and? not the first time the airlines have suffered yet we still have planes flying. I never said that there isn't a struggle coming. I said that it's not the end of the world. sorry, but I don't have your level of pessimism. now if you'll all excuse me, I'm going to have a couple beers, play some vid games for a while and then maybe watch Frozen 2. "beyond repair"? "starving to death"? good use of Hyperbole. but doesn't make it true. even through the great Depression people got food. Americans are kind and Americans are innovative. We'll see this through. My father had his columbarium meeting with church council via one of the vid chat programs. it was hard for him to figure out but ya gotta do what ya gotta do. in the end it was a productive meeting and he even learned a thing about technology. Tomorrow's service will be via internet too. I keep hearing from friends that either they are making more money than before, or enjoying being able to work from home in their PJs, or they are super enthused that they have some time to hang with their kids. Not everyone is that happy of course, but even the self-employed ones are finding ways to make ends meet.

but enough of the negatives. how about some positives? what has made you smile lately? I heard that a few of Michigan's breweries have switched over to producing hand sanitizer and at least one is donating everything to like the red cross or something. and several local manufacturing companies have started production of ventilator parts. god knows the toilet paper plants have tried hard to step it up.

It is the hands of the citizens and it would appear that a huge chunk of them are currently being reckless and endangering a lot of other peoples' lives. now what do you do? nothing? do we just give up and sacrifice the predicted 2% of americans? This is a war we are fighting and the government and the people and the market all need to chip in. It's a group effort. Only the big G has the money to throw around, only the people can do their part, and only the companies can move fast enough to try and keep up with demand.

that assumes that the stock market wouldn't have also crashed after the entire country was sick and 8 million people died. not to mention the world's economy after another 150 million died and other countries closed their borders and shut down trade. There may have been nothing that could have prevented a drastic downturn.

humans are panicky idiots. And it appears that the more the government tries to tell them to knock it off, the more panicky they become. Happens with every hurricane and snowstorm. Heck, the mere threat of ice causes the stores in Atlanta to sell out and the worst snowstorm in the last decade down there was 5 whole inches and the snow disappeared within 4 days. Most snowfalls are gone without a trace within 24 hrs. Do they really not have food to last another 24 hrs? There's a reason why northerners laugh at them. I'm curious as to how you guys would differently combat this pandemic if you were in charge. How would you keep the population safe?

I don't see what it is that we're "giving up". these have all been laws that were already on the books. I've seen nothing new. Just because it's the first time you've personally experienced it doesn't mean it's unprecedented. ask those that lived through Hurricanes or huge snowstorms. get-the-heck-off-the-street declarations are not new and none have ever become permanent. I fear nothing from this except my father, sister and grandmother contracting it as they are all in that very-likely-to-die category. calm down, take the CDC's recommendations seriously and stop overthinking it. we can all riot later if I'm proven wrong.

because the simplest explanation is frequently the right one, I fall back on a couple truths before I go too far down any rabbit holes. 1- most people are panicky idiots 2- people in power are not immune to being in that group faced with a pandemic that has the appearance of being worse (or at least different) than any that the current batch of living humans remembers, you can easily get what is transpiring. knowledge is the only thing that can combat this and we're coming up a little short on a full understanding of the virus, how widespread it is, or what the long term damage will be. we only know that it appears to be quite deadly to a certain group of humans. Far as I can tell the goal is to slow it down as much as possible so that the knowledge can catch up and to not overwhelm the healthcare system. I haven't seen anything that doesn't already happen for other disaster scenarios like hurricanes. It's just more widespread. The country and the world will survive this and later on there will be plenty of time for blame to be passed around to the individuals (be them foreign or domestic) that have either proven their incompetency or tried to advance their personal gain (be it money or power) from this calamity.

michigan isn't testing unless you have definite symptoms. apparently we're still trying to ramp up the availability of testing and so are limiting it to those who really need to know asap.

all of the amendments have some limitations (can't yell "fire" in a theater), but there's no doubt that this will end up in the courts afterwards. My guess is the current situation will be filed under emergency powers such as when a hurricane rolls through. ok, a "spring break" mentality makes sense to me. I'm in suburbia and it's cold and rainy outside. not a whole lot of party-time opportunities 'round here.

honestly I'm still confused as to where people are going that this would stop. most everything is closed around me. basically I could go get fast food (drivethough only), grab essentials from a store, or check in on family. Certainly he's not shutting down the critical business things.

it also helps to know the vehicle's weak spots too. rockers, doors, frames, bedsides are the MJs. other cars have differeing locations that you want to wash and protect super well.

I use a 50% mix of washing and accepting that anything I use as a winter ride is essentially sacrificial (salt, the potholes, and the horrible drivers are all vying to wreck my ride). Basically nothing I truly care about sees the snow. Just with washing I've seen all of my various rides push past 200k miles with only minor rust compared to others I see.
