  1. Sometimes it’s better not knowing.
  2. I banged my 98 XJ 4.0 off the rev limiter constantly for the last 240k of it’s 453k miles. I think it still leaked more than it burned ever. It was quiet right up to the end when l shipped it to the knackers. l drove all my 4.0’s the same way and never had a problem. Always used Castrol 10/30 mostly sometimes 10/40 if it was a hot summer. Either in the white, green or black syntec. Depending on how flush l was at the time. Always Castrol though. I’ve never lost an engine in 40 years. The chassis’s always wore out first and they almost always were high mileage used vehicles. Keep oil and coolant in it and it’ll treat you well.
  3. I’ve almost always use Castrol 10/30 or 10/40 in my 4.0’s and 2.5’s. Never had to have an engine apart. Three with over 300k and one with over 450.
  4. That’s a Super Bugger, they were actually made in the early 70’s by an outfit in California.
  5. If the transmission is split the long way in halves it’s a Peugeot BA/10. If they rebuilt that they polished a turd. If it looks like they stood it on it’s bellhousing and stacked it it’s an Aisin-Warner AX-15. Which is a decent transmission.
  6. Those mid to late 70’s Fords had generous crumple zones in the front.
  7. My sister bought a Mustang ll in 1974, she drove it for 4 years and wrecked it in 1978. She got what she paid for it. That’s because 4 cylinder economy cars were scarce and there was a gas crisis. Basically a notch back Pinto with a trunk.
  8. I’d say you did pretty good.
  9. ZJ axle will work, it’ll come with the bigger Ujoints too because it probably will have abs. It has a trailer hitch too so a good chance of having a D44.
  10. That’s a nice looking two tone XJ.
  11. It does look better than a home made bed would. But it doesn’t look good.
  12. Dana 44 and factory skid plate for the fuel tank.
  13. Bucket Brigade
  14. Turf Liver or Tongue?
  15. Most likely that was a free boat and that’s all they could come up with to haul it.
  16. Whole Canoe or rowboat
  17. Sourdough Mountains or Lowlands?
  18. I might still have the correct taillights for it.
  19. There’s a good chance that has a Dana 44 rear. It may have the factory tow package. I had a few that I either scrapped because they were beyond repair with heavy rust or I had a spare 35 and put it in and sold it while keeping the axle.
  20. I’d love to find another HO at the price l paid for the last 2. $200 and $400.
  21. Yes! Please do!
  22. As it sits now my 05 Mazda 6 wagon can haul longer items than the Maverick can. I can carry 8 ft long lumber inside the car. Not a lot, but enough for most any project l need to do on my house. I even put 4 12 foot trim boards out through the passenger side window.
  23. Theoretically it should be much cheaper than a ranger. I just want a bare bones two door fwd hybrid with the NA 2.5. Should be under 22k. The Rangers start at 27k. Also the fwd Maverick is capable of nearly 40 mpg. Not so much the Ranger.
  24. Now if the would just make a two door the same length with a somewhat useful bed I’d be interested.
  25. Dana 30 High Pinion is front axle.
