something. -
I have a set of those pads from eBay just waiting to go on. I would recommend you paint the leafs (leaves?) before you install the pad so they really look new, that's my plan (well just painting and putting new pads on) ;)

Making The Thunderbird Great Again

Mine is at home now but I bought a new car so haven't driven it in a while. I'm thinking about selling it. -
Cheapo headliner solution
91Pioneer replied to Dadinator's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Personally I prefer the OEM look so I wouldn't do it, but it looks great, good job! -
They're Dorman parts, look them up at http://www.dormanproducts.com and you can find them at a lot more places. Amazon, eBay, RockAuto, etc.

Needs to look more stock/sleeper IMHO but I bet it would be a wild ride. Very unique.

I like the color. As for everything else... meh.

Part # for for door jamb light switch
91Pioneer replied to Incommando's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Do what I do, grab a used one from the junkyard from a back door on an XJ. The back door is used much less than the front doors ;) Yep, my 88 had a single blade terminal, my 91 has those 3 pins terminal thingy. -
Awesome!

Wow, I haven't updated in a while. I've replaced the fuel filter, retorqued the LF wheel bearing, replaced the drivers door pin switch, removed two extra body moldings, attached a Dorman shift knob, and just today received my new leaf spring anti-squeak pads. Bad news is I discovered a broken front spring today, so that might explain why it's a little rough. Now for fresh pics:

Leaf spring & shackle bushings - choices
91Pioneer replied to 91Pioneer's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
OK. I will have to check with Napa about the shackle bushings. I looked at RockAuto, Amazon, Summit and eBay and did not see anything but poly for those.
