the trans will fit just fine. Not sure what Rusty's longarm lift requires though. The firewall might need some mods to fit the late model XJ's stuff, but that depends on how much of the XJ's stuff you're swapping. there are a few swap threads in the link in my sig. and welcome to the addiction

admittedly I'm measuring to the top of a "theoretically" (aka not yet proven, but should be) MJ-specific Leer cap (I'm in michigan and have access to my MJ trailer, not a whole MJ) but I get 44" from top of frame to where the top of the cab would be.

well, I can't say that it didn't have any positive effect, but the extra grille opening hasn't made enough effect to keep the temperature needle from inching to the right (on long inclines, temps in the upper 80s, and at 70mph). Oh well. Totally worth the effort though sicne I love the look. Hopefully later this week I'll find the time to repair the grille and paint it black. I'll leave the hood painting for later.

eek! you can't possibly be the first to experience that. what does teh company say? what about squishing the plastic tanks a bit before capping them? would that make any difference?

you may have maxed out the ideas until we see the project start to come together. I'm sure you'll get all sorts of thoughts and solutions as dilemmas arise. although I've been thinking about it, and I think you should either simply remove the rear window or cut the entire back wall away. I just can't see any benefit to a half-way approach.

as I stated... opinions on shocks vary wildly and circumstances and preferences are strong influencers that cannot necessarily be replicated.

there's a huge reason I jumped on my new 88. the unmolested originality of it all. First MJ I've had that wasn't hacked in some way by previous owners. Even my original baby, acquired when it was just 10 years old, already had a hacked up wire harness and cooling system.

an 87-90 full cluster will go right in. swap out the temp and oil pressure switches for sending units and go. should be a link to a writeup in the link in my signature. also should be a link to modding the odometer on the new cluster if you want the mileage to match.

It was originally built and titled in colorado (by a previous owner) and I can only say that it falls in the "weight/fee category" of 500#. I've got no idea if that means it weighs as much or is "rated" to carry that much.

upgrade time! slightly better shocks, slightly better (and bigger!) tires, an actual dedicated spare tire, slightly better wheels, and a slightly less better rear bumper (this one is a bit messed up and has bedliner all over it so I removed my perfect one for use on the new 88's restoration).
