Muhwahaahaha , :D , that's very scary. Happy Halloween !

I've been thinking more along these lines. Oh sure, someday a 5.0L stroker would be nice with mabye a turbo or supercharger 8) . But I would like to see what could be done with a little more stock platform first. Some head work and bolt on's to get more air/fuel flowing through the pump.Just between cam, rockers , and valves there's alot that could be done.

More on the 8.8 , another important difference between the axles mentioned would be ring gear size, the Ford being the largest. The 8.8 was available in Rangers,Explorers,Mountaineers, and F150's among others. The 95+ Explorers axles had 31 spline axle shafts, disc brakes, many came w/4.10's and LS,.250 wall-3.25 Dia. axle tubes. They were also sprung under but I,m not sure about perch width/angle. RuffStuff is another good resource for builder parts. With C4C,the yards have lots of inventory to choose from.

X2, it won't rust either. Clean the area as well as you can,no water,w/wire brush, shop vac, spray some prime, give a day two. Then, start laying down layers of fiberglass cloth and resin. You can sandwich nylon rope pieces between layers to provide reinforcement, just make sure to use a disposable brush and mini roller to work the resin in and air bubles out.

Man, where to start, haha. Anything can be fixed, are you ready? You have come to the right place , though and there are lot's of peaple that can help. Mabye first try to stabilize the rust, how are you at bodywork and welding sheetmetal? I like the truck though, my next MJ will be a LB/auto/4x4.

What are 97+ mirrors going for in your area?

Look what mfpdm did to my Comanche Chief

Your truck look's amazing, good job. What color is that? I can't remember so I'll ask, what makes up the Chief package? I have a red 87' Sport truck w/black interior so this is some inspiration. -
A set of Ginsu's , haha. Welcome, that has to be one of the better looking 86's that I've seen, very nice.

Hey Gary, welcome. Looks like a nice clean truck to build on. Do you ever get around to the Pic-a-Part yards in your area? Wondering if you see many MJ's around.

As a former member of a Marine Engineer Supt. Batt. I can tell you the Marine's deff. have position's for Engineer's, Combat Engineer Unit's. Recruiter's of any stripe are natoriuos, I think they go on to become used car salesmen. This one was deffinatley UNSAT. Just go to another station or go online , request a meeting with an officer in an Engineer Unit. I'm sure someone would be glad to talk to your buddy ......... Semper Fi

Did you guy's use 95' Explorer axles? What kind of prices are peaple finding 8.8's for? Interested in more info on this swap as well.

I keep forgetting the length of the stock shock, but it would be as simple as taking one off and measuring the compressed and extended length's. I think it's about 7" of travel ? Besides the application specific shocks,Bilstein has shocks listed by length, 6-14 inch's of travel IIRC, as well as several different choices of valving, with or without a resavoir, bolt top, bushing,or heim end. They will probably do custom orders to. The 7100 is a great shock and I would totaly recomend it, night and day over anything stock.

Nice job, be sure to let us know how these are holding up.I,d like to know how these do after a winter's use.

It rides awesome compared to when it was 4.5" w/no control arm drops. No AMC4x4 is a used parts junkyard that deals only in jeeps. I have a personal friend that works there and get me really good deals on everything i need. No they are not a dealer of glassworks, my buddy used to have a connection to the dealer but he no longer does @ the moment...only the excess stuff he has laying around Drop Brackets are definately the way to go w/short arms, ahh long arms. I never see Glassworks for sale, oh well.

Very nice. I did not know Ace had all that. Hmmm, I've been wanting to make some swaybar end links.. -
Does anyone have pictures of the dummy shaft and how it mounts?
-
I've heard you can retrofit a unit bearing hub to a one peice knuckle.I was'nt aware they were on 86' 2WD's.I was wondering if the unit bearing would be stronger?
-
There were different sizes of OEM swaybars for the XJ/MJ as well, so this may explain the various results of the swap. I wonder what the diameter of the 5.9 swaybar is?
