what all should be in this forum?
Pete M replied to JeepcoMJ's topic in MJ Hardcore Tech: Epic Journeys to Greatness
I split off this discussion and gave it a title to clean up the original topic. anywho, back to v8s. yes LS swaps have been done before, but it is still pretty dang hardcore for the vast majority of owners. the way I see it, if we hold the bar too high there would only ever be a handful of entries. an 8.8 swap would definitely be regular tech. a 6bt diesel swap would definitely be hardcore. the line between is... fuzzy at best. -
Issues and Recommendations

wellllll, the 8.25 wasn't available as a front, so that would be a huge task in itself. -

the "guest" issue is... complicated for sure. there's no doubt our forum suffers from aspects of what I'm going to call, niche-ness. We're so focused on one thing that it tends to only attract the diehards for daily conversation. There is a huge chunk of the traffic that is only here to search for an answer to their problem and then they are gone. I'm guilty of that for things like my friends/family's rides (I'm sure there are lots of nice people to chat with at the Ford forum, but I don't because there's not much I know about fords so I don't feel I can contribute). And when there's only a few daily posters, there can definitely be some group-think issues too. Or we can turn off some members with negativity or if they feel they are being ganged up on about a thing (cutting up a clean MJ for example). on the plus side there are a lot of problems we don't have that the big forums are struggling with so it's not all tiny-forum doom and gloom. We've modernized our software and opened up a new forum dedicated to the hardcore topics so hopefully this will spur some excitement and energy and get us on the right path to remain relevant and worthwhile in a world where forums themselves are fading. while we're on this topic, I'm starting a new experiment. Guest access is now limited to just a couple of the forums. I also opened up the "problems" forum to guest posting just in case someone is having trouble signing in. we'll see what happens. -

everybody calm down a bit. we're still feeling out what the epic tech should be. we're starting with a mishmash of project threads and question threads to see how it goes. maybe in the future we'll split them apart, but for right now it'll all be together. -
LS swap questions- yes, another one.

buying a whole donor can be a great way to get an engine. -
about the same for me! I only have to do the one way though as I'm helping my folks get their trailer out west for their trip and then I'm flying out of denver.

edit: see last posts for updates! https://www.facebook.com/events/2075824452633033/ Looks like I'll be in the Denver area for the weekend of June 16th. Who wants to do what?

same rules as the rest of the ComancheClub apply (be friendly, etc) with one addition: "No Whining!" (about what other people do to their trucks). Constructive criticism is always welcomed but let's keep the discussions to the tech at hand. For example, negative comments about cutting up good sheetmetal will simply be nixed from the thread. repeat offenders will be be nixed from the Epic Tech forum. This forum is about pushing the limits and having fun with the welder.

fear no more. epic tech is now open and rule number one is "no whining! (about what other people do with their trucks)". -
just looking at those all those bits and pieces makes my soul hurt... brings back so many bad memories of rust and mud and broken springs and jammed drums and loose shoes and wasted money...
-
after that I would look into the ZJ disk brakes. you couldn't pay me to run drums ever again.
-
the canister traps the stinky fumes that come out of the gas tank when it warms up and then lets the engine suck them in to be burned. without it there's a decent chance of your truck smelling like gas on warm days.

just got back in to town so I checked to make sure they were still there. they were.

Ebay MJ sold for $11.5K
Pete M replied to WahooSteeler's topic in Craigslist/Marketplace/eBay... i.e. Not Your Stuff
I'd wager that the tinfoil factory bumper got bent at some point and was replaced. -
somewhere in our archives is a guy who mounted a 90s ranger bed to his MJ. it was a while ago though.

Wanted: Epic threads.
Pete M replied to mnkyboy's topic in MJ Hardcore Tech: Epic Journeys to Greatness
we should be opening up the epic tech forum soon to new threads! probably this weekend. spread the word! -
what's the fuel pressure and flow look like? maybe a compression test ? my 88 is like that on the freeway these days and I know my compression numbers are low and blowby is pretty bad.
-
I too had a water pump wobble killing the belt, one rib at a time.
-
aside from the fact that 3.07s do indeed suck and should never have been installed in anything with J-e-e-p on the hood, it could certainly be a fuel flow issue or a clogged cat. or a sensor that is giving the wrong input. how well does it drive without the trailer?
