  1. the motor mounts unbolt from the frame.
  2. the stock intake and exhaust (except for the muffler) on our trucks is actually fairly decent. I would do them after gears. I run 4.10s because that's the lowest factory ratio I could get in the ford 1/2 ton axles. they are ok, but I'd like 4.88s. engine and trans matter too when considering ratios and I have the 4.0/stick.
  3. If the rust is integral to the body, fix it. if it unbolts, replace it. a new tailgate from down south or out west should clear that up quite well. :D
  4. or at least the one behind it. :fs2:
  5. its only a "cold air" if you can separate the incoming air from the hot engine bay air. otherwise there really isn't much improvement over stock. re-gearing is the best bang for your buck if you're looking for some performance gains. especially if you're running bigger tires.
  6. the SCCA MJs had the 2.5l in them (there was an engine size restriction) and the Archer brothers absolutely DOMINATED the competition, frequently coming into 1-2 in races.
  7. 2' pucks would work too if you like those coils. what do you have for the rest of the front suspension?
  8. soa nets 6" above your current height. the better shape your springs are in, the more lift you need in the front to match. 2wd leafs are a bit shorter than 4wd packs, or you can mix and match with XJ or Explorer leafs to get a shorter overall lift. be sure to use new hardware to reassemble the pack, and make sure the main leaf is properly supported. (personally I would try a full XJ pack, with the eyes cut off, put under an MJ main and go from there) what perches did you go with? got pics of that area with the leafs on top?
  9. grand cherokees make for poor donors. 3.55s are common because 4.0l/autos were common. rules of thumb for 87+: 4.0+auto = 3.55 4.0+stick = 3.07 2.5+5spd = 4.10 2.5L+4spd = 3.55 2.5L+auto = 4.56 86 MJs and 84-85 XJs could pretty much have anything. gotta check them to be sure.
  10. durangos had a dana 44?? :hmm: I thought they used a chrysler axle. either way the bolt pattern would be wrong. try to find an 8.25 that's 97+ (or is is 96+?). they are about as strong as a dana 44.
  11. are you sure you're feeling the ujoints? or are you feeling the binding in the t-case? the t-case only allows for so much differentiation. If the ujoints were binding, I'd think they would do it in 2wd too. :dunno:
  12. CV joints sound like one of those things that's technically better than ujoints, but I have to ask myself, will I really be able to tell a difference in any way shape or form? :dunno: I can't say I've ever noticed my front ujoints.
  13. there are writeups on the internet somewhere. although technically, altering the odo yourself is kinda against the law. you can take it to a repair shop and they should be able to alter it (and give you the proper paperwork). my brain is telling me you might be able to get it done for as low as 20 bucks. doesn't hurt to ask around and see what the rates are in your neck of the woods.
  14. that looks like a fun toy for sure.
  15. if you are using an 87-89 renix harness, you can also try cleaning up the C-101 connector: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=33217
  16. I do believe the carb was used on non-US MJs. which doesn't have much bearing on the OP's question. could be your fuel pump dying.
  17. wait a sec, I don't see any photos of your comanche swag? :hmm:
  18. yup. the AX-4 and AX-5 (the ones found behind the 2.5L) are identical on the outside.
  19. all of those thongs are just bandaids on a weak axle. will it help? maybe. should you leave it alone and start looking for a better axle? definitely. :D there are plenty of better axles out there. I would find one of those and sink my effort into it instead of a d35.
  20. pretty much, yes. any year XJ/MJ will work for ya. the only hiccup is the rear driveshaft and most of us get our 2wd shortened to length. try to get only 2.5L/5spd rigs, as they should have 4.10 gears in the axles. and verify those gears before buying a whole jeep.
  21. viewtopic.php?f=9&t=18415
  22. does it sputter and die? or cut out as if you turned it off?
  23. anything could fail. usually it's axle shafts. mine started spitting out ring gear teeth. can also bend the housing into a smile.
