Our neighbor who was my babysitter while my folks were working had one in the late 60’s early 70’s. I was about 5 or so. When they retired it they bought an orange second gen VW microbus. A whole bunch of could pile into that.

4.0 HO’s couldn’t have been to bad. I had 4 with over 300k on them and a fourth with 450k. Non of them ever had the oil pan or valve cover off and only things replaced on them were water pumps, alternators and starters. The 450k one was still running and driving when l scrapped it because it was so rotten. I still wish I kept the drivetrain to put in something else.

That’s what my thoughts were too. Fred and Dave are great guys that I met on Ultimate Adventure 2018 along with a bunch of other good people. They probably are relieved too so that they can get on with their lives.

Anyone around you have a spare narrow track CJ axle you can borrow? Maybe even one from a junk yard? All it has to do is be able to roll and be able to be bolted in.

When someone says they are an engineer, I ask Weapons or Targets? Mechanical or Civil Engineers.

No tailgate, saginaw column, power booster looks right for an AMC and it looks like a longer front end.

Finally spotted one on the highway pulled over near a construction site. Red short bed was all l could tell at 70mph.

Just write a bill of sale matching whatever is on the title. I’ve registered all kinds of sketchy paperwork.

It’s all in the gearing, if you had a set of 4.10’s in it you would be sailing up the hills. When l was dragging the VW back the only hill that slowed us down on 81 was the one between Pine Grove and Rausch Creek. Wowned out in third gear.

What style are you talking about? The ones that look like they came off a 79 F150 or the ones that came on every XJ except absolute base models?

Or better yet a L33 5.3

I want the AMX to drop my 4.0 HO into. Just need to find a 2wd AX15 or AW4.

I dollied this from Knoxville TN to CT on I-81-I-84 at 50-55 mph. The only trouble l see is if you’re towing with a Comanche is the lightness in the rear. If you could get the weight distribution closer to 50-50 I think it would be safer. But that’s my uneducated opinion. I towed a short bed MJ during a rain storm and it pushed me sideways going around a tight down hill corner in torrential rain. I was able to steer out of it but it was real close.

I flat towed a comanche from Virginia to Connecticut on I-95 with no plates on it on Labor day weekend through New Jersey. I couldn’t go faster than 40 mph the whole way because the truck didn’t have a drivetrain in it and would start death wobbling at 41 mph. l pulled it with a lifted XJ, l got passed by several troopers who never even slowed down. There were no plates on the towed vehicle.
