another con that applies to rusty rigs is that the weld between the sheetmetal and tube tends to rust, weaken and split apart after a while, especially if the backside of the weld inside the Jeep isn't painted or otherwise treated. not a deal breaker, but important to keep an eye on. I almost went this way with my 88 but decided to a more traditional rocker guard welded to the frame after realizing I had very little clean metal to weld to in the rocker area.

in my opinion the light is completely irrelevant since there's a giant handle next to my knee that tells me what I'm shifted into. just be sure you don't have any vacuum leaks and you're good to go.

I replaced that rubber cone plug with a generic plug/grommet and haven't had any leaks since.

what a weird year to change a plug.

according to random ebay ad the bigger one is 90-96. (part # 56004406) If true, I assume the smaller plug is 84-89?

anyone know why are the brackets different heights? found in my boxes of stuff and so I can't verify they are from the same rig.

finding a full cluster for a 4banger can be very challenging. but it honestly only affects the tach. if you can't find one, send me a message, I've got a couple 6cyl versions.

these are old trucks. even when new they made a lot more noises than modern cars. try finding a local Jeeper that can swing by and lend an ear.

very common problem. any time the truck is lifted up in the air there's a chance for the little arms to bend the wrong way when it's put down on the ground. seems like a spring should have been used to prevent that.
