  1. have patience. it will be fully opened once everyone is comfortable with what's going on.
  2. Jeeps don't need to be monotone I love it!
  3. well, the good news is that you should do all those things anyways, so nothing is lost if you later change your mind.
  4. oh, and I've restricted members from starting new threads for the time being, but anyone can reply to the threads that mods create. I wanted to give our new mods a chance to familiarize themselves with the software and iron out how they would like to handle things before jumping in with both feet.
  5. I'm not a fan of its overuse in slang either. I actually choose the name because of the original definition. reading through a big build is like reading about an epic journey with trials and tribulations, ups and downs, and (hopefully) a final triumphant victory at the end (sorta, since we know Jeeps are never really "finished"). But I expect there will be a combination of project threads, simpler tech threads, and questions about doing the hardcore things. More free-flow than just build threads. and all writeups will of course be cross referenced into the DIY checklist. to me "hardcore" is used on too many forums. "custom" doesn't quite fit. besides, there is more than one definition to go with Epic 3. heroic; majestic; impressively great plus I'm a fan of alliteration
  6. I totally agree, but I'm not the gate keeper. Dan and Nate have agreed to mod the new forum. it's more or less up to that which way it goes.
  7. you prose is decent, buuuuuut I think we'll go with the first one. we're still working on the details, but more or less the fun trail-blazing stuff. I'd say pretty much everything above an 8.8 swap.
  8. if you've ever swapped a v8 or diesel into an MJ, the journey is indeed epic
  9. a new comanche should have no problem towing 3k pounds of car/dolly if the dolly has brakes. yours isn't new, so I'd suggest lots of test driving so you can feel comfortable that it'll make the trip. especially the brakes. they need to be in tip-top shape. I like rust free cars as much as the next guy, I'm just not willing to risk my life for them.
  10. had a conversation with Pat about jeeps and stuff and he alllllmost has me convinced to just buy a local GA rust free body and swap things over. She's not in all that bad of shape for a MI rig (I've seen plenty of rotted KJs up there), but man some of that underbody is ugly. Maybe I'll just leave it as is and have that as a backup plan should something bad happen. on the other hand, rust free is rust free...

  12. with enough rear bumper, who needs rear visibility? I certainly don't.
  13. we used uship.com a few years back to get the z-28 down to GA. was completely uneventful aside from jitters of watching some stranger drive our baby backwards up a big car-hauler. cost about the same as when I fetched my MJ and I didn't have to risk my life towing in the snow to do it! (uhaul trailers and snow is not a safe combo)
  14. buy-it-now of $60 or best offer https://www.ebay.com/itm/Stetson-Comanche-Custom-Cowboy-Hat/292464756592?hash=item4418420770:g:o9cAAOSwSS5alPR9 (and no it''s not mine)
  15. the amount of gasses coming out of that hose pale in comparison to the huge amount of cold air being sucked into the throttle body so I doubt there's a direct connection. maybe the thermostat went bad?
  16. we'd like to give credit to him for collecting up some great data. I think his name might be Ken? https://jeepcomanche.blogspot.com/
  17. pictures? you can't go claiming you have one of the most "80s" of 80s trucks without sharing pictures for us to drool over! better yet, start yourself a build thread and share TONS of pictures of your rare bird.
  18. did you run a fresh ground for that test?

    name that part 2

it's a bolt-on hamster cage. it's where you stash a couple extra squirrels to help your jeep out.
  20. the ballast resistor is bypassed by the computer at startup so that the pump will see full voltage for cranking. after a couple seconds of running it'll switch to resistor-only and carries on like that 'til shutoff.

    Starman:

well, depending on whose calculations are right, we may well see it again. or it might crash into venus. who knows.
  22. the pump grounds right behind the dr side taillight so it might be worth while to clean it.
  23. what about using a tablet and hanging it off the front part of the dash lip? (essentially hanging it in front of the radio and heater controls but it a way that they are easily accessed)
