Got mine! But now my $20 DVD player won't work. :( Curse this chinese pile o' crap! Hey Rick, is the addy on the envelope your new one?
-
It does sound like not enough caster. How much lift? and what did you do about the lower control arms?

Rodeo Dana 44 Rear Disc Brakes
Pete M replied to jtdesigns's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
A better swap might be the Explorer 8.8. 95-01 has disks and it's the right Jeep rim pattern, 3.55/3.73/4.10 ratios available, and very close to the right width. -
Long bed tank in short bed truck?

As to searching through the archives, make sure you click on the box that says to search for all of the search words. -
Are you looking for an eye-popping red? Or a more subtle red?

Rodeo Dana 44 Rear Disc Brakes

What are you doing about the different wheel bolt pattern? Upgrading the frontend too? -
It's a 6 on 5.5 wheel bolt pattern and the same width as the Grand Waggy front axle. A normal Dana 44 U-joint flange can be used with it to eliminate the funky flange.

He is sooooooooo lucky that didn't give up 8 seconds later. :brows:

Are you talking about a 3 link with the triangulated upper arm? or a 3 link with radius arms and a track bar?
-
Yeah, I've had plenty of people politely inform me about how poor my decision was. Doesn't matter what anyone says about their apparent "limitations", I love 'em and they've never been the limiting factor. Ever. Maybe I'm just not hardcore enough to have found the deficiencies. :dunno: :D

1.... 2.... 3! Three! Three links! ah, ah, ah ahhh. (Insert the voice from The Count from Sesame Street) Oh wait, not this particular 3 link? :D

Rich cylinder causing blow by?
Pete M replied to skimore11's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I've got a gallon jug collection the oil that comes out the top of mine. This is obviously not acceptable if you have vehicular inspections. Oh, and whatever you do, don't dump that oil back into the engine. The stuff collecting in my jug is about the nastiest oil I've ever seen. -
PCV filter? You mean the little tiny things? Or a bigger valve cover filter (like 3" across)?

I tend to shy away from FAQ pages since I prefer that people ask questions. But the DIY idea is intriguing. Got a link to the other forum's DIY page so I can see what you mean?

Class 3 tow prep related stuff (except 86 which topped out at class 2) It's not necessarily a list of exactly what you get when you check the box because some of it is simply "also required". 86: 2.8L axle ratio: 4.10 (no mention of axle though) Automatic Transmission Heavy duty cooling Heavy duty Battery Power steering P205 tires or larger 87 and 88: Heavy duty rear axle 4.0L Automatic Transmission Heavy duty cooling Heavy duty Battery Power steering P205 tires or larger Full size spare 89: Heavy duty rear axle 4.0L Automatic Transmission Heavy duty cooling Electric aux fan Transmission oil cooler Heavy duty Battery Power steering P205 tires or larger Full size spare 90: Can't find the brochure. I'm assuming it's the same as 89 since the vehicle didn't really change 91: Only mention is "See your dealer for info about ordering your vehicle equipped in preparation for dealer installed trailer towing packages." (probably where I was getting the info in the back of my head since I've had this brochure the longest). 92: I only have the mini-brochure, but I'm assuming it's the same as 91
-
You are right, I really should know better. I've been going through my brochures again and I gotta tell you my memory really does suck (ever since I was sick, but that's a story for another day). I've been going on my memory telling me that the hitch is installed at the dealership. While I was right about that, I'm finding that there was a prep package available in at least the early years. I'll fill in the details once I go through all of the brochures.
-
I recently found evidence that the Dana 44 was available in 87 with the Off Road package, but there was never a "Tow Package" offered in any year and the heavy-duty rear axle disappears from all subsequent brochures 88-92. Hitches were installed at the dealership.

Rain and puddles are only 2 of the causes to under-carpet moisture. There's also A/C dripping and heater core leakage.
-
Holy cow!!! I was digging around and found my 87 dealership brochure (somehow got separate from the rest of them) and the offroad package in 87 mentions it came with the "heavy-duty rear axle"! This disappears in all subsequent brochures. Feelin' better Eagle? :D The metric tonne package is still "longbed models only".
-
You might need to upgrade your alt then. I've got a 170 amp unit (you won't need that much) and the engine doesn't do anything when I kick on both of my electric fans at the same time. If you've got an old 60 amp unit, then you might be straining it.

Help with tranny Mount postition?
Pete M replied to MiNi Beast's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
So if I see it right in the pic, the trans mount to tranny bolts are close, but don't quite line up? Have you tried bolting the mount and crossmember to the trans first and then finagling it to the frame? -
I would hesitate before adding all that weight to a rig with only 33s. Plus ground clearance would suck. I say build the 30 and 44. :D
-
All of my literature says that it was a LWB-only thing. But since all the parts just bolt right in to a SWB, someone could easily have swapped it over.
-
AFAIK they didn't. But the later model t-case had a sealed rear output with the splines just hanging out in the air instead of being housed inside the aluminum housing. Maybe the t-case you saw had a flange conversion.
