finding a full cluster for a 4banger can be very challenging. but it honestly only affects the tach. if you can't find one, send me a message, I've got a couple 6cyl versions.

these are old trucks. even when new they made a lot more noises than modern cars. try finding a local Jeeper that can swing by and lend an ear.

very common problem. any time the truck is lifted up in the air there's a chance for the little arms to bend the wrong way when it's put down on the ground. seems like a spring should have been used to prevent that.

there are several V8 swapped trucks in the Hardcore Tech subforum.

I'd just plan on getting a new driveshaft made. it'll be stronger and exactly the right length.

answer: less screwed than I thought. the shorter one is the column shift, the longer one is from the 4wd trans that's eventually going into the truck. ends are close enough to be the same. just gotta figure out a path for the long cable and then somehow plug up the firewall.
