  1. Depends on if the one I want is available. I'll post up something after he calls me about the hats. Either way they will be a simple thin foam cozie with the club logo on it.
  2. With parts from a donor ig, the 2.8L will bolt in place of the 2.5L so it theoretically could been swapped in.
  3. To use an XJ axle you have to weld on new perches either way.
  4. To install a late model AX-15 into an ex-peugeot truck you would need a pilot bushing from a 70s era CJ. My guess (and this is only a guess) is that the nv3550 would need the same. It's a $2 part (which is important because there were a couple options and the other one was like $10).
  5. The green color isn't offered any more. :(
  6. No problem. I'll go buy a lotto ticket... :D
  7. I talked with the guy today and he'll call up the hat company early next week and get back to me with the official current prices. Once I have those I'll start a new post with a breakdown of the costs and start taking orders with who wants what (hats and can cozies) and everyone can start sending over the monies. I figure once I have about half of the total needed, I'll place the order (I can't afford to cover the entire cost myself). Then when they come in I'll re-box 'em and ship them out to everyone.
  8. My aftermarket slider rattled like a son-of-a-gun just driving down the road. I quieted it down by cutting out little rubber wedges and pushing them into the cracks.
  9. This might be a good time to mention that after that incident I disconnected all of the bars on that side except the inside door handle. The door is always unlocked, but the only way to open that side is the inside door handle. I figured that did a couple things for me; I eliminated 3 of the 4 levers on the latch mechanism that could get stuck, and I can never ever again forget to lock that side of the truck. :D
  10. I was in the mechanical engineering program before I switched to industrial engineering. :D It's been a while since I had those classes and hopefully I got those terms right.
  11. My truck has no solid metal in the rockers or pinch seam to work with so I made mine independent of the "body" and worked entirely off the "frame". But the frame is just sheetmetal so I didn't want to simply weld or bolt to the outer surface for fear that the rocker protection would simply bend up into my rockers. So I came up with the idea of pushing the bars completely through the frame and welding to both sides. This way there is very little bending moment on the frame, just sheer forces. It's proven itself very strong I just wish I had done it years ago before shmooshing the rockers on the trails. More photos and details are at http://www.picturetrail.com/petermontie in the "protection" folder.
  12. I had that happen in my 88 once. The problem was the latch mechanism was stuck and no amount of messing with the rods was going to free it. I sprayed the latch as best I could with lube but eventually had to reach in with my hand and push/pry/pull the levers on the mechanism directly with my fingers. If you wanted to, you could open up the drivers door in order to see what is going on inside. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the doors are mirror images of each other.
  13. Try using the address in the "Direct Link" box
  14. Mine weighs a lot. :D Someday (when it's drivable again) I'll putter over to the scrap yard and see. I'm betting that the official curb weight numbers don't take any gasoline into account.
  15. That's what I've read. Unfortunately, I buried my spare axle under a pile of crap in the garage before I read it so I've not been able to confirm.
  16. Were you in the truck when it was weighed?
  17. Torq steer? I guess I don't understand why that would happen in this situation. As I understand it, if you're not in four wheel drive, then your front axle is just a passenger and not pulling in any particular way. Especially if you get an automatic locker where it's sorta "open" until you apply the gas. Even a posi should have enough slip so as to not inhibit steering.
  18. Optimas are a sealed battery. I'm guessing they shouldn't be hissing. But I seriously doubt an optima can explode. (Of course I've been wrong before.) Are you sure it's the battery making the noise and not something close by like a vacuum line or tire?
  19. More and more I hate living in the land of salt and rust. :(
  20. No one said that we're always successful with the first round of repairs. ;) I snapped off one of the steering box bolts when I wanted to install my custom front bumper and use 2 of the 3. Then I had to drain the box and drop it out of the truck in order to try and remove the broken bits of bolt. A 2 minute job became a 2 day job. In my opinion the best money you can spend on your truck is a factory shop manual. They can be found on ebay.
  21. 87-92 Comanches came with the NP-231 command-trac part-time t-case. In 86 there was a choice of the NP-207 part-time or the NP-229 (I think that's the number) full-time t-cases.
  22. XJ leafs won't work on an MJ and most XJs sit 1" lower than a 4x4 MJ so the coils wouldn't do any good either.
  23. Unlockable hubs are overrated. I would just wait and save that money for a complete aftermarket front axle if that's in your future.
  24. There are 3 different tank size choices. Two for the longbed; 23.5gal and 16 gal, and one for the shortbed; 18 gal. I believe the 16 was eventually phased out.
  25. If my dad's CRD ever gets totalled... :brows:
