  1. It certainly sucks, but it's not unheard of. Rick had a similar issue with his MJ and it's rust-free like yours. Weld it up properly, add a patch over the crack, and then fab yourself a steering box brace that strengthens the entire area. Better than new. :D
  2. I hate the cold, but I love snow. Too bad I live in a part of the country where the winters are cold, but the snow never stays very long. :(
  3. The easiest is to grab an aux fan from an XJ/MJ (make sure the mounting tabs are in good shape) and install it in your truck. Then wire it up (through a relay) to a switch in the cab. How hot is your truck getting?
  4. If your 86 has the larger gas tank, then it won't fit in a shortbed. If your 86 has the smaller tank, then there will likely be some mods needed to hang it as I doubt the straps are in the same spot.
  5. You wouldn't be the first to learn the hard way that 2wd front axle parts are different than 4wd front axle parts. :(
  6. I think the 2.8L has a mechanical pump located on the block.
  7. I haven't had that exact problem yet, but I can tell ya that the wiper stuff isn't under the hood, but inside the cowling area between the hood and the windshield. Could be that the motor has gone bad.
  8. That's the hope at least. I stopped by a gas station yesterday and went in only to find a "restrooms are for employees only" sign. I actually stood patiently in the line at the counter just so I could say that I'm not buying $50 in diesel from them simply because they won't let my use the bathroom (not that the kid behind the counter cared in the least). (It's besides the point that I wasn't there to buy any fuel) :D
  9. Is your computer accepting the appropriate cookies?
  10. Hopefully with the big D out of the picture the remaining big C will be able to pursue some of those rigs that the germans didn't like. :D Here's hopin'.

  12. If the heat improves with higher rpms, then I'd suspect a clogged heater core since the flow pressure increases with rpms. You may get lucky and be able to clean it up by disconnecting the inlet and outlet and then reverse flushing it with a garden hose.
  13. Gears, gears, gears and more gears. :D
  14. The double-tube shaft in my 88 shortened just fine. You can't shorten the rubber isolator end, but you can shorten the other end (t-case end).
  15. These are 235s on a 4wd: And these are 30s on a 2wd:
  16. Are you running stock rims? 235s are just a hair smaller than a 30" tire and I had 30" tires on my 2wd MJ with no rubbing so you should be good. And yes, your rim bolt patter is 5-on-4.5"
  17. Fuel pressure regulators are rarely the problem. If you're burning too much fuel, it could be a host of other items, like a bad o2 sensor, a leaky fuel injector, bad map sensor, etc. I'm not saying it couldn't still be the regulator, I'm just saying that usually it's one of the other things.
  18. You've got it. :D Nice looking truck by the way. :brows:
  19. Does your exhaust smell like gasoline at all?
  20. Your t-case is what shifts you into 2 or 4wd. The Central Axle Disconnect (CAD) in the front axle was Jeep's futile attempt to gain extra mileage by reducing the spinning parts while driving in 2wd (mostly your front driveshaft). But there weren't any tangible gains and so they abandoned it for the reliable non-CAD axles. Another option is swapping in the solid shafts from a later model Jeep and get the bigger 297 U-joints too. U-joint upgrade page
  21. Upgrade your front U-joints. shaft/joint upgrade
  22. You could just shift the collar over in a semi-permanent fashion and never worry about it again. There are a few methods for this, including washers, a hose clamp or flipping the hosing upside down.
  23. But I'm fixing the fact that the pinion isn't symmetrical. :D
  24. I've yet to read of anyone that had a problem from the pumpkin offset. And you may not need spacers depending on your rim and tire combo. But for what it's worth, back when I was contemplating using an 8.8 under my 90 the plan was to buy a single 1.5" or 2" wheel spacer (a full spacer, not just a plate with holes in it) and run it on the passenger side, thus simultaneously moving the pinion closer to center and widening the axle. Then I'd burn the perches on in the appropriate places (although technically I don't own a strong enough welder so I would have bolted everything up nice and snug an then slowly driven down the street to a local shop). Would I have needed to do either of those things? Nope. I just thought it was a clever idea and wanted to see if it would work. But I backed out in favor of just running the Dana 44 I already had in the garage and sticking with the 3.55 gears (I've only got 31s on that truck).
  25. chop or not, that looks sweet. :D If I win the lotto someday...
