smokey cab, where can it be coming from?
dasbulliwagen replied to lostissues's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
If the fan was off, the resistor should not have gotten hot at all, I thought that too, but then he said the fan was off. I can't see the heater core getting hot enough to smoulder mouse house stuff either, but who knows.... definitely need to clean out what you can from the housing. Remove the fan and see what you find. When I swapped HVAC housings in my truck to add AC I had to remove all kinds of crap. If you can't get rid of the smell, that may be your only option (to pull the dash, remove the housing, and open it up to clean it out). Good luck. OH and buy a good fire extinguisher! -
Ralph Nader??? Theres a name that could go away.

It would be easy for me to tell you to just not drink, but then again, I myself just don't like it that much. If you do like it, like I assume you do, then its much more difficult than that. All I know from what Ive seen others do in the past, is that you have to want sobriety bad enough to make yourself want to quit. If you don't want it bad enough, it isnt going to work. Your priorities have to be in the right place, and your willpower has to be strong enough to be able to tell you you don't need it. And think of all the money youll not be spending on alcohol that you could put right into your MJ! Though that doesnt always work either... I don't really drink, and I still don't have money for the MJ! And by "don't really drink" I mean I don't drink to get drunk, and I rarely have any beer in the house, and usually if I do, it goes bad before I have the want to drink any. A couple of drinks while out to dinner is all I need or want usually. And no hard stuff....just don't need it. I wish you all the luck in the world with this, and hope you reach your goals.

My sister called me one day asking me about changing her stratus back over from synth to dino, as the quickie oil change place had told her and who knows how many other people that the engine needed to be flushed out before she could change oil types (she was trying to save money). I told her all those oils were perfectly interchangable and could be mixed, and that she didnt need to spend$79.95 to have her engine flushed. Bunch of frickin rip off artists they are. Taking advantage of peoples ignorance on the subject. Its just wrong. MIX IT!

31"s fit under no lift with no rub?
dasbulliwagen replied to case5412's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I feel special being called a smart guy. Thank you, there arent many people whove ever said that to me. I'm just trying to help out. There are a few grumpy old bastards on here (no offense guys) that don't take the lack of info very well. The more info we have the better we can help you... thats all.... just makes sense. And I agree that the 30" tires would be much better. You may still get some rub with them as well. You could swap your lower control arms for WJ grand cherokee ones, or adjust the stops as mentioned. I scored a free set of 235's off of a wrangler because they didnt like the rubbing, but they don't rub on my 2wd MJ. The rubbing won't hurt anything, all the ones Ive seen do this barely show any marks on the tire from where this happens, its just a bad sounding annoyance. Good luck with your build, and keep us updated! -
Project "Grandpa Jeep" (the anti-build)
dasbulliwagen replied to jpnjim's topic in Member Projects: Your Comanches
don't forget to add the 1" reflector tape stripes down each side, and across the front and rear bumpers! ( Ive actually seen a grandpa truck done like that before! ) -
The madness continues.......$10k MJ on eBay
dasbulliwagen replied to WahooSteeler's topic in The Pub
Did some research... with the options on it, looks like it might have been an Eliminator... floor shifter, cargo light, lighted visors...etc. Was the eliminator available 2wd? -

Was auto with a floor shifter ever stock on a Comanche? Ive never seen one. And lighted vanity mirror visor???? I looked up the VIN through chrysler, it shows up, but the options list doesnt come up. Theyre really laying it on thick in that ad though! WOW. -

If I was them, I think I would have omitted the picture of the missing cat converter. "Rediscover trust!" FUNNY! -
Lightweight Flywheel?
dasbulliwagen replied to Craft86MJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I would only do a lightened flywheel if I was racing it, otherwise its not very beneficial in real world driving. Especially in a Jeep where you want to keep some low end torque, a lighter flywheel would ruin that. -
Interesting for 2.5-2.8 owners
dasbulliwagen replied to dasbulliwagen's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I forgot to mention, the PT cruiser fan assy comes with 2 relays mounted to the housing already. The fan plugs into the relays, and the relay harness has one connector that connects to the body harness. So if you had the whole harness, it would make a fairly easy wire up I think. -
Noticed recently that the electric cooling fan assy from a PT Cruiser is similar in size to the 2.5-2.8 radiator. Decided this morning to actually see if they would go together.... they are almost exactly the same size. With some trimming and creative mounting I'm sure it would be a fairly easy conversion. You would need a fan controller, and need to find out which wire is for the high speed fan, as this is a 2 speed fan, but otherwise might be a good option for those who would like to pick up a couple of ponies on their asthmatic engines. The low speed part could even be wired with a relay and dash switch, as it is the one used most of the time anyways... at least while the ac is on, or have it wired seperately to the ac if you have it, and the main controller wired to the high speed fan. Just thought Id throw this out there. The only thing I havent looked at with this is fan to water pump clearance, but it looks like it should fit judging by what I did to mine with the WJ fan I adapted.

