  1. well.... I guess it'll... um, keep the dust down? Hard finding a silver lining for that one. it sucks at least you can laugh at it.
  2. my Peugeot never left me stranded either! after it blew a hole out the side of the case and drained itself of fluid I was still able to drive 20 some miles home (although some gears made an ear splitting noise and eventually I was stuck in 3rd for the last few miles). 2wd and I was just cruising along at 45 in rush hour traffic at the time.

finally retired my old redtop optima this past fall. about 12 years of service (8 in various jeeps/cars and 4 in the lawn tractor). not bad for a blem I picked up at significant discount. too bad they don't seem to make them like they used to.

  6. stock shocks will be fine.
  7. stock trucks can have fun at the badlands. but I would suggest recovery points front/rear before getting too crazy.
  8. for a front axle, 3.73s are common in ZJs and TJs (as long as you're ok with a low pinion dana 30)
  9. another vote for the liberty here. the one under my '07 is actually a couple inches wider than stock MJ stuff and would help push the rear tires out to look "right".
  10. old trucks are just that, old. they need extra care (and money) to be all they can be. just a fact of life. the hope is that the fun times still outweigh the work. and that ratio can switch in a hurry after a couple particularly bad gut punches. You just need to endure. Remember that a lot of it is in your mind. dwelling on the negative can make bad things much worse. I try to focus on the positive side by planning the next mods. Upgrades are fun. Repairs are not. oh, did my alternator die? well clearly now I need a higher output one! is my t-case toast? Well let me tally up the upgrades I can do while it's out of the truck (wider chain, bigger gears, SYE, maybe a 242 instead?) Even if I never end up doing them, my brain maintains a level of excitement that doesn't come from boring repairs.
  11. I think they're going to need more cold patch for this particular pot hole...

    Starman:

skip to 21:40 for liftoff. booster landing was epic
  13. don't forget a relay harness too. (although I'm not sure if you need 2 of the ones in my sig or a different one)
  14. holy crap I forgot all about that aspect! last time I drove to CO I actually pulled off the freeway for 30 minutes to let the sun set because the road pointed exactly at the blinding orb.
  15. if you're on a 'puter there should be a "choose files" button right below your text box. there is a cap on the file size per pic (like 2 mb?). we're in the middle of writing code to auto-shrink things but it's taking longer than expected.
  16. well, that brings up another tidbit from my experience. for super-long drives by myself (it's 12 hours between GA and MI) I try reeeeal hard not to ever drive outside of my normal awake period. If I show up late at night, so be it. better than driving tired.

    Pitstop

great to see ya! as someone who has fought that fight, don't fold, take them to court. just make sure everything is plated/insured/and looks like it can drive.
  18. found some closeups:
  19. I've only seen a single design for the "comanche". not sure if they ever made a Cherokee or something like that.
  20. maybe something is leaking along the path, letting air into the system?
  21. once we get our photo-uploading code squared away, I think we need an official "jeep basics" thread for newbies.
  22. I'm envious. my stetson doesn't fit at all. I guess it's for the better though since it'll stay pristine. I guess.
  23. great game! close to the end. let's see how much of a class act the fans are to Philly. (I'm sure it'll be fine now that the cops have greased up the light poles with hydraulic fluid)
  24. don't worry 'bout it. you'll do fine. just break up the drive with stops and eat/drink well.
  25. yup. not my first rodeo. password reset and email sent.
