  1. you can bolt in the regular MJ ones or even late model XJ ones (which are bigger). if you do that, I'd love to have the little caps that are currently there.
  2. oh great... I retract that previous statement. now I want to build a front wheel drive truck.
  3. no apologies necessary. we all started at the bottom rung of knowledge. can you snap a pic of the 20?
  4. is the 25th a lesser alternative or simply not possible? I would have to do this on the way up or the way back from michigan and the 25th would already means an extra week in MI. having said all that, if my grandmother's heath drops just a small amount, but not enough for a nursing home, I'll likely just be up there with her for a lot longer than a few weeks and then need to figure out driving from MI to the badlands and back to MI and then all weekends are the same to me (except sept 8th).
  5. tree or rock? I've got plans to add a bed rail and steel fender flares, but protecting the doors is still a mystery to me (without going full cage on them)
  6. so far all I know is I arrive on the 14th.
  7. I am unavailable for the weekend of sept 8th, but could probably squeeze it in the 2 weekends before it or the 2 weekends after it.
  8. nope. but the way the database is set up, it's not hard to see all 20 in a row with posts counts.
  9. all has returned to normal. as I said, it was an experiment just to see what would happen.
  10. guest permissions have all been returned to normal so the spiders can feast on our tech. as a side note, over 20 people signed up in the last 24 hours as compared to less than 10 for the entire week previous.
  11. at no point in my life have I ever thought to myself, "self, you know what I wish we could buy, a front wheel drive pickup truck". you win the "weirdest mashup" contest for today. hands down. with a 455 pulling it along, I bet it's a blast to drive.
  12. the dana 30 is a decent axle and can live with 35s assuming you build it right. that usually means expensive shafts, joints, and maybe a truss thrown in. all depends on how crazy your offroad excursions will get.
  13. welcome to the addiction!
  14. I split off this discussion and gave it a title to clean up the original topic. anywho, back to v8s. yes LS swaps have been done before, but it is still pretty dang hardcore for the vast majority of owners. the way I see it, if we hold the bar too high there would only ever be a handful of entries. an 8.8 swap would definitely be regular tech. a 6bt diesel swap would definitely be hardcore. the line between is... fuzzy at best.
  15. wellllll, the 8.25 wasn't available as a front, so that would be a huge task in itself.
  16. the "guest" issue is... complicated for sure. there's no doubt our forum suffers from aspects of what I'm going to call, niche-ness. We're so focused on one thing that it tends to only attract the diehards for daily conversation. There is a huge chunk of the traffic that is only here to search for an answer to their problem and then they are gone. I'm guilty of that for things like my friends/family's rides (I'm sure there are lots of nice people to chat with at the Ford forum, but I don't because there's not much I know about fords so I don't feel I can contribute). And when there's only a few daily posters, there can definitely be some group-think issues too. Or we can turn off some members with negativity or if they feel they are being ganged up on about a thing (cutting up a clean MJ for example). on the plus side there are a lot of problems we don't have that the big forums are struggling with so it's not all tiny-forum doom and gloom. We've modernized our software and opened up a new forum dedicated to the hardcore topics so hopefully this will spur some excitement and energy and get us on the right path to remain relevant and worthwhile in a world where forums themselves are fading. while we're on this topic, I'm starting a new experiment. Guest access is now limited to just a couple of the forums. I also opened up the "problems" forum to guest posting just in case someone is having trouble signing in. we'll see what happens.
  17. everybody calm down a bit. we're still feeling out what the epic tech should be. we're starting with a mishmash of project threads and question threads to see how it goes. maybe in the future we'll split them apart, but for right now it'll all be together.
  18. buying a whole donor can be a great way to get an engine.
  19. about the same for me! I only have to do the one way though as I'm helping my folks get their trailer out west for their trip and then I'm flying out of denver.
  20. edit: see last posts for updates! https://www.facebook.com/events/2075824452633033/ Looks like I'll be in the Denver area for the weekend of June 16th. Who wants to do what?
  21. same rules as the rest of the ComancheClub apply (be friendly, etc) with one addition: "No Whining!" (about what other people do to their trucks). Constructive criticism is always welcomed but let's keep the discussions to the tech at hand. For example, negative comments about cutting up good sheetmetal will simply be nixed from the thread. repeat offenders will be be nixed from the Epic Tech forum. This forum is about pushing the limits and having fun with the welder.
  22. fear no more. epic tech is now open and rule number one is "no whining! (about what other people do with their trucks)".
  23. just looking at those all those bits and pieces makes my soul hurt... brings back so many bad memories of rust and mud and broken springs and jammed drums and loose shoes and wasted money...
  24. after that I would look into the ZJ disk brakes. you couldn't pay me to run drums ever again.