This style wheel did not come stock on any 1986 Comanche. The premium aluminum wheel for 1986 was the 10 spoke. All of the other wheels that were available in 1986 were steel. I hope this info helps. Those same wheels were stock on my boss's 88 MJ Olympic edition, so maybe they were swapped onto my 86???? you never know, but I think we can agree, that black interior was not available after the 87 model year... unless it was swapped too. You never know what happens in a vehicles past.
-
To expand your search, you should also look at the Camoro 3.1 as well. They were out before the 3.4, and will work just the same. Good luck.
-
try unlocking the hatch door with the key, it might turn it off that way too, assuming the doorr switches are bad... seen it before.
-
Sportruck was available in 87, and 87 was last year for black interior. That steering wheel was base model wheel.... the interior is exactly like my 87 sportruck wheel and all, though I'm not sure about the wheels. I know those wheels were stock on my 86 Comanche X, so it is possible they were original, though Ive never heard of a sportruck limited.... maybe thats where the wheels come in?

'74(ish) VW Dune Buggy Build
dasbulliwagen replied to neohic's topic in Member Projects: Other Cool Stuff
Know what that engine needs???? DUAL WEBER 48 IDA'S!!!! -
They arent common???? There are twenty people on here at any one time that would love to get rid of their bench's and go to buckets, and if you don't have the gap in the middle the seat won't adjust. As for size.... its sized to fit the truck... what else do you want? If going custom, go for the Dakota swap, its a 60/40 split, you can solid mount the pass side so as not to interfere with the shifter and have adjustment for the driver. You need to be more specific when asking stuff here. it will help greatly for us to understand your needs. You just asked for a bench, you didnt say the mounting was screwed up... so easiest answer is MJ bench. I'm sorry if I sound like an azz, but its not always easy to understand what youre looking for without more specifics... that goes for everyone. We are here to help, and this place can be a tremendous resource, but we're not mind readers...sorry.

...another 'Chrysler might build a pick-up truck' story
dasbulliwagen replied to robfg67's topic in The Pub
I agree on the pricing, that if it is truly more of a compact pickup, it should be priced as such.... but knowing Chrysler, and knowing how Jeeps are priced, I pretty much know that this will not happen. And that is what will keep sales low, and what will make Chrysler think that there is no market for such a vehicle. If built it will probably have the 3.8 as they are trying to run out their contract for building that engine so that they can do away with it and put in the new Pentastar engine.... and if tuned like the one Ive driven in the new Grand Cherokee.... its gutless below 3000rpm.... will make it worthless for the trail anyways. So its probably doomed from the start. -
Everything will bolt over with a few little mods, but the seat mounts are different. If you have buckets already, the new XJ seats should be able to mount to your MJ seat frames, but if you have a bench it will be a bit more difficult.... but not impossible. The dash harness and HVAC housing will also have to be swapped, and youll need to modify the wiring for the tailights, also need to figure out the fuel sender as the newer ones are backwards of the older ones, and I'm not sure about the pump pressure... you might be OK there. I'm assuming your MJ is a 4.0 already, but if not, then youll also need to swap over the radiator core support assy. And youll want to take advantage of the dual booster brakes and swap out the master/booster assy too. A lot of work, but doable. Good luck!

Why not use an MJ bench?

This would be cool, but I like the Nukizer concept better.... more of a real truck. -
what extended brake lines are good?
dasbulliwagen replied to SW86's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I put a whole set of ones that would have gone on a YJ wrangler. The fronts are a lot longer, and the rear is longer too, though maybe not as long as one from a durango. Good luck.
